Firstly I wanted to apologize for my absence here! Without going into details it has been a super cruddy month. Kites and especially the karma drawing were a rare positive for me and I still want to pay things forward. I just logged in and realized things have moved on without me so I reached out to John, who suggested I sweeten the pot that Mike has generously offered!
I was planning on making a specific project for the winner but with things going the way they are I'm not sure if I can get it finished by the 12th. I wish I could match the generosity of drdemonx and Mike but I just can't commit to that right now. So minimally I want to immediately buy the winner this (inexpensive sorry but surprisingly robust) parafoil you can see my friend using in this youtube video. The only thing I don't love about this parafoil are the lines but I'm guessing most of you have several sets?
I still want to finish the project I was originally going to put up for the draw and send that out before the end of August. And Mike, I'd also like to send you something in thanks for hosting the restart.
Thanks for hosting such a vibrant and resilient community. I'm super sorry that my absence caused the need for this drawing to restart! I hope to be a more active participant in the future!
P.S I had the best time with the quantum a couple days ago. I have all day today to myself and am really hoping the wind will oblige! It is amazing to fly!!
My perspective is completely different. No one does kiting that I'm aware of in Stockholm. If I talk about my hobby I immediately feel a need to justify it, since the first picture that people in general get is something bought at toy section at the local petrol station. I've said it before somewhere, but I say it again, I haven't seen a decent kiter during this millennium, possibly with the exception of static SLKs or power foils. Down with all computers in a general sense (except from the wonderful servers driving this marvelous kiting forum) that distracts people from going out and doing things! Perhaps I don't live up to my current motto in the footer "Be both a speaker of words and a doer of deeds. -- Homer", perhaps there are Kiters in Stockholm, but I haven't found them?
Actually, this is the first account I see for someone starting out as a "quaddie" and then turns dual. I appreciate this kind of "soft knowledge" (also) that you can't get from a manual/instruction.
Hmm... curiosity is kind of a interest to.
I flew both before my stroke, but fly almost exclusively on Revs now. My timing was based on visuals as much as anything, that is gone. Revs give me a solid picture to see and the team aspect has become one of the things that really drew me into , and keeps involved, with flying. I love the social aspect, being able to fly with my friends, having a team too! Or teams!! It's fun to just get a bunch of fliers together, figure out an order, and just fly!!
Read - yes, but the kite to the left Does look like a F/V - AND THAT MAKES IT WORSE!! It would be one thing to have uneven bend in the SAME sail, but WORSE if indeed the sail was a F/V next to several mids!
John's at a clinic - maybe he can clear this up later tonight!
