  1. iQuad's retirement met much the same response from Rev, not so much as a casual tip of the hat. I'd like to think I've been kind and deferred sufficiently to Revolution during this transition, I've certainly tried to be conscious about it while still taking care of my own needs. All good, whatever. Fly kites, share fun, inspire and be inspired, the best kites sell themselves.

  8. Good idea to make sure you don't get chased off. I flew at a location several times a year until the one day that a particular security officer decided I was a danger to others.... Well, it was a mall parking lot. SHBKF

  9. Sounds like my session with my Zephyr today. While difficult conditions to fly in they pay dividends when the smooth winds come. If you can hold a fade in those conditions you can do it one handed at the beach. Sometimes keeping it in the air is the exercise of the day. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  10. I totally get that... wanting to get every kite that you put your eyes on. I bought about 1 kite per month for years. There isn't really anyone else around me who flies seriously, so if I wanted to try a particular kite, I had to buy it. That has left me with a number of kites that I don't fly, that have only been flown 2 or 3 times, even after selling off a couple of bags full. What I'm left with is a bunch of kites that aren't worth my time to sell & ship... mostly beginner/intermediate kites that didn't really measure up to their marketing hype. I'm hoping that they'll be good to hand out to kids at the beach, to be used & trashed as learning tools.

  11. My thoughts on bags are this: I can buy a $100 Prism kite, and the bag is amazing. I can buy a $350 Rev, and it's a shitty, poorly sewn sleeve. I'd rather pay a few bucks extra for a nice bag.

  13. As I've gotten better I can do more tricks on the Hypnotist, but I've progressed more and quicker on other kites. I bought a Premier Widow for a budget upgrade and I am finding it much more trickable that the hypno is on it's best day (for me). I had it made into a UL, but I'm sure there are other kites just as good. Since you're in Tacoma you are in much closer proximity to great fliers out there than I am here in the midwest. If you can meet up with them and fly OPK (other peoples kites) to try them out, maybe you'll come across something that clicks with you. I listened and looked a long time before upgrading again to something I was sure I would like better. Also, I finally made myself a couple of other line sets and the difference is huge. Have to have much lighter lines for slack line tricks if you are flying in the lower wind ranges. I didn't know what I was missing until I did that as well. Everyone can disagree with me on these, but I made a 80#/100' set and a 50#/70' set for my UL. The wind makes a huge difference on what line sets I use and it has seemed to pay off. The stock 150#/85' set for the hypnotist is really limiting because it's a heavy kite, but I have found I can get more out of it when I change my line sets.

  14. Dear Mr Tubbs... I've been flying dual line since August of 1990, and quads since late the following Spring (1991). Part of the problem, videos from pre-2004 are kind of hard to come by... Tough to get people to send 'em in (on loan) to me, but there are entertainment centers around the country filled with old videos.
