  1. Hello, i just can't stand not showing you this video footage. In France kite seem to be so forgotten because of electric assisted multirotor toy... nevermind... a local TV gave us a chance to show our sport hobby. But the wind was not here and my B-Zen was the only one kite that can be flown [emoji3] i really like this kite [emoji12] Thierry Bressure

  2. Two days drying time now and all is well, its been folded, bagged, and set up again with no new issues. I'm not using armor-all btw tried that and it didn't work much. Tire shine product has dried pretty well now and I can barely detect if it's greasy or not by feel. In other words, I'm not sure if it has an oily residue or not. 303 is good to know about but I'm not familiar with it. I might have tried it if I hadn't already used Tire shine. The kite still has a slight odor to it, the tire shine when you first apply it is quite strong but dissipates after a few days. I think perhaps more time will also help. I may give it a rinse with water after about a week or so and see what the effects are. We went to the field today to fly but there was absolutely no wind so we packed up and headed back home. West Marine has 303 but its 22 dollars a bottle. We go by there on our way to the flying field, {my boy and I} Thanks for the recommend, Maybe I'll pick up a bottle for the car. I never would have known, looks like good stuff.

  4. So would it be considered bad if I asked to be removed from this? I think I may be getting one as a gift and I just want someone to get it that doesn't have one. Not sure if I am for sure getting one but I'm pretty sure Sent from my iPhone using KiteLife mobile app

  6. Aye, sounds like you were introducing yourself and had a windgasm part way through - very endearing. lol

  7. I've noticed among those I have taught and others who are just starting out that once they learn to turn it's over. They no longer will practice the very basic moves that underlie everything else that can be done with a Rev. Get into a routine of repeating everything you know how to do up to this time out on the field. Going straight, turning, hovering, etc. Do it very, very slowly (kite speed) in every position and in every direction. Do it at least five times, preferably ten. You don't have to do your reps back to back, but do the entire set of moves you know before moving on to just flying around or trying something new. Make the moves you know and the transitions between them clean and crisp as possible. Trust me, this will help immensely with anything new you try to do, and it functions as a "warm-up" exercise which will get you used to that day's wind conditions. Practice STOPPING the kite in all directions in all positions, by hitting the brakes and giving slack simultaneously. Then, to get going again, give it slack and then pop your hands toward you and give it forward drive at the same time. This is known as "whump". The kite should go to full speed from standing still without the slow acceleration in between. Think of it as the opposite of a dive-stop. It will make all your moves much crisper. Watch JB fly (not the tutorials, but other videos) and you will see he does this with nearly every move, even if turning or backing up. I only mention it at this point because it is easier to incorporate early in the learning curve; it's much harder to undo what you've been doing all along and add it to your repertoire. Sorry for getting a bit long-winded here, but it's so much easier to do now as opposed to unlearning things later.

  17. I went for my usual Thursday after work flight. Wind was at the upper limits for my non vented Rev 1.5 but I was still able to work on my basic skills. Wind eventually got a little too strong so I switched to a two line kite. Dr.Zenttl, like myself a quad newcomer showed up as the wind was easing off a bit. I but away the two line kite and set up my Rev and we compared our skill level. We also tried each others kites. The Dr. has a non vented B series..Both kites fly well but have a slightly different fèel. I think my 1.5 is]a little dartyer than the B series. The B series flys smoother and iseasier to fly backwards. To to the evening office we got to see a gorgeous sunset. Sent from my SM-G920W8 using KiteLife mobile app

  19. I just couldn't resist. Some of you may recall the talk about the crease marks from folding the freiiein Vertigo? Well someone gave me an idea about how to solve the problem by spraying some armor all on it, I tried a little but it didn't do much so I started looking around and found some tire shine I'd bought for my tires from wallyworld and decided that was the answer. I wiped some on and poof the stress marks were gone, mostly that is, the fold lines are still visible but at least the stress marks radiating out from them have all but disappeared. The kite now has a bonus shine to it like waxed fruit. gave it a more translucent appearance too. I am not recommending anyone else try this, if you do it's at your own risk, I don't mind taking a chance- it won't dent my wallet if it doesn't work out. Find out what it looks like in a week or two after it dries and ages more. Wish me luck anyone?

  20. Agreed. Much easier to learn the HA at the edge of the window in anything other than minimal winds. Your reactions need to be razor sharp if you are going to succeed in the centre of the window. Do it at the edge and everything slows down and yo have time to break the moves down into their individual components. You won't need to give as much slack either.

  21. Try moving it out farther for more control - less speed. You may have to add a step back into your launch routine, but the extra control, once flying is well worth it! John's leaders are even longer!! Try out farther as it helps "square up" the sail to the wind, making it more efficient. Think having a ball in the center of the sail. As you move around, try to think about not dropping it! Differences? Slightly different profile, more bow to the LE, deeper sail at the "V", panel layout designed for controlled stretch, etc. Sometime lay one over the other to compare. Not huge differences, but refinements to the design!

  22. Lack of proper leaders made it feel "brake heavy"? How so? The stock 1.5 leaders have no adjustments (just a single knot at the end of the leader), the "B" has at least a couple. From the comment above, the "B" - "felt like a rocket" and the other "super brake heavy"? Not making sense to me! What exactly does Daougie have? Confused here! The term "brake" is the differential between the top and bottom line hookup points. That is why leader sets have a long top leader and a short bottom leader. The difference in the line attachments on the leaders represents the amount of "brake". The bigger the difference - the more "brake". Most of us that use more brake are at 5-8" of difference between the two attachment points. That is why I am confused by the above statement. An SLE or EXP has NO difference in the leaders and a "B" does, with a couple knots. By adjusting knots, the "B" should be the one that feels brake heavy. Unless you have the leaders upside down/reversed? Will be at a festival this weekend, so may not see any answers or return any comments til Monday, unless I get wifi and can use my laptop.

  23. Hey, it was a pleasure meeting you and trying out your Rev. I still think the lack of a proper set of adjustable leaders makes your Rev feel super brake heavy. Mine felt like a rocket in comparison, and I'm probably going to adjust them for a slightly more brake heavy setting. After flying your rev, I finally managed to get that left facing hover on mine. Though it still shot off into space when I tried to flip from right to left.

  26. Thunder and lightning are nothing to play with - best to call it a day if that is in the sky! Weight when wet? Really depends on winds more than anything. If you were struggling to fly before the rain, then certainly a heavier sail will be really hard to fly. May have to use a different sail (going from vented to standard). Just be aware of this though - a wet sail may stretch more than a dry sail. Will it return to original shape? - depends on the fabric used. Sprinkles usually aren't too difficult, it's the full on rain that gets tiring. YMMV

  28. This makes tonnes of sense! My newbie-hood is showing, but is there a good way to get out after the first "flare" without crashing? I'm going to try a few and see what happens, I think I've always tried to combine it with the other hand inputs and wound up fluttering like a leaf to the ground. I bet this comes into things for me too. I definitely throw the lower hand forward, probably too much. Gah hope I can get some flying in today or tomorrow! Thanks both of you, It is great to hear multiple people try and describe these inputs!! Also, those tutorial videos are excellent. I just found this video which, though not a tutorial, was the first time I realized you could half-axle at the edge of the window! I'm still not super confidant in the middle of the window so I'll have to try this out.

  33. Try a punch turn to quickly change direction 180*. I think I may do a combo turn, but it's more punch heavy. Punch, step forward (lunge), and use the other hand for steering input into the landing. It's all very fast and difficult to dissect. But I think that's how I do that one. When a light kite is stuck on it's back, try pushing forward on both lines, then pull it back out of the turtle. I remember that bugging me about the Shadow, too. The Fade is easier in lighter wind, and more dangerous to the kite in higher winds. If you lose the Fade in higher winds with the nose pointed down, it's only a split second before it turns into a high speed land dart. Lazies can be done without much risk in any wind, but look better in lower wind. I like them to go around slow & graceful, it just looks better to me. Fast yank & spank flying kinda looks like the kite is out of control... Hopefully some of this may be helpful, I enjoyed reading your blog. I would be lucky to fly with someone who has the same enthusiasm as you do, it's nice to talk with someone who speaks the same language... at least I can read about it.

  34. Well, there's no chocolate sauce but the bunjis, end caps and bridle are now on the banana quad line. Tomorrow, if the weather cooperates, it will have its inaugural flight. If it flies, there will be photos. If it doesn't, it's back to the drawing board. Wish me luck.

  39. Finally managed to get the new Rev out for it's maiden flight (there was a no-wind-blowing attempt a few days ago) over the weekend. Simply amazing but what a learning cliff this kite is. I managed to do a bunch of beginner stuff with only minimal crashing. A guy flying a gigantic sled kite gave me some excellent pointers, and that made all the difference too. I can't wait to get out there again.

  45. Thank you so much John . I recently retired and moved from Long Island to Las Vegas . I finally have time to pursue my hobbies . One of them of course is Kites . As a kid when diamond shaped paper kites was all that available , and we knotted strips of old clothe together to make a tail . Those were the days [emoji15]. During my adult years I've shared kite flying with my kids . It was So much fun . Now I'm going to take it up a few notches and fly stunt kites ! I just purchased a Prism Jazz . Once I practice and get good at it . I plan to advance up to a bigger one . I'm happy to be a member . Thank you so much ! Sent from my iPhone using KiteLife mobile app

  47. Hi, Dauogie, and welcome to the forum. Hope to fly with you someday. I mostly fly Revs and other quad-lines most of the time, but have flown duals and singles also. It's good to have you on board.

  48. Thanks for the automated welcome message John. Now I know how you can do so much stuff and fly so well, you have robot clones! I’m just getting back into kites after many years away. I am currently flying mostly old kites that I have, like a Rainbow 6 pack, single rainbow, Vertical visuals Roler with line laundry and I have a delta or two. I am just getting into 4 line kites and have a non vented Rev 1.5. I also have a 2 line XL-80 stunt kite.
