  1. I appreciate those suggestions - thanks!
  2. I'm pretty intrigued by kite buggying and am interested in getting a little more of an idea of how I could get into the sport. I'm comfortable flying foils and have had a summer of quad line flying as well. There's not loads of space at out local kite field but I was thinking that if I could get a feel for the sport I could mix it into some holiday destinations in the future like Long Beach on Vancouver Island and the Oregon Coast. Is it possible to get into it without totally breaking the bank? How much does body weight play into the type of gear needed? I am a 130 lb woman of average fitness and with a big dose of enthusiasm for things that zip along. I'd appreciate any advice and also any links to sites that you'd recommend for a wanna be like me. thanks, Erin

    Kitesurfing

Nice work! So I am guessing that the only way you could direct the camera to a specific area was to fly the kite towards what you wanted to capture with the camera, right?
  4. is hoping the rain will go and the wind will return.

    Rev forum down?

Kitelife forum was down earlier as well, looks like JB got it back up. He may be having additional trouble with the Rev forum, and he is in Bogota at the moment. Be patient, I am sure it will be back up as soon as he is able to get the problem fixed. Thanks for the feedback guys. Its a rainy day here in Vancouver so I am stuck indoors and therefore haunting my favourite forums more than I usually do in the summer time. It seems I'm already rather addicted to the Rev forum. :-)
  6. "IPS Driver Error" is the message I'm getting all day when I try to get on the Rev forum. Anyone else getting that message? Is it an overload problem? Any ideas?
  7. Well we had a nice westerly blowing off of the water on Friday and I finally had a chance to try the new 50 foot twin tails on the parafoil. The kite flew brilliantly with her new pair of rainbow tails! Thanks for your suggestions guys. I'm really happy with how the foil is flying now. cheers, Erin
  8. Yes, Kitelife, it was in fact pretty gusty the times I first tried to fly the parafoil. Today I got two 50 foot tails and added them to the kite but the winds were light and then dropped right off. So I'll have to wait for a better wind day before knowing how the foil reacts to its new tails. Our flying area is a little park sticking right out into the ocean. Usually if there are unimpeded winds anywhere in town it will be there but you know how it goes, no matter where you are sometimes the wind can be lumpy!
  9. Yes, maybe I'll try adding a longer tail to either side then. It already has two tails attached but perhaps, as you suggested, they are not sufficient for this kite. thanks, Erin
  10. It can twist either way....ok, maybe a little more left than right...I'll see what can be adjusted. So should I shorten the right side then....? thanks, Erin
  11. I picked up a single line parafoil, 27 inches by 35 inches, a few weeks ago because it was a nice big single line that I could easily stuff into a bike bag, given its lack of spars, and fly on the side when I flew one of my stunt kites. I'm no stranger to single lines and of the various types I have flown in the past none has been as wonky as this parafoil. The first time I launched it was in light'ish winds and it went up easily and stayed steady, as I would have expected. However the next time the wind was much stronger and the foil, once up, started to twist and dive erratically. If I let some line out I could get it to stabilize but only temporarily. I just assumed it couldn't handle heavy winds. The third time I brought this kite out the wind was moderate but again the kite would twist and dive unpredictably. I checked the lines, but really there is no bridle like on a stunt kite so I wasn't sure what I could adjust. A local flyer said offhandedly that maybe the kite needed a longer tail ( it currently has two tails that came with the kite, attached to either side ). I know that these parafoils are usually pretty reliable and generally fly with good lift. I have seen many at kite festivals and they generally seem to be flying steady and stable. Any ideas about my parafoil's poor flying style or what I might do to improve its flying ability?
  12. Thanks for your suggestions guys. Very helpful. Our local shop is not able to get that much in with regards to kites because they say they only deal with a few specific companies. Online shopping is a godsend when one has specific interests within a less than mainstream sport.
  13. I wasn't sure where to post this so thought I'd try here. I am looking for some of those cool wind spinning things that are staked to the ground, perferablly but sometimes also seen flying off of poles a kite festivals. I think some may be called 'bols', and there's some called 'f-stop', to give you an idea of what I mean. I have seem some neat stuff adding to the kite atmosphere at festivals but my local shop doesn't stock anything but kites and conventional windsocks and I haven't had much luck searching through the wares of online stores. Can anyone point me in the right direction for these types of goodies? thanks, Erin
  14. That's a very cool option! I'll definitely check that out. thanks, Erin
  15. Well the winds have been very good here in Vancouver for the last few weeks and while I'm waiting for my first quad line, a Rev 1.5, to arrive in the mail I decided to snag a Prism Snapshot 1.4 foil dual line kite. I grabbed the kite because I had never flown a foil before and also I wanted a sport kite that I could stash in my bike panniers just in case the wind was good and I had a little extra time while out riding to do a little flying. The snapshot is perfect for this application. No spars of course so it packs up small. But well made, good bridle, very easy to launch and fly, it is a lot of fun in a little package! I find the foil doesn't like to mess with technical sport kite tricks but nevertheless it is a graceful and interesting kite to fly. With the 1.4 the pull is no different than most of my sport kites and that's a good thing because at 130 lbs I wasn't interested in being dragged over the gravel as I have send bigger foils do to bigger people. The 1.4 poses no threat and is a pleasant change from the harder edged sport kites in my bag. I flew the kite in about 15 mph winds yesterday. I am curious to see what its upper and lower wind range will be so I'll try fly it in as many different wind conditions as I can find for a while. But of course when the Rev finally arrives the foil my have a bit of competition for my attention...then again the Rev will probably not come along with me when I am go biking.
