  5. Hi guys, As you've probably seen, I've been doing TONS of work on this part of the site... 1. New magazine archives. 2. New navigation menu. 3. Contact page on forum. 4. Refined home page sidebar. Coming very soon, a video archival for our members - more or less like our sister site (KiteVids.com), folks will be able to embed videos (from YouTube, etc) in a dedicated area of this site and list them by category... For each video added, a corresponding and cross-linked discussion topic will automatically be added to an appropriate part of the forum. We really loved the idea of KiteVids.com, but the commonly available video hosting platforms have a LONG way to go and KiteVids.com is actually no longer functional for people who want to add new content... So we need something that actually works, and again - another step toward bringing everything under a one roof (as well as a single search engine and login for everything). ** Any major critique thus far? ** ** Any praise for things you like? ** I'm really happy with the direction we're headed, but I think you know by now, I am genuinely interested in your feedback, always. Also, it's never expected, but in light of the significant workload on this end, expenses for these improvements, and no measurable increase to our revenue (which keeps the lights on), if you'd like to help make our improvement efforts easier, we always welcome donations - easy link found here (big "click to donate" button top of that page). Thanks for your comments, your support (moral or financial), and for being a part of Kitelife in general!
  6. Tony, just to confirm a rule of thumb for folks who might want to experiment with MKF... 1. The longer the handles, the more responsive and potentially twitchy the kites will be. 2. The shorter the handles, the less responsive and more predictable. Would you say this is true?
  7. As you might have seen already, issue #2 (May '98) has been converted and is now available for viewing in the new format. http://kitelife.com/forum/forum/138-2-may-98/ My layout is getting better as I do more and more articles this way, especially as the image shape/sizes become more uniform, I like it a lot! Be sure to rate and "like" your favorite articles, and of course, you are most welcome to comment on them as well. Reminder again - any posts on the magazine articles should be on topic, and relevant to the respective content.
  8. Almost exactly what I tell first time inquirers out on the field, well said!
  9. Right on the money about "sagging" handles Ben, it's a typical reflex for newbies after launching... Thumbs back (evenly) to go forward, as Wayne said. Also, I'd suggest you watch as many "pro" videos as possible, the ones showing hand movement and body stance in particular. There is no one "right" way to fly, but you'll see consistent tendencies among the best pilots. FYI, De'One's page on Facebook - http://www.facebook.com/pages/DeOneSg/123892997697367
  10. Whaaaa, that's wicked Mick! Nice one, the Micron really hauls butt, eh?
  11. Also Ben, I need ask - have you connected with other Rev fliers in your area? I was there twice this year, and there are TONS of Rev fliers, some of them are quite good. Especially, I'd suggest the D1 field at East Coast Park... The De'One family is very friendly and helpful, good friends of mine.
  12. http://kitelife.com/forum/files/file/685-rev-tutorial-line-equalizing/ http://kitelife.com/forum/files/file/700-rev-tutorial-body-posture-and-grip/ Part of this too, is perspective... When you launch, it's kind of like riding a bike... 1. SEE where you want to go, imagine the kite going there. 2. If it starts to go the wrong way, apply a *little* input to go the other way, better too little than too much when learning. Agreed, always ENJOY it... It's a learning process, but don't stress too much - it is supposed to be fun.
  13. Benjy, it should also be asked... What model of Rev are you flying? And, are you using the adjustable leaders on the top of your handle? These two details will help us diagnose a little more accurately. == By the way, I just noticed I hadn't validated your subscription payment... It's done now. You're on our master list so you were included in the prize drawings, you just couldn't access the downloads. Sorry about that!

  16. Mighty cool of you Chris, noted.
  17. Hi Lisa, welcome to the forum.
  18. Ah, forgot to say... Some of the authors are inaccessible (either from passing on or leaving kiting), messages to those folks are set to bounce back. Eventually, I'd love to see a few of them come back to read what folks have to share in response to their articles.
  19. Jump back to the home page, and you'll now see " Kitelife Magazine (The E'Zine) " as the first section on the index! In there, you'll see the very first issue of Kitelife (#1 - Apr '98"), ready for YOUR viewing and enjoyment. == Granted, it's not as "pretty" as what you've gotten used to with the light/dark templates of our current main site... But it's pretty darned clean, and you can now interact with the content, share it, add thoughts or debate, etc. Also, I think you'll be tickled at how much more responsive the search engine is with regard to magazine content. Last point of attention for now, note the "Similar Topics" section below each forum thread... 5, at random. == The search engine, tags and similar topics will get more and more accurate as the content gets loaded in. == I'm still getting a handle on formatting the article layouts in a way that works well on the forum, but I think it's a good start. == Please... DO SHARE YOUR FEEDBACK AND SUGGESTIONS on the new format, RIGHT HERE, I want to hear it! Any posts on the magazine articles should be on topic, and relevant to the respective content. Respect the authors!
  20. Congrats photomom (and family)!
  21. Cool, got 'em both approved on KiteMap, thanks Dano! As for groupies... Try hip hop.
  22. I'm working up a "dummy" of issue #1 in the forum for folks to look at and test drive for themselves. Just having done the first article, I'm STOKED with the ease of it on my end. The search engine turns it up right away, and I can TAG topics (articles) with appropriate references. Although it's hidden from view for you guys right now, it appears as the FIRST forum section "Kitelife Archives (The E'Zine)". Under that, there is "#1 - Apr '98"... Pretty cut and dry. Folks can comment directly into the articles, "follow" anything of interest (to be notified of replies), follow tags (like the ones below the name of the topic we're in now), etc. All photos still pop up in a lightbox, allowing for easy "next" and "previous" slideshow action. == As far as the magazine "no longer being in the front"... I'd argue that it's not really in the front NOW, as folks still have to drill 2-3 levels. Simply, instead of seeing the current Kitelife home page, they'd get the forum index (includes the magazine listings), complete with sliding gallery and all necessary links. == Anyway, I'm rambling... I still want to hear your thoughts as they arise. In the meantime, I'll try to finish up the "dummy" first issue so y'all can get a look at it.
  23. Thanks for sharing this... What were you flying? And, any chance you'd be up for adding it to www.kitemap.org with a disclaimer about the field space and conditions?
  24. I'm looking into doing a 4-hour INDOOR CLINIC here in Portland on either Nov 12th or 13th (Sat or Sun).

Not sure if I can get the space yet, but if so, we'd be looking at a max of six students and $25 registration. If I can pull this together, anyone interested? Must have at least 4 committed before I can go ahead.

Topics - dual line, quad line, whatever floats your boat, I can try to help!

    Location - North Portland
