  1. Time to add my thoughts, bcs: a) I've got a lot of hours on the 1.8 now and by gawd I'm looking for my next kite!! The STX 1.8 is a LOT of fun to fly and it's taken a number of thumps to the nose - so I'd rate it sturdy even for the novice in me. I've learned tricks rather easily on it - it does seem to WANT to trick - and I've even been able to coax some of those new tricks outta the old Prism Adrenaline when the winds are up and the 1.8's grounded. Flying the 1.8 has really improved my game. However, I was not overly impressed with the construction. A lot of seems are poorly cut and fraying and they catch my 50# line often. Could be unique to my kite, but something look for if you're considering a CDC kite. It will fly in very low winds, but anything less than a couple MPH takes some backtracking - a downright run during the lulls.
  2. thank you! great input and I'll check out that link. best ...
  3. yup, took over a week for a response ... but hey, they did reply. Here's the message verbatim: Hi Andy, have you tried this briddle ? External low : 53cm External up :47.5cm internal : 43.5cm Turbo: 7 cm Dear regards JP This helps, but what I really need is an education on how the adjustments are made and what effect they each have - really beginner stuff (Prism's site has a little bit on this). Also, does taking the top spreader out help? I'm going to try 25' lines. too. All the videos of 1.8s flying indoors are (of course) all on shorter lines. That should help, too.
  4. Re: the lines - I'm flying it with 50' of 50#. Would longer lines actually help? Goes against what passes for logic in my little brain. And according to CDC's own website specs, it's rated for "0.1 to 12 mph."
  5. I've been flying my new CDC STX 1.8 and am really beginning to enjoy it. It's taken some time to move from the heavy handed Prism Adrenaline, but I'm slowly learning new techniques on the much more capable CDC. According to CDC, this 1.8 is rated for winds as low as "0.1mph" But, while I can get a great 360 out of it, man it takes a lot of work. i was expecting a brisk walk, but it requires a pretty hard run. So, it makes me wonder if there are low wind adjustments I'm missing. This briddle's a good bit different from the old Prism! ;)So far I've moved the tow points higher (from slight to extreme - even tried lower), and removed the top spreader - thought the small weight reduction might help. I've emailed CDC for advice, but a week's gone by and no one's responded Have any other suggestions for a novice? TIA
  6. Well, great posts. Thnks for the input. I just bought the 1.8 from Extreme Kites in FL. at a great price. Should be flying it in a couple of days and will be sure to post my thoughts soon!
  7. YES! Saw the video yesterday and was thoroughly impressed. Final question: will the 1.8 stand up to a relative novice? Can I bang it around a little while I learn to get "tricky wid it?" And, (OK just two questions) would you say it's got considerably more tricks in it than the Ozone?
  8. I really wish I COULD try first. Unfortunately, Atlanta is a Kite-poor area. I'm working to hook up with the local AKA chapter since the closest legitimate kite store is over 100 miles away. I'd really like a kite I can play with in no wind, just to maximize my opportunities. That said, most of the flying will probably be in 1-3mph.
  9. thanks, good input. How do they compare in trick-ability? My impression is the Ozone won't trick as well as the JITBL and C21E, but these two won't get off the ground in no-wind situations like the Ozone will. Am I wrong about that?
  10. I've not found in any of the forums direct comparison of a couple kites I'm considering. But first, let me say I'm new and am just getting some basic tricks outta my Prism Adrenaline. I'm ready to fly more, but here in Atlanta winds are often L&V, particularly in the handy nearby park. So, based on some help from others, I've narrowed my search to the Prism Ozone, or Level One's C21 Extreme or JIB Light. Of course, I'm still open if you have a strong opinion. I have two primary considerations: ability to fly in no/low winds and the most trickable kite among it's category peers. Not a lot to ask, right? And, oh yeah, I better keep it under $200. There ya have it. Any and all input is greatly appreciated!!
