Kite carnival joy for Putrajaya youth gathering
KUALA LUMPUR: The Putrajaya Kite Association (PPPj) will organise a ‘Mari Terbang’ (Come Fly) kite carnival in conjunction with the Gathering of a Million Youths 2012 programme at Precinct 4 in Putrajaya from May 23 to 27.
Association president Nasri Ahmad said various kinds of traditional, modern and giant kites would be flown during the carnival.
“We will fly more than 20 giant squid kites of various kinds, the Rokkaku kites and other big kites,” he said in a statement.
Nasri said more than 100 kite flyers from Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand were expected to join their Malaysian counterparts at the carnival, bringing along their own kites and concepts.
Other activities during the carnival include an exhibition, fireworks, a kite-making workshop, kite painting for children and a photography contest, he said.
“The highlight will be the ‘Karunia dari Angkasa’ (Gift from Space) for visitors in the form of souvenirs dropped periodically from giant kites up in the sky,” he said. — Bernama
