  1. I make my own for the most part. Pre-made linesets in my bag came with kite purchases.. The more recent runs of Skybond don't seem as durable as the previous runs. I hear more stories of fraying, "fuzziness" and stickiness than ever before. That being said, LPG and Skybond are both still great choices in my opinion. I also fly a few kites with Dyneema and even blendline but not when I'm sharing a field with others. FWIW, Skybond and LPG are always in my bag.. I also have some other stuff not appropriate to fly around others but it was rock solid in a pinch. My 240's are Skybond. 120's in both Skybond and LPG. It gets pretty varied form there at least in my line bag.

@Just FlyinThank you and not quite, but I really do get a lot of enjoyment from making them..
  3. First welcome to the Dark side.. Welcome to kitelife.. And most of all WELCOME!!! Watch JB's tutorials and enjoy the fun.. don't forget to breathe.. You'll get the hang of it..
  4. Three Diamond Kites are complete and ready to fly..
  5. @khsidekick It's a baseline for a Vicki type build.... Something else to experiment with..

    Icarex

@ACrop You are absolutely correct.. The colors are "balanced" but not symmetrical.. The build process involves cutting the strips and swapping every other one between halves. Coincidentally, the build process also ignores front and back side of the material. It's also that same non-symmetry that makes the center section a bit more challenging since I have to add an additional color there to avoid two of the same color edge to edge.. To make a symmetrical sail, I have to make two (or four) and swap halves once they are all basted.
  7. @T in WI Received today in PERFECT condition.. Thank you..

    Purple Fade

    From the album: Riffclown's Homemades

This kite personality changes completely when backlit.. Without the back-light this kite is actually quite a dark kite.

Offset the center triangle to minimize waste materail along the leading edge.

  12. Added Leading Edges to Scrapestry and Purple Fade this morning..Touch of Blue Leading Edge was done last week and posted. Sunset fade MIGHT be taking a different route to leave more camber and sail area. It may end up being more of a light wind kite for me..In short, there's a bit of sail there that is "extra" and I'm deciding if I want to leave it oversize or trim it down to standard 1.5 dimensions.

  17. Absolutely.. this is an event I try to make each year..
  18. It's been a whiles since I added any entries to the blog but it not for lack of sewing kites. After Jester II I decided it was time for some new color chemes AND new fabric.. 22 YArds of Icarex in Black White, Silver and Gray followed soon after.. I decided to take a chance and make an offer on the scrap bin and received a good bit of the full spectrum of colors..A full sunset fade was the first endeavor followed closely by purple fade with several different shades of purple A touch of blue was commissioned by a friend and what color was left went into a true color quilt I call Scrapestry.. I PLAN for all of these kites to get first flight at the Rogallo festival at Jockeys Ridge, Nags Head NC in just over a week. Still a ways to go but Leading edges are made and the panel sewing is all done except for the center panel section of Scrapestry.. Hopefully there will be video soon..
  19. If you are recording from a static perspective I'd recommend the Vivitar Lifecam on a budget.. $30 at Amazon right now. Great little camera if the camera is stationary. No image stabilization is the only real shortcoming.. https://smile.amazon.com/Vivitar-DVR936HD-BLK-INT-LifeCam-Wearable-Camcorder/dp/B00UCBDNY2/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1528406660&sr=8-3&keywords=vivitar+lifecam+with+built-in+wi-fi
