  1. Well, the wife is doing better and she gave me some time to test the Kymera. It's amazing. The winds in my "local" field (15 miles away) are pretty sketchy, bit I was able to fly it immediately. The kite lifted off in some pretty light winds and I was able to ffly patterns pretty easily. I even did, after a couple of tries, a barrel roll and recovered from it. I have NEVER done that trick with any kite before, but the Kymera did it on my first day. I really like it. And the kite itself as well as the bag it comes in really say "quality". The only issue was that the tension loops at the end of the leading edge spar kept coming off. I found that wrapping the tension loop around itself helped a lot. I did, however, watch John B's video on how to assemble the kite and I'm glad I did because those tension loops are tricky. So after one outing I love it. I can't see myself flying my old Fire Dart any more. The Kymera is just too nice.
  2. It's Here! But why am I here at home instead of work? It's because my wife had a bought of Diverticulitis and we were in the emergency room at 3am this morning. So I'm staying home with her and trying to get some work done remotely. Now I have to stare at this beautiful kite and the wind outside and wait some more. But that's fine. She's much more important to me.
  3. Another petition? How am I supposed to remember al the things I'm banned from doing? It's like that time I was kicked out of that Dodgers baseball game just because I "didn't have a ticket" and "wasn't wearing pants".
  4. I bought the Kymera kite that Brigenlonger (I hope I didn't botch the name too badly) had for sale in the kite for sale/ WTB section of the forum. He sent it via 2nd day priority mail ( awesome). It was in Indianapolis on Friday night, and was in West Sacramento at 5:39 am yesterday morning. We just had a good size storm come through so I had high hopes for good winds and a new kite. West Sacramento is just 45 miles away. The tracker says it's out for delivery. But alas, it didn't arrive yesterday. I'll have to wait patiently until after work tomorrow. I tried to fly my ancient Fire Dart by Action Kites today. What a dog that kite is. I'm guessing that kites have change quite a bit since I bought the dart over 25 years ago. I hope I'll find out tomorrow.
  5. You wouldn't be happy with the color. Tell you what, In order to keep you from feeling disappointed about the color, I'll have it shipped directly to my house if you win. I'm just that kind of caring, giving guy. You're welcome.
  6. This is awesome. I sew a lot of my own backpacking gear so I'd love to try making a kite.
  7. As a software engineer with over 20years in the business I would like to offer to create a random number generator which totally wouldn't give me an advantage. You can trust me. Just because I've wanted a Rev for over 20 years doesn't mean I would manipulate the data. You can totally trust me.
  8. Excellent Point! I found a soccer field in Auburn Ca just about 15 miles away from my house. The wind was blowing up in the parking lot but it was slow and changing directions on the field. I did get my 20 year old Action Kite "Dart" up in the air and it felt just like I remembered it, slow and sluggish. I moved the bridle point up about an inch to point the nose into the wind a bit more and that helped. At least I got out and flew for the first time in, . . . what . . . maybe 15 years? I certainly haven't flown since moving up here to the mountains. As I was winding up the line I noticed something. The sticker on my winder said "Sport Lines. 90' 150# " What the heck am I doing using 150# line in light wind? No wonder it's sluggish. But that's the only line set I have. So I just ordered a set of 50# lines at 90' long. Now let's see what that old kite can do. And just to show how obsessive I've become, I just bought the Kymera that Brilongenecker had on sale in the "Kites for sale or trade" section. He's including a set of lines as well so I should be well set up when that arrives. I do have to say, even though I haven't flown in over a decade it all came back to me. Even though I was just sliding the kite back and forth doing the occasional loop and testing the wind window it all felt very natural. Wow, what a blast.
  9. Has anyone flown in the Sacramento area? I live about 50 miles up the hill in the woods where trees block everything. I'm looking at Google maps and wondering if there can be good flying conditions in places like: Discovery Park (looks like it may have lots of trees) Del Paso Park (Trees again) Sutter's Landing Regional Park (On Google Maps it looks brown and barren, but very open) Maidu Park (looks promising) I'd appreciate any local knowledge you may have. 10. Hi Folks: I'm Greg and I'm new here. Allow me to introduce myself. I grew up in Lakewood California and have many fond memories of flying a traditional paper kite in a field near my house. That field is now a parking lot but I remember flying my paper pirate kite so high I could barely see it. We moved to Huntington Beach and as I got older I often flew my no-name stack of three dual line stunt kites on the beach there after work. In my late 20's I moved to San Diego where I would fly kites down at Mission Bay. Little did I know that I have lived and flown at two of the most popular kite site in Southern California. At some point I acquired a Dart dual line kite from Action Kites in Sorrento Valley near San Diego (which I still have). That was over 20 years ago and I think it was an older kite even then. It looks like a modern kite with whiskers (stays) but I've always thought it felt slow and cumbersome. This may be because I've been flying that tiny 18" wing span 3-stack for so long. About ten years ago my wife and I moved to the foothills of the Sierra mountains. We love it up here but somehow I seem to have forgotten about kiting entirely. Well, a couple of weeks ago my step-grand daughter got a single line dragon kite for her birthday so I took out to her school field to fly it. I also dug my old Action kite out of the garage to try it. That's when I realized our problem. Trees. Wow, I love living in the mountains surrounded by pines and oaks. I love being 10 minutes away from a river where I can go fly fishing, In an hour I can be backpacking at 7000 feet elevation in the Sierras and in 2 hours I can be at Lake Tahoe. But those trees are everywhere. I can't find anywhere with a clear breeze and open space to fly. I work down in Folsom which is the lowlands so I've been scouring Google maps trying to find a spot where I could launch my kite. The bug has bitten me again but I can't seem to find a place to fly. I'll just have to go exploring. I've always wanted to get a quad line kite. When I stopped flying about 20 years ago an Axel was a big trick for dual line kites. I can't believe all the stuff people can do today. I think a new, better kite will appear in my near future. If only I can find a place to fly it. So here we are today. I've got my 2 decade old Dart and my little 3 stack has vanished in one of the many moves I've done in that time. But I still remember those days of hanging out on the beach flying patterns in the sky with my little 3 stack and I'd like to try doing that again. Greg Brouelette
