Joel Scholz kites

I saw and instantly fell in love with two Joel Scholz kites (originals)....part of his signature series 'Toucan' and 'American Eagle' imagine in the next breath I heard that they were no longer being made :confused!:

Heard he sadly stopped making kites back in something like 2001, where GFAK took up the bat to offer his designs once again.

Been looking around for the past month now.

Are they still making them or has this ceased?

Did GFAK ever actually make the 'Toucan' or 'American Eagle'? http://www.goflyakite.com/joelscholz.html

Anyone have any photos of any of his...pieces of flying art to put it bluntly ^_^

Any idea where I can buy them..don't mind where.

Thanks

Chris

I have a couple of kites made by Joel, the first one I got is a "Luna Moth" dual line. The second one I got for my wife it'a a single line called "Pink Floyd"

GFAK versions of Joel's designs are still quite nice, the quality of the sewing is just not up to par with the originals. I also have 2 "Luna Moth's" produced by GFAK and you can tell the difference.

Thanks Mike,

"Luna Moth" and the GFAK look pretty nice alright. Given the choice would you trade them for his 'Kestrels' well who wouldn't....still very nice kites though.

Heard that "Pink Floyd" Flamingo is quite a sight with its 11.5' wingspan and those long legs a flapping around in the breeze. http://highlinekites.com/gallery/kta2001-04.shtml

Nice to get advice from someone who has both the original and GFAK versions. Much quality in material, spars and connectors too?

Did you see the web site's copyright at the bottom?

I knew from his old website http://www.skydelight.com/ that he'd an interest in RC planes...so did a bit of snooping down that avenue.

Fairly cool little micro-lites incorporating kites. Of course the sails were the dead give away and then his wife Bonnie modelling err! well the models :D

Well if we can't buy his kites anymore, I suppose its of some consolation, the knowledge that those glorious sail designs live on in another form. All be it accompanied by the buzzing sound of a tiny two stoke engine.

My quest to purchase his kites continues, in vain ;)

I have a lightly used American Eagle kite. Original Joel S. kite. I would be willing to part with it. Feel free to email me and discuss transfer.
