  1. Much faster load and no hang, appears cleaner too, although on broadband we have contention problems and ISP's throttleing at prime time here which of course makes anything slow even slower at certain times. Now if the sun could come out in the header instead of being stuck at midnight....
  2. John I am referring to the extras now included such as all the stuff on the right hand side of the index page, whether this stuff is causing the hang and a longer wait for the page to load I dont know but the hang occurs whether the right hand side column is on screen or not. The topic pages are also slow to load (I do have b,band), the page foot "Featured Sponsor" add may be having some effect, obviously these are a needed part of this forum and might not migrate to the Rev forum. It would be good to find out whatever the cause of the slower page loads is before exporting the format to the Rev forum.
  3. IP board works best for me but the dark index page is not so good, these things work better for me when they appear bright and breezy, bit like a good kite day really. Most important thing is content, change at the cost of lively interesting content is a retrograde step that appears to have already affected this forum, it does not seem so lively these days. If change is vital for forum or site security upgrading should not be up for discussion, perhaps it would be best to just make the changes as seamless as possible, adding the bells and whistles have only created noise.
  4. IMO all of them are "bloated", the boxes to the right offer too much information, as with the current layout some of which is often duplicated, this makes the index page too crowded for my liking. The index page is too slow to load now, quite often I can skim down the page checking for anything of interest before the adds have loaded, for me status, latest blog entries etc would be better on a seperate page somewhere. This is a read/write medium, the best way to present written information has been well honed over a great number of years, it is difficult to improve on a well laid out page useing high contrast with minimal clutter to get information across. As with most written work content is everything though. BTW on my screen (1280 wide) this page has too much empty space to the left and has text hard up to a minimal right margin, the layout could be improved for easy scanning, it may well look different on other screens.
  5. Thats about it, camera fixed to kite and point kite at subject, sometimes it works ok, on that day I was at the edge of the available window most of the time and had a problem holding a stable hover, I hope to give it another go when more are there, can be 8 or 9 zipping around when the wind is up. Clipped from a vid taken at the time.
  6. Just playing around earlier in the week with a camera fixed to a quad.
  7. We manage to have quite a number of days through the year just flying stuff with friends, if you want to live long playing around in the sun works just fine.

Bit of a problem now with showing vids on Youtube which have routines flown using copyright music, I have now lost 4 from Y'tube and Google which were using "live" sound. iQuad flying with Stairway to Heaven was the latest to go, the sound is muted which ruins the effect, I have deleted the soundless vids and am reworking some.
  9. Some really useful info there, I have used the Skyshark tubes for some while now and they take one heck of a thrashing, have yet to break one on a Rev type kite. I ferrule mine slightly differently, I only ferrule the outer tubes leaving the central tube without ferrules, it makes for an easier job if a ferrue gives and slides into the tube, just poke it out from the other end, the kite also packs 2in shorter if going into a case for travel. Avia .240 tube (the nominal o/d in thousands of an inch) works fine for ferrules and might be better for double ferruled tubes, (no air pressure build up) I just use C/A glue (known as Super glue here) to fix the ferrules and that seems to last plenty long enough. As for stiffness, I have had no problem with quad kites useing the full length tubes, this makes for a kite that falls between the Rev1 and the 1.5 in size. I use the P200's for my lighter wind kites, the 300's and 400's tubes I use for any winds we have here. The tubes are certainly an economic choice here in the UK.

    Mega Vent

Penny The windspeed reference was to the maximum recorded while it was flying, the forecast was for 12 mph and thats just about what it was. You are right about the wind going straight through, to be honest I was a bit bemused at the time, I could not believe how it was flying with next to no load at the handles, I was expecting it to fall out of the sky at times the load was so light. Yeh Antman, hoping to try in much stronger wind soon.

    Mega Vent

We seem to be regularly flying in high winds here and many folk here either make or alter standard kites to deal with the higher loads, so, here is my 40% mesh quad. I was trying for a decent wind range, so far only tried the low wind end of the range and that worked fine, another gale would be good. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Y34AWCJtDsM
  12. Seems as if a good many of us UK fliers have been on the planet some time, bit like The Last of the Summer Wine about here some days, and just as much nonsense, one of the fella's is aiming to be the UK's best 80 year old Rev flier, he will make it. Sounds as if you are in Big Bri's bit o' Britain, he posts on the Rev forum, along with his mates he flies at Ainsdale beach among other places, check out the Northern Kite Group site for info on who is who up in the dark distant north. B series is the way to go, and the vent will get the most use in the UK, full kite wind ranges come as you gain experience, it gets a lot easier to fly in light and heavy winds after a while.
  13. Good to meet up with you all and just fly, we had a great time. Another vid of the Megafly here. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=IlxE85l7_xo Bruce
