The Carolina Kite Club was asked to put some color in the sky for the Earth Day Celebration at Fort Macon State Park. Unfortunately, strong winds made it unwise and unsafe to fly kites on the beach that day. Although some did try.
The Earth Day Celebration
It was close to a perfect day for flying kites. Lower winds, warm temperatures and sunshine (at least for a while). And a chance to fly some new single line kites and try out the Reflex.
It's A Beautiful Morning
The Mile of Hope is a weekend away for families who have a child who has cancer. The children get to spend time on the beach, playing in the sand and flying kites. The Carolian Kite Club members put on a show of kites in the air and help solve any kite flying problems that may occur.

It's raining on the Outer Banks of North Carolina and it looks like it will be a while before I get to do some flying. So I just have to think about the last couple of times and enjoy the memories.
Reflecting On Kites While Watching It Rain
Because the holiday weekends on the beach are the ultimate crazy, we don't plan on flying much. This Memorial Day tropical storm Bonnie threw in an additional curve in everyone's plans. However, there still was an indoor kiting program to present during the holiday which kept kiting on our minds. A short fly was in order after the crowds left.

Father's Day was a beautiful day to fly kites, lower temperatures, lower humidity and higher winds. But not too high. And we had some new kites to fly.
Happy Father's Day
Things in life distracted me and I hadn't realized that it has been two years since I wrote anything. To those who were following me, I sincerely apologize. The good news is we haven't stopped flying our kites.
I Hadn't Realized
The community kite fly day has come and gone. An unwanted guest showed up and caused a cancellation. The guest's name -- FLORENCE. Hurricane Florence brought two days of high winds and three days of rain. And evacuations and curfews which kept us from the beach.
All I Wanted To Do Was Fly
After spending the week cleaning and removing debris, I was looking forward to a community kite fly as a means to get away from it all. Unfortunately, Fort Macon State Park is closed. For how long, we have no idea. They are doing damage assessment and repair and have to see how much beach remains after the storm.
After The Storm
Fort Macon State Park is open. Although the fort itself is closed because of damage from Hurricane Florence. The early report concerning the weekly community kite fly was encouraging but we couldn't verify the information because we weren't there.
Missing A Good Day
This past weekend was the 31st Carolina Kite Festival at the Sands Villa Resort in Atlantic Beach, NC. We had no idea how this one would be attended as Hurricane Florence hit us hard and many people are out of work and out of their homes. Also, many of the hotels and condo units were damaged which made accommodations in the area harder to find. But it didn't deter most of our regular out-of-town flyers.

Just like the Carolina Kite Festival this past weekend, the winds were high for the weekly community kite fly. But I did get to fly my new Peter Lynn Kite Show during the week.
And The Wind Blows Again
The weather has truly been against us as far as the community kite fly. And this day was no exception. Early morning rain, cloudy skies and high winds made it dark and gloomy and questionable for flying. However, there were a couple of desperate people who were willing to take a chance and put a kite in the air.
A Time Of Quiet Desperation
The past year has flown by and it has been a busy one. But I didn't realize it has been a year since I had written anything. And it hasn't been because we haven't been flying anything. There have been festivals and workshops and just everyday flying. I just haven't been writing. So here's to beginning again and hopefully doing better.

The latest kite fly was again cold and very windy. So windy, in fact, I only put delta kites in the truck and grabbed our heavier lines.
