  1. I Think that the conclusion I have come to here is that instead of purchasing a fix for my all around kite, I need to purchase a kite made for higher winds like the HQ Fazer, or even a vented kite like the Silver Fox Vented...so darn, I need another kite

  2. I wanted to post this because I feel it may help those individuals I am speaking about given that I was/am one. For those of you that have come to admire and love the kites that are designed and fabricated by the infamous Lam, but cannot afford the $400-$500 that his kites cost, there will be a great medium and solution to this problem. Lam has been, and is in the process of, re-designing the well known Silver Fox series by Flying Wings. As I have come to find out, and as many of you already know, either through ownership or demo, the Silver Fox Series are kites of quality design, that incorporate high end materials for an affordable price. Between this forum and the GWTW forum, I have not read a single negative comment regarding the kites by Flying Wings, including the Silver Fox. And just as Bell Chieu did for a lot of Flying Wings Kites, Lam will be designing the Silver Fox Series under his close supervision to make sure only top end materials and exacting tolerances are kept with quality being foremost in mind. In my opinion I view Flying Wings as somewhat of a hybrid when it comes to kites…somewhere between mass produced and boutique. And now that Lam is on board, I would assume the kite will have a boutique feel now more than ever. What I have found out, as I understand it, is that Lam is re-designing the Silver Fox Standard & UL, and is designing a Silver Fox SUL with a Silver Fox Vented to come in the near future. Release of the Standard, UL and SUL will be sometime in October/November at price points all under $200…Can you say X-Mas Present?!?!? This means based on the current Silver Fox Prices, Standard - $145(All Around Kite), Ul - $145(Low Wind Kite), Vented - $189(Higher Wind Kite), with tax you can obtain each kite that will get you through most wind conditions at about roughly $550. I don’t see how you can go wrong here. You can spend $550 on just one of Lam’s custom kites. I hope this helps some newbies, such as myself, out there, and maybe even helped some individuals that, like myself, love Lam's designs and passion for kite fabrication, but can't justify the cost.

  3. I find it ironic that a sport/activity based on objects light enough to float in the breeze ends up with such big/heavy collections of stuff. I understand the what and why of it, but the irony remains. Sent from my Nexus 5X using KiteLife mobile app

  4. I dug a little and found some information regarding these Silver Fox kites designed by Lam Hoac. I posted in a new thread titled "Silver Fox Series by Flying Wings designed by LAM HOAC!!"

  5. Same here Wayne. Holds up to 15 kites with plenty of room for Rev doo dads. I have a small separate bag for single & dual lines and gear. I can't fathom going to the beach and bringing every kite I have along. I usually spend more time picking out kites to fly beforehand than picking out clothes and supplies. My wife calls me fussy when it comes to the kites.

  7. Good old Rev roll up bag here for my quads - just about all I fly at a festival anymore. I put a second strap on it and made it a backpack style, leaving my hands free to carry my cooler and small bag of flying goodies. In a pinch, I can roll a tarp and/or a sun shelter in it, especially if I plan on an all day affair!

  8. Polyester is also known as Dacron and is not suitable for stunt kite lines. Way too stretchy, even in its best form. Good for single line kites only, that stretch will take up the shock of lulls and gusts. Would not advise for stunt use! Polyethene or polyethylene (dyneema, spectra) is for stunt use. I would suggest sticking with known lines - LPG, Shanti Speed, Shanti Skybond. If you can find them - the Prism lines are OK too. Some of the internet stuff is pretty much junk. Expensive - yes, but not the place to cheap out - IMHO!

  9. This is a sweet ride. I have a 5 stack of 4' flexi 's that I've only stacked two of them once and something wasn't right. I think I need this to make a 6 stack.. And some stacking instructions lol

  13. @Robertsepolen I'm assuming that you're in the Walla Walla, Washington area. The least expensive way to get started with a quality quad-line kite is to purchase a "ready to fly" (RTF) package in the Revolution Kite model EXP for about $210 including shipping. It is available in a standard sail only, which is meant for wind in the 3-15mph range. This will get you started, and if you get really into it you can expand your collection to cover the higher wind ranges. There is no "one size fits all" kite, so you will be limited to flying in winds of 4-12mph initially until you gain experience. You won't get off the ground in wind less than 4mph, and will have no control of the kite in wind over 12mph until you have at least 40 hours of flight time. It's not rocket science to learn to fly a quad, but at the same time it's also not a piece of cake. If you have any questions please ask. We'll do our best to help you.

  15. Hey mate. It's not too bad. Which bits didn't you understand? It's all friendly here. As a beginner, get a rtf (ready to fly) package. This comes with everything you need to go straight from your letterbox to the flying field. Sent from my iPhone using KiteLife mobile app

  16. Well done repair. Should last quite some time. One thing I forgot to mention in earlier posts here is that the leading edge ferrules tend to loosen as you fly the kite if the leading edge bungees are too loose. If your leading edge ferrules are not fully seated when you pack up at the end of the day (you should check each time, just feel the joints with your fingers), it is an indicator to check the bungees for proper tension. It is good to check before removing any endcaps, as the extra tension of removing the endcap may be enough to crack the tube. Takes 5 seconds to verify that all is well; worth every second.

  17. If you do make your own sets, it's all about how you value the time you invest in making them! Buy all the right supplies and yes, it's about 1/2 of what you pay from most stores. But then add the time in to make GOOD sets, sleeving if you do, stretching, equalizing, and it's a several hour job for those of us that can. So it really becomes a balancing act of what you consider time is worth to you. I have made many of my own sets for many year, but I pick a no wind day and make sets instead of flying, Being disabled, I have the time. Many don't. Theresa's (TKS) sets might be a bit more, but she makes every one of them by hand, using LPG materials. I know, I've used her lines myself!! They are accurately measured, prestretched, use light bridle line as sleeves. and are ready to fly as is! So like I said - it's a determination of what your time is worth to you if you decide to make your own!
