  2. Here's an exercise to try - put the kite LE down and your hands in a normal position. Try pushing your thumbs gently towards the kite, if it doesn't come off the ground - step back too, but just a step. Try to hold it steady. That means slow easy movements, nothing radical. If you feel like it's lost, step forward and take all the power out. Try again!

  10. 'Breath' and 'Give it to the kite'. That's 2 wisdoms from Wayne that I have yet mastered (I'm still too nervous to get on the lines lol). Take one or two steps forward and throw your hands out when you're about to crash.

  12. So while on vacation last week I had the opportunity to pass the addiction and joy of kiting to my brother in law. He's a Marine and is leaving on deployment next month. We flew almost every night on the beach and you could tell he was waiting for that time everyday! We flew my synapse 200 for him so start and by the end of the week he was having the thrill of being pulled down the beach with my hornet. I'd like to get him something to make his time a little more enjoyable over seas. Money is a little tight and would like to get him a smaller foil. I'm by no means begging just looking for everyone's input. It's awesome to pass this exciting passion on to someone else! Thanks and look forward to hearing back Sent from my iPhone using KiteLife mobile app

  14. Too many thoughts and not enough words .... One thing that I am thankful for is that I have in my possession kite that he insisted I take back home with me on my last trip out there. Even here, words fail me...

  15. Feels different? DUH!! It is different! But remember this: the only thing the kite understands is that the long LE means forward - period! Up, down, sideways - the LE is forward in all your commands. Doesn't matter if you stand on your head - that big LE is forward! Learn to keep your hands quieter as you give commands.

  16. My issue keeping me ground... ME! It is definitely not the kite. So I have the basic hover, up/down and left/right. I can reverse fly the kite and land. And I can launch from both orientations. AND... I can manage my lines! I just haven't mastered the nose down orientation. I either panic and drive the kite into the ground or I actually get it stopped and then drive it into the ground. What's happening is this... When the kite stops and then starts to rise, I over control the kite to stop the motion up and end up driving it into the ground. Just lacking practice... I also noticed that when I rotate the kite to a nose down orientation, I actually rotate my hands with the kite. Yeah! Anyway, its really hard to apply the brakes when your hands are rotated. So to combat that, I try to keep my elbows in my side or gut. Its odd....never did that with my 2 line kites. Note the orientation of my hands in the photo... bad form!

  17. Now now, I know you're too good with the ability to spell and rarely make a typographical error! And I know you're not talking about applying more cleaning, flowing or purifying agent to metal during soldering. Is there a bitter taste going on? A sour note? No, Really, It was an honest mistake!

  19. Club 38? instead of joining it attend one good festival and get all the quad-lined exposure to everything you could ever want, latest equipment, mods, techniques, folks to provide hands-on instruction, seeing some of the best strut their stuff to music AND you'll make some friends besides, which is truly priceless!

  20. 200# line is good for a Power Sled 24 in light wind... under 10mph... but I would never fly either my UltraFoil 15 or Power Sled 24 on less than 300# line in winds 10mph or more. You might be thinking X number of pounds of static pull, but you have to take in to account the... I don't know what you;d call it, jerk strength.... the momentary jerk that uneven winds exert on a kite and it's line. That's what broke the 300# line with my Power Foil 24, was a gust, I guess. Who knows, it was a result of an approaching front that grew out of control before we realized what was on top of us. Yeah, my mind was blown that 300# line failed. The kite was lost for good, I sprinted after it, and probably covered over 1/2 mile before I gave up on it. I had to do without my trusty lifter for a few months, but my family replaced it for my next birthday, so it's now just a distant memory. I wonder who found the lost kite... I wonder if they knew what to do with it... It would be funny to see it in the air someday. Like I said, I was lucky, I had my GoPro up there with the kite at the time, the line broke above the camera, and the camera fell straight down, at least 100 feet into the sand. Got the camera back, and still works to this day. But... I always use too strong a line for any kite in whatever the wind is.
