  25. Hi Michael, In Cervia I met you and other kite fliers from the Drachenforum, it has been a great pleasure! During the festival I spent most of time in the STACK area, so when I met John the last day the Gaze was already packed to go back to the United States. Thank you !

  29. Sure, well I actually still remember my first experience with kites. It was on a summervacation in norway where I tried to fly a oneliner but it wasnt stable enough. Then someone else on the camping fixed it by adding a tail. From that moment I was hooked untill around puberty where different interests came in. That is until recently we got a work trip to the beach and one of the activities was powerkiting. So that got me back into kiting again. Doing some research about what kites are available I stumbled across these 4line stuntkites and I was immediatly sold. So today my first 4liner came in so I hope to get a lot of fun with it!

  33. Kites and lines no problem (Depending on size restrictions. Stakes will cause issues and should be checked (or buy a cheap screwdriver when you arrive) Quad Handles MAY bear further inspection due to the weapon-like shape.. Short version. Most things OK but check or leave the stake behind.

  34. Just had my first session on the new Gaze STD a couple days ago! Designed by Naoki Tamura; world champion Team Air-Rex and Flying Wings, I like it so much that I've decided to add it to the catalog at Kite Forge - first outside design I've been inspired enough to offer through that channel. ❤️🔥 Stay tuned for more info on this full size precision and trick all rounder, under $300.

  43. A stall would precede mostly anything.....not just any stall but a good pasted to the sky stall. Still though, after decades being more of an old skool flier, the first “trick” I learned was and still is the best......how to crash very gently...;) bt

  44. Here is some more at Tweelijners. A set of descriptions (including some flight properties and history) and plans of the Belgian kites (Le Quartz, Horizon, L' Organic, Temppu Leija, B'zar and Le Vortex) can be found at: http://www.tweelijners.com/Kites_from_Belgium/start.html No, no building for me as it looks like today - that would take the time I have/take for flying (and I never had a sewing machine anyway). However some dreaming now and then is an available option and is also free of charge. There is a video of these kites, "Le grand Organic à la plage", that I like much. It is playful, artistic, shows nice coastal views, good flying and seems to be filmed with high quality gear and is well edited. Don't watch this on your mobile since the mood of it might not be conveyed! See and listen in front of a decent monitor and give it your attention during it's full 8:27 minutes!:

  45. After several Chat discussions with other Kite Life members I was encouraged to share the following information: Carbon Tube Deflection and Weight Comparisons I have created my own standard method for measuring stiffness-to-weight ratios for carbon tubing commonly used for sport kite construction for my own personal use as a kite builder and hopefully this information will be helpful to others who would like to build or mod their own frames. In this report you will see how my testing of a group of commercially available tubes compare against this standard. Any frame material can potentially be compared using this test. Test Definition: A deflection test has been defined to measure the standard deflection of a 62“ length of carbon tubing suspended with a fulcrum at it’s center-point, 31”. This length was chosen for convenience since it represents the length of two standard revolution 1.5/B-Pro spars. A 1 pound weight is suspended against a 62” length of tubing. A fulcrum is placed at the center of the length to suspend the tube vertically; a loose or permanent ferrule is used to connect multiple sections of tubing and is placed in the center for the measurement to create the 62” length. The 1 pound weight is suspended with 37” of line on each end of the 62” length forming a triangle with 37” sides. A second line is then attached to each end of the 62” length of the tube being measured to create a parallel line beneath the bow that is created by the weight. The distance from the center of the tube to this line is then measured. The weight of the tubing is calculated without ferrules. This defines the nominal weight of the tube in g/in. SU1: Stiffness units (version 1 is where the 1 comes from in SU1) are defined by the amount of deflection at the centerline of the 62” bow and are in units of inches. W: is the weight of the tubing sample used in g/in. This is a measurement of the tube without a ferrule. These results are the average of several tubes. SU1/W: represents a stiffness-to-weight ratio and can be used to compare other tube materials. This becomes the standard for comparison in my chart and the chart is sorted from the highest value to the lowest value. A high value means that the tube will weigh less but be less stiff (more deflection). A low value means that a tube will perhaps weigh more but be more stiff (not deflect as easily). For frame weight comparisons, nominal weights were calculated for a Rev 1.5/B-pro frame and a Rev B-2 frame. Nominal weight values do not include the weight of ferrules or adhesives. Note: m2 stands for measurement of a second group of tubes. in case the picture can't be enlarged, here is the chart again in text format: Rod SU1 W g/in SU1/W Rev 1.5 Nom. Frame wt g Rev B2 Nom. 47. Okay, I've got it now. I have done this before, but without the "lock" wraps. I understand how that is better than just wrapping back and forth. I did it for a while, but didn't like the semi-permanent impressions the strands of line put into the foam on the handles. I found them annoying as I was flying. I am back to using the winder, wrapping all four lines at once. I tire quickly nowadays, so I avoid the second trip out to the kite. I stake the handles down at the flying end and take the kite with me, still rolled up, as I unwrap the lines. Then I set up the kite and attach the lines, go back to the handles and fly.
