Hi all,

Just doing a civic duty and letting folks know about the World Sport Kite Championships (WSKC) coming up next month. :)

It occurs every even numbered year - here are the now retired 2014 champions, Scratch Bunnies (from UK):

You can see videos of many past winners here - Champion Videos

Also, they've just published a 2016 event preview - 10th Edition Preview

You can also follow WSKC updates on Facebook - facebook.com/WorldKiteChampionship/

Should be one heck of a battle. :)

Trivia side note as an American, last team from the US to win was Cutting Edge...

2006

2005

Before that, I don't believe we had a US champion since 1996 (Team Tsunami) when it was actually a different championship organizer (World Cup)... That ought to light a fire under somebody's butt. :)

Here's the line up this year:

China:

  • Dalian Storm
  • Team Win Sky Shanghai

Colombia:

  • Equipo AndeSky
  • Equipo Atemoc

 France:

  • Cerf-Volants Folie
  • Les Mademoiz’Ailes
  • Panam’Air
  • Start’Air

Malaysia:

  • Team Silat

Russia:

  • Red Alert

United Kingdom:

  • Flame

United States:

  • Air Zone
  • FourCe

I believe there have been at least one Aussie team in the World Cup (1990-1998) but not in the World Sport Kite Championships (2002-2016).

Was it Ocean Breeze kite team, with Bob Dawson (deceased)?

I don't know, sorry.

The records are likely contained within the pages of American Kite Magazine, which I've been unable to secure rights to republish like we did with Stunt Kite Quarterly and Kite Lines.

I was just scrolling through that SKQ, and read about a competition that was only 1/2 hour from my house... Where was I back then ? I've heard from some of the old timers that I've run into over the years how much more popular flying used to be around here, didn't realize that there were actual regional championships around here, though.
