NEW HUDSON, MI -- It will be a day of free and fun activities for the whole family when kids and kite aficionados of all ages are invited to the Lyon Twp. Kite Festival that will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2012 from 10:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. at James Atchison Memorial Park in New Hudson.
A sight to see will be the Windjammers Professional Kite Flyers as they showcase their top talents at the Kite Festival.
The Lyon Township Kite Festival will offer a variety of events in additional to the kite flying including a petting zoo, new and used classic car display by the "Spark Plugs" for auto enthusiasts, moon walk and inflatable obstacle course, face painting, cartoon characters, old fashioned jump rope making, GPS treasure hunt, caricature artist, radio controlled boat race, Zumba dance, and Karate demonstration and more … Special prizes will be awarded to participants throughout the day.
New to the Kite Festival, a "Pulled Pork Cook-Off" contest sponsored by the South Lyon Area Chamber of Commerce will be held from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. where restaurants are invited to enter their very best recipe and win the coveted title and bragging rights for, "Best of the Lyon Township Kite Festival 2012." A panel of area judges will judge the cook-off in a blind taste test where they will not now the restaurant's name, in addition to attendees that can taste test samples and vote by ballot.
Kites of all shapes and sizes will fill the air at Oakland County's best kept secret for kite flying - the bluff-top park that overlooks the beautiful hamlet area of New Hudson. Don't know how to fly a kite? You can learn at the Kite Festival to launch, fly and land kites. If you don't use a free kite kit provided by the festival - you can purchase one at the Kite Festival.
The Lyon Township's James Atchison Memorial Park is located along the I-96 corridor at Exit 155, behind the Lyon Twp. Hall at 58000 Grand River Ave. in New Hudson.
