  1. Hello everyone! My name is Joel and I'm from the Pearl of the orient sea, Philippines! I'm droppin this quick inquiry since I am a newbie and will be ordering my first kite. It will be the Prism Quantum. I have chosen this as I've heard it's a good starting kite and since I am on budget. I will definetly love to hear from you guys who happened to play with this kite. In addition, any other kites and brand that you can recommend for a kite that's around $100. Thanks much! Soaring high, Joel

  2. Update I guess she was in a bad mood yesterday because today went well. Yachats will have a fun fly sponsored by the Adobe on the Adobe grounds on Labor Day weekend and on the weekend of the 28th and 29th, Yachats will host The Yachats Kite Festival 2012. I will be involved with both events, and I am very happy to say that it sounds like I will get plenty of help this year! So... Mark your calendars! P.S. Thanks for the reply's! Many of my concerns were voiced and validated, the confidence boost was nice. Katrina, that was what I was thinking too, thanks for writing it out for me lol. I am pretty sure that info was a big factor in not trying to get a big production going on for Labor Day and until we have a large enough space for it. I hope I didn't sound like some crazy person but I really feel personaly tied to this event and I thought it was getting pulled out from under me for a less awesome event, all I wanted was for the best possible festival and a good fun fly and I think that's what we are going to get. P.P.S. see you all at Lincoln City! Wyatt

  3. Hi RNG. Good to meet you. If by any chance, you happen to be the Dallas area, please let me know, so we can get together and fly for a while, toss down a few beers, and talk kites and other great things. Take care and have fun. Thanks. Stogiez Pssst--yes--I know. What I don't know is my number.

  4. A rosier scenario, here's hoping it's fact rather than fiction: Some people on the CoC either came to your festival last year, or heard all about it from people who did, and now they're really excited about kites. You didn't get a response out of them last year, but sometimes you just have to SHOW people what kites and kite festivals are all about. Now that they've seen it, they are into it, and they want to support it. They aren't kite fliers...YET. They will need your help to make this happen, but they may not know it yet. They've already blown it in how they approached you, but here's hoping your meeting today goes better. As for the site, I actually did fly a kite on that very spot last year. I just remember it being small, looks like about 100x220 at best looking at google maps. If the wind were out of the west, it'd be nice and clean, but with only 100 feet of width in that direction, not so good. Suttons usually have 100 foot tails. Seems like it'd be hard to get big stuff spread out enough in such a small area--lack of air space and anchor space. Revs would be on 80 ft lines, being careful not to walk backwards too far and fall of the cliff. And the adoring public has to have somewhere to stand. And what if they want to fly kites too? Which of course they will. Seems like this site would work for a family fun fly, but nothing much more extravagant. Have you been out there yourself? Alternate site at the adobe, all I remember is some nice stretches of lawn there, but tall trees around it, and in it too, right?

  5. Definitely the Hypno over the Quantum... you get a better kite, plus the Prism video with the Hypno. Some people have even upgraded the spars and installed yoyo stoppers in the Hypno to make it perform close to a high-end kite. You will fly the Hypno for longer without getting bored by it. I have both, but if I had to choose one, it would be a simple choice...

  6. I hear ya. I feel like I've abandoned my post or something. Im headed off to beautiful San Diego on the 11th on holiday for 5 days! The banter has lightened as I struggle to tie up loose ends at 2 of my 3 jobs so I can just go and not worry about work. Plus, saving my last clever little bit of banter on this kite till the end

  7. Joel, before you buy do more research. I bought the Quantum and I am happy with it, but it is "heavy". Look into the hypnotist. It may be one more step up but still built for the beginner. The hypnotist doesn't get as much talk because it is higher in price, but it has yoyo stoppers and you will get more "play" out of it. There are so many kites out there that you have a huge selection to choose from and so many choices when you are ready to move up as well.

  8. To follow up, I solicited some opinions from the GWTW forums (not that the opinions over here weren't great), and discovered the Bargain board over there. Steve had a FW SF 2.3 UL Pro up for a great price, and I took it. I'm really excited about trying it out! I think I was hesitant about ULs -- perhaps a little about the lawn-darting issue (though I think those days are mostly past me), but probably more about the wind range. I do hit up the beach a few times a year, but I think this UL will suit the winds I get in my neck of the woods, and hopefully result in more flying time. And I've learned that there are a lot of good, tricky standards out there that don't cost a whole lot (it looks like the GWTW swap meet is hot with discounted used ones, too), so I can always add one to my bag later.
