The winners of the Push N8 competition have been announced!
Our Push KAPing video and the Push N8 project were featured in previous issues of Kitelife, so we wanted to keep you in the loop with what’s happening now!
After a demanding three weeks of deliberation, the Push N8 judges selected the top eight ideas from hundreds of submissions. It was an extremely difficult competition to judge because the quality and ingenuity of the entries were top notch.
Now, four teams for each prototype, Push Skating and Push KAPing, will be test-driving the prototypes and the Nokia N8, bringing their creations to life.
Over the coming weeks we’ll be following the teams in their amazing endeavours. We’ve updated the Push N8 website with team profiles, introduced the teams on the Push N8 blog and will be posting regular updates from the teams themselves.

[twocol_one]Humpback Whale Migration
Tom Benedict has been doing land-based KAPing in the Hawaiian Islands for years, and just recently he’s taken it to the seas. His teammates include whale researcher Doug Perrine and two boat captains, and together they will use the Push KAPing prototype to produce a short film from an amazing new perspective of the humpback whale migration through the Hawaiian Islands. This project is building on field research being done by the Hawaii Whale Research Foundation, which some of the team members are involved with.

Freelance photographer David Clifford will use the Push KAPing prototype to get fresh perspectives and “sick footage” of his team rock climbing to the top of Castleton Tower and then base jumping off. The iconic tower rises 400 feet from a ridge on the northern border of Castle Valley, Utah, and is renown for its exceptional rock climbing routes. Collaborating with David on this incredible project is photographer and BASE jumper Chris Hunter, alongside BASE jumpers Steph Davis and Mario Richards.

Computational artist and Etsy.com co-founder Jared Tarbell is taking the KAPing prototype to the skies above the Bisti Badlands to capture the mind-bending desert landscapes of the American southwest. With the image data collected he will write computer algorithms that search for signs of ancient archeological structures buried in the sands of time, and create a map to guide further exploration in the Bisti Wildernes Study Area of New Mexico.

Everyone has noticed the face in the plug socket, right? Stephen Agnew wants to invite our imaginations on an exploratory journey through the city. He’ll gather footage above the rooftops with the Push KAPing prototype, and then animate the natural shapes and patterns to reveal the cuddly monsters, strange faces, and giants in our midst. You’ll never look out your window or across your garden in the same way again.
