RV travel and kites

I'm new to the sport of kite flying, having just been introduced to it at the Long Beach, WA kite festival in August, 2013. For the last 15 years we have lived and traveled fulltime in an RV and make our living publishing an RV newspaper and I write blogs, books on RVing, travel, and also mysteries. Some other forum members expressed an interest in my blogs about kite flying and suggested I post here and share some blog links, so here goes, starting with the kite festival. http://gypsyjournalrv.com/2013/08/dancing-in-the-wind/

We had so much fun the first day that friends drove up from Oregon to go with us the next day http://gypsyjournalrv.com/2013/08/kites-friends-fun/

I had purchased a single string G-Kites Delta Conyne a while back and never flew it, so I was inspired to try it, flying a kite for the first time in about 50 years http://gypsyjournalrv.com/2013/08/and-i-didnt-even-crash/

We went back to the kite festival and discovered Revs and my wife, who is usually content to watch me play, was instantly hooked http://gypsyjournalrv.com/2013/08/et-tu-terry/

Meanwhile, I had ordered a Prism Snapshot 1.9 speed foil and tried it out http://gypsyjournalrv.com/2013/09/keeping-it-up/

We moved down the coast to Seaside, Oregon and I got some more line time in with the Snapshot http://gypsyjournalrv.com/2013/09/we-like-seaside/

While we were there I introduced two of my RVing friends to kites and got them hooked. One is a retired California highway patrolman who thoughts kites were for kids. He had a change of mind real quick! They both bought kites the next day. http://gypsyjournalrv.com/2013/09/two-new-converts/

This blog was from a competition in Seaside, Oregon, where we met John Barresi. http://gypsyjournalr...rn-kites-again/ After seeing the Revs being flow there, our friend Nancy immediately went to Northwest Winds in Seaside and bought a 1.9.

If anybody is interested, I'll share occasional blog posts about our RV travels when they involve kite flying.

I have been carrying kites in my motor home for many years, since the eighties. Flown many places & times because I had a kite handy. There are five in the little rig right now. On a day with good conditions I leave a kite assembled, with lines attached, on the bed. Parking lots, rest areas, anyplace can be a kite field.

Nick, your description of an occasional tight spin to the left leaves me to believe that you are snagging one of your lines somewhere on the kite, dramatically changing the effective length of that line. I would check my line lengths. It's desirable that they all be the same, but critical that the tops are the same length and the bottoms are the same length. It takes a little practice to learn the difference between quad line and dual line flying. Keep watching the vids and hopefully you can find someone to fly with. Good Winds

Checking the kite I've just attached to the lines is something I don't do quite enough. But if you pick it up by the bridle ends, seeing if it hangs straight & square, it will show you problems before you're in the air. Revs seem to get extra wraps on the tips & deltas get the bridle under the spreader when I hurry too much. Recently read about Rev bridles getting out of adjustment & I need to check all mine. I learned to put a bit of beeswax on the duelie bridle adjustments to lock them better. Early on my skills were such that it looked like everything was out of whack. I've got a recent shipment of whack & it should hold me for awhile now.
