  12. I've been doing a fair bit of urban/street kiting on my Revs recently and I thought I might be able to share some tips. Feel free to chime in with what works for you. Pick your area. Clean air isn't important, in fact it adds an element of excitement. Cars and people MUST be considered, law suits can eat up future kite purchases. Consider street lights if going out at night. Obstacles like trees, shrubs can be detrimental but signs, bike racks and playground equipment are a plus! It never hurts to have a look around before you pull any gear out. Pick your equipment. Buildings can both cause a wind shadow and a wind funnel. Distances of free space will affect your line length. Pick your time. Watch out for midnight watering schedules. Or even early morning deliveries. Most importantly is to be safe about it.

  16. Howdy all, after having flown a couple of months with my kind of patriotic looking Rev EXP (jup, i'm from The Netherlands), i decided it's time for a little change to this wonderful kite. So, after some thinking, I did make some vent panels, but not in the usual place on the kite. Just check the picture and you will see what i mean. I can tell you that I am very happy with the results, flying has become more stable and it definitely looks a lot better (IMHO) ! So far my two cents for 2013 Greetings and have a wonderful New Year !
  17. Tonite was the nite.... I paced all night at work and could hardly sit still. I knew that just on the otherside of that door in front of me, the wind was pumping....and it was prime B2 Vented time. Finally the time came and I rushed to a large field in front of our Jax Beach Amphitheatre. Thunderbirds...a popular concert venue had some live music pumping...the wind was 12/15 with some stronger gust occasionally. I grabbed the kite,2 sets of lines(30'&50'*50#) and 2 sets of handles(9"&11"). The 50' happened to be on the larger handles ....so away we went. I unrolled ,hooked up the kite....and with no hesitation, stood up and threw it. Ooooooooowwwwwweeeeeee! It reached the line length quick and popped up ready! A quick lap around the window and I couldn't resist....... An axel off to each side. After an hour of grinning and flying 2' of a1a or 1st street....had some onlookers and police hanging around, so I wrapped it up before bar closing time. Thanks again to KiteLife for the chance to have won this kite and providing me with the endless knowledge on how to fly it...... Only 1 picture. I don't like setting my camera down at nite in that environment. Get some video before too long.
  18. After officially joining the dark side with the gift certificate I won here last winter, I had my first chance last weekend to fly in formation with a group of other (much more experienced) Rev. fliers. What a blast! I was kite number 10 of a 10-kite flight at the third-annual Illinois Kite Enthusiasts' weekend retreat. We did some follow-the-leader and a couple of static formations. I had more trouble than anyone else staying in position, but part of the time I did OK. The other fliers were very gracious and encouraging and I got a great deal out of the experience, which is why I'm writing. If you're a novice (like me) or future Rev. flier, take heed: If a group of experienced fliers invites you to fly with them, do not hesitate! Don't worry about whether you're good enough. They've been watching you fly and know what they're getting themselves into. Do realize that group flying can help improve your precision more than solo flying. This is especially true with speed control. Flying solo, it's really hard to know how well you're really controlling your speed. In a group, you know exactly how good your speed control is! And these training benefits, I suspect, are big part of what prompted the experienced fliers to invite the novice in. They knew what it would do for my flying, because they've been there. If you haven't had a chance to fly with a group yet, I recommend that during your solo flying, you work on holding hovers more than just zipping around the sky. Then, fly horizontal figures 8, slowly, without allowing your kite to speed up on the descents or slow down on the climbs. This is particularly difficult to judge when flying alone, but work on it anyway. Then, find some experienced people to fly with. I'm lucky that the IKE retreat happens only a couple of hours from home, but there are plenty of other kite clubs around the country who have fun flies, so find one. Believe me, you'll get a lot out of it!
