  1. Ignore his request folks, remember to carry it forward when things happen to you. If I didn't want anything broken, the kite shouldn't have been set-up at all or shared with friends. No/low wind means delicate framing and his smile at flight success in these demanding conditions was worth that spar's life! nigel, it is okay, you will fly out of my kite bag anytime until you are not the weakest flier on the field,..... someday you'll be the one helping others w equipment and lessons too.

  4. The blue in the flag is the less dominate color, so what about swapping some of the solid white on the back with solid red.

  5. Hey, miracles happen!, .... vented kites at the 1st Sunday fly. We started as ZenSUL, then full sails& midvents, switched to Shooks 75 & 135%, Polos and full vents, mostly on green race thruout the day. Easy lessons with the sail filled with energy, crowds most appreciative when team flying. A group came up to Melissa and asked if she was in charge of the WoW team, since she was leading,... should've seen her facial expression. I caught Burka leading and in forward flight too (natl holiday declared! enjoy that windy moment buddy, its rare!

  6. … and now for a happy tale. I just recently got my hands on two new kites. A full vent phantom 1.5 and the vented Polo Rev just in time for a short 4 day trip to Dewey DE. Lucky for me the weather was such that I never had to breakout my old beat up EXP. 4 days of perfect 15 mph winds with strong gusts. Now, back to the city with crappy winds and limited space. Thank you beach gods. Here is one of the few videos I shot. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  7. So my RWB plans for the 5" wide tails didn't go as planned.. While I'm trying to figure out what to do with the material, I've mocked up a new RWB Transition Mesh.. I know I said I thought I was done with the transitions but the apparent randomness of the finished product has a look I can't duplicate easily without them.. Inital mockup only.. Not even tape yet just a quick layout to decide if this is what I want or do I want a darker back to the kite with Red and Blue Strips instead of all white.. From the back right now this kite will be all white with specks of Red and blue unless it's front-lit in which case the Red and blue would show through better..

  8. Pay it forward buddy, I broke Ron gaziano's kite moments before his indoor performance, bob lauder broke ashworth's while Dave was in line to be judged as a builder at Smithsonian! You smile and wave it off. I understand your anguish but know we have all done this, felt bad and been released from obligation. Someday you'll be the guy with a hole in the sail, or a busted spar, severed lines and a huge tangled mess, just remember how it is handled. everything is the flyer's fault! if it is so valuable, then why was it out in the sun/weather, shared, not flown respectfully or put away immediately after use!? nigel, you were relieved of any obligation when you were offered that sail. Made by Steve Polanski, painted by his bride, given away? Yeah it is the way of a family, he passed out half a dozen of em at WISKF the year I went. It's a single skin, framed light, super responsive, you saw a squirrel and now it is busted. Who breaks a down spar thats a travel frame!? I've probably go another half already buddy. The issue is closed, see ya next time. oh, one more story,.... my dear friend Harold Ames, one first Sunday, he broke my 1,000# carrying wagon, and three sport kites. We still laugh about that ten years later, that guy is hard on a wedding ring! He GAVE my wife 14 mini-roks (battle in a bag) and she already had the only other set. We help each other,

  9. Yep, thanks for your patience! Feature desires noted, will suggest to the software developers.

  10. Nigel, forget about it. Paul has more diamond rods in his bag than Revolution Kites has in stock, and he's probably broken more than he owns. I think Rev will still make them.

  13. Great point!! I'm thinking the same thing now. I might do a stripe or two of Blue on one side only with the same intent in mind, I typically don't basket weave the transition tails since they have a good side and a bad side. I do basket weave a lot when using the single color (skywriter) tails. I thought about weaving in a pattern on a previous venture and it was pretty frustrating. Was going to make it say RIFF but proved a bit daunting. Agreed the back white material is less "bright" but it's the only white tails I have.. Keep in mind my ventures are all what can be done with tails as the base fabric. It does make for heavier sail but I like the random personality it gives to the kites,, Thanks for the suggestions, Will continue to try and get that right balance for this.. That's also why nothing is taped or sewn yet. This one will be a double build so I can mate the halves easier without having to flip the fabric.. I'll just cut the opposite diagonal and swap a half from each panel. End result will be 2 similar kites.. 1.5 size is the current plan..

  15. Do you not actually basket weave them together?? That would solve the all white back without changing the materials at all. It would also be fun to play with where they weave in order to get some colors to show clear and form a pattern or picture. Also, the back white is a less intense white than any of the front colors...So they show through more than if it was the same white from the front tails. I like the RWB on this one. 17. Recently I had 5 SLKs up, 4 pegged out and one "in hand". A lady walked over to me and asked, "How do you keep all those kites up?" I pointed out that 4 of them were attached to pegs. "Oh," she said, "I thought you had four friends but I couldn't see them."

  19. Hi, I'm Michael Wilkinson from Lincolnshire, UK. I have been flying kites on and off since childhood and at various times I have done it as a "proper hobby" rather than an occasional pastime. I took early retirement a few weeks ago. Looking for things to fill my time, I got my old kite bag out and sorted the various kites and lines out. I was surprised to find I had 12 single line kites and 4 double line kites. I don't even remember buying one or two of the SLKs and I'm pretty sure that at least one had never been flown. The DLKs were given to me and I had never flown them. Since then, I have been out more or less every second day and I have had up to 5 kites in the air at one time. I particularly like the feeling of satisfaction you get when you nurse a reluctant kite in a fitful breeze until finally you hook the wind a little further up. I achieved this with my 11 ft delta the other day and the wind "up there" was so strong that I struggled to haul it back down! I prefer SLKs but have some fun with my dad's old DLKs for a few minutes at a time before I get bored with them. I am much more of a flyer than a builder, but I have started to experiment with simple plastic or paper kites using sticky tape and cheap dowel. My proudest achievement so far is an 18" Eddy kite which, when adjusted right, can fly absolutely steady with a full length of line out. A few years ago, I was a member of Midland Kite Fliers - a regional club. Unfortunately, I am now some distance from where they have most of their fly ins. You will also find me on the kit builders forum. Other hobbies include Morris dancing, playing Anglo concertina, cross country and road unicycling, cycling, and riding my Moto Guzzi motorcycle. Over the last few weeks, I have been struck by how friendly the kiting community is, with several individuals approaching me when I've been flying to tell me about their own kites or experiences.

  20. I didn't space it out evenly but wanted to show what the backside looks like (generally) I just might need to break up the white with some solid Red and Blue..

  21. Found myself really missing chat today. Traded PM's with Riffclown a bit regarding the issue of it not working. I always close chat when I'm done but I know others leave the tab open & it sometimes shows them still logged in for days at a time. I find myself checking it with two to five people showing without me knowing that any of them are actually actively monitoring. I wish the chat software would clear out the room after a lengthy period of no one posting. I may start posting a time in and an amount of time I will stand by. Or perhaps a time when I am logging out. It would also be helpful if the service would show a notification when someone enters or leaves chat. I know some have logged on & I have missed greeting them. I must admit to trying to get them to post for a bit. But some are just looking or perhaps a bit shy. I am a lifelong introvert & chat brought me out from under my rock. Just a few thoughts from the field, SHBKF EDIT: 3:54 pm 5/8/17 CHAT IS BACK ON!

  24. Perfectly fine! Now go out and fly!! PS: if you've heard this before, then ignore - "Learn to give to the kite!" If crashing is unavoidable - DO NOT PULL!! Let it! Step forward, throw your hands forward, lessen the force your kite has impacting the ground. All pulling does is drive it harder into the ground! Better to have to go down and straighten it up, than go and find something broken!
