  1. When kites become a business that's more important than the kites made, it kind of loses the point.. Kiting is all about having fun, enjoying the wind and sky and company of others that enjoy as well. There is a HUGE difference in a kite store and a store that sells kites.. If you know more about the kites than the person selling you a kite then you might want to consider the impact of the store you are buying from on the kiting hobby as a whole..

  2. From the album: Exult's Photos

Before leaving for a kiting session I invested 20 minutes time to create a bar handle. The zero budget material (pointless going for some fancier before knowing what you want) I chose to use was a pin of lilac - a very hard material. In fact it is the only type of hard enough pins that last when playing with the German Shepard. In the background you can see a very frequent visitor - a Field Labrador (a more original Labrador type, quick/quick turning, jumps over high fences and with a very strong and constant desire to fetch). It may look innocent, but is the worst constantly-in-to-play "garden assistant" I know. I don't want to know what would happen to a flying kite in its vicinity. Learning to fly by using a handle was surprisingly quick (compared to trick learning). OK a few nose dives, but that was really expected. The handle was a bit too short because I couldn't do any snap stalls and no cart wheels (assuming this a a reason). Hopefully both hands will be strong enough to manage longer handles when doing quick movements. Off the kiting field I've started to use the left hand more and sometimes just wiggle my laptop quickly (or tilting my bag) while waiting in a line e.g. to get some more left hand exercise. A boost in kiting confidence was when the one hand fade launch worked. While cart wheels didn't work, fade launches became the remaining choice when the kite was not in a normal start position.

  3. They would of course have to protect themselves from people breaking their kite over and over. But also do something about true defects and live up to them. Sent from my XT1575 using KiteLife mobile app

  4. I don't feel that the mesh tears were my fault. My Full Vent, yeah... the mesh tears got MUCH worse when I flew it in & out of icy salt water, but the midvent ? No, I treated that kite with care & flew it maybe a quarter the time the FV had in the air. It's the folding of the kite & putting it in the bag that wore it out, even though I was careful with both. I might fly more than the average Joe, but hell, if you dump a few hundred on a kite, I think you might not be the average Joe. I've talked with passerby's on the beach, and their eyes bug if I tell them I spent 75 bucks on a kite...

  5. they dont know (or refuse to acknowledge) the difference. The green trimmed rod debacle comes to mind. They blamed the customers.

  6. Appreciate it but the TL is probably about the only one I don't like the look of. Lol!

  8. I believe that Rev is not looking to sell kites to the 5,000 avid quad flyers in the world who fly twice a week or more. I think when they say a lifetime of fun, it means the 13 BILLION people who don't own one, and would fly it once or twice per year, or fly it once and park it in the garage for the rest of their life. The bungees would have to be replaced several times, if they fly it occasionally, but with a little care the rest should last a lifetime.

  9. Yes, with modifications, it seems that the kites will last much longer. I became grumpy with Rev when the leading edge mesh ripped in my Full Vent (after ~4-5 years in rough conditions) and my MidVent (after only 2-3 years of gentle use). I tried to contact Rev multiple times, with no response. I finally had them repaired by Eliot Schook, and it looks like the two will last for many more years. Single investment for a lifetime of use. NO. If I didn't know people and have Kitelife at my back, I would've had to buy new kites, or give it up.

  10. I have nothing against the kites except they no longer stack well.. That's the same kind of deal breaker for me as the reflex addition to the Revs breaking my catch and throw.. The end result is I don't/won't buy what doesn't work for me.. I don't mind spending extra for what I like but I refuse to pay more for something I like less.. If you fly single kites, the Freilein is great.. If you stack you are either wasting your time or setting yourself up for a lot of tuning. time invested.

  11. Our Vertigos are holding up well, took them out for the first time the other day since-- last fall sometime- I set the kite up for my boy but got confused and put the lines on the back side by mistake and didn't notice for about a half hour or so. It actually flew almost normal, landings were a little rough though. It's been raining cats and dogs here for a long time, I can count the sunny days on one hand since the first of the year. The Walmart tire shine I put on the kite last year to help with the crease marks seems to still be doing its job, no adverse affects yet, at least not from being folded in the kite bag for six months. Can't say the same for my truck tires though they are a little brownish now and in need of a good scrubbing. Come on Sunshine!!

  12. or a maple bacon donut. FWIW and IMO, The Phoenix is a great kite. I'm just not a fan of the Trailing Edge Vents on the full sail. The Ashes return that panel to the more conventional design.. That's the main reason I prefer the Ashes over the Phoenix..

  14. The more I fly the more my kites talk to me. And they have a lot to say. This morning I see the blue chats ribbon in my lower right corner while arriving here via Chrome. Let the tweaking continue. It is kind of neat to be watching & chatting as this switch is made. I went to the old chat box this morning & was admitted. But when I left it said I was kicked out. Kind of like "And don't let the door hit you in the rear on the way out!" Well out the door & on my way to a kite fest for once. So that's one day I won't be a Solo Hill Billie Kite Flailer. SHBKF
