REV II STD to UL or SUL

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I've lots of fun learning to fly quadline on my more than 10 year old REV II. Its a standard framed REV II.

Since I live in a low wind area, am seriously looking into switching the frame to a UL or SUL. Anyone knows the right type to use?

What are the diameter and stiffness that I should look for? Its kinda hard for me to understand imperial dimensions as I was brought up on metric.

Cheers,

Patrick

Simple way to convert measurements is to use google. Just type in 2 inch to mm in the search bar of google and it will convert the measurement over for you.

As far as the Rev II goes well...your in luck!

We just got in some brand new 2008 Rev II's and they are awesome. The biggest difference is that the sail now sports the same panel layout as the 1.5 SLE kites with the same colors - kewl!

BUT.................

The most awesome feature is the all new 3 piece leading edge that allows the Rev II to fold down super small, small enough to slide into your suitcase for traveling!

But wait...there's more....

An all new "Race Rod" frame set is now available for the Rev II as well (Yup, also comes with a 3 piece leading edge)! Now you can lighten up your Rev II just like it's big brother!

And of course, we have the new Race Rod frame as well as the new standard frame in stock if you wish to convert your older Rev II to the new 3 piece set. This new Rev II is sweet!

Great new things coming from the Rev Vault.

Hey...looks like this last option is the best for me, what's the cost of Race Rods (3 piece set)? Does it also include the 2 vertical spars? I can live with my current REVII sail for now ;) You may PM me the cost of the Race Rod/shipping. I may have a few other things to order as well.

  • 1 month later...

I have successfully modified my REVII into an SUL.

I used Skyshark P200 rods, LE is a 3 piece job, 24.75" each and connected by solid carbon rods (internal ferrules).

The 2 verticals are also P200s.

Yesterday, it flew for the first time in winds of up to 3 knots (5 mph) and when it was down to a whisper, it still held its air with a bit of back-pedaling ;)

I suspect a REV II with the new race rod and 120 foot 50 lb line set would be a wonderful kite in lower winds. Bet this would fly down to 4 mph. All that should blow a metric mind. I learned on a REV II and think the kite is a blast. Love the speed. I think a REV II would be great on a ballet routine.

I busted my LE on the REV a couple a years ago and just plugged the old LE with some fibreglass and just fly it in high winds. The LE is heavy but it really makes the kite mageable when the winds are howling.

I think an indoor version of REV II would be interesting. I really don't like bigger REVs indoors but the II is a cool size and would fly a little faster. Just a thought.

Two reasons I mod it to SUL and the LE to 3 pieces.

1) The winds here usually sucks and comes in little "farts"...know what I mean?

2) Portability - since I travel alot, the 3 piece LE made a huge difference, I can stuff it in my luggage bag!

I agree the REVII is a blast to fly, although not precise, the speed makes up for the it.

;) I think the nice thing about the twos is that they are fast and precise.. You can go as slow as you want and as fast as you can and still have fantastic control. Yes, I've seen rev. II 'SUL's fly inside and a stack in side is real kewl, too. Shorter handles make a big difference making it much more controllable in high wind.

I like a vented Rev. II best of all. It flies cleaner in those ugly winds.
