  1. Everything is still way oversized at the moment but both panels are basted.. Need to decide on stripe backing material to make the light sleeves. The lime is gone. That was all of it..
  2. Velcro for now but considering the zipper type enclosure for ziplock bags.. Light and easily adapted..
  3. I've decided to take all of the perspective kites (Except for The Jester) and finish the individual panels.. I'll mix and match those to make 5 or six kites (maybe even 7) and fly as a stack for a bit.. By finishing them all at once I can ensure they are identically sized and with same aspect ratios. So the panels will progress but no finished kites until I'm ready to finish them all. This was the strategy for the Spectrum Stack and it worked well for me.. Otherwise I tend to have slightly different sizes and aspect ratios. Keep in mind I don't use a pattern and these kites don't have a fixed size except for LE length.. While this makes for great kites to explore flying characteristics, it's not a good thing for stacking those same sails.. More to follow on perspective soon.. Have to wait for some more materials to get here.
  4. Welcome to my world. Don't be afraid to make the cuts and press forward.. those moments of indecision turn easily into days. Have fun with the whole process..
  5. Just laying out the panels for now.. The Lime strips will be backed to allow light strips to be inserted.. Will even up the stripes for sure on panel assembly to give 1.25"-ish wide strips.. Due to all of the weight for the light assemblies, I'll be minimizing weight everywhere else that I can. LE will be Yellow 1.5 Ripstop. Planning for seal-able pockets on the center panel to hold battery packs.
  6. Extremely Well Said. We need someone to spend the week with us flying some Symphonies. The recent video has me pretty stoked. Make even me want to fly some team. Right now I know of four of the 2.2.4 owners and a total of 8 of the kites making the trip. (I'll have extras of course)
  7. Kiting is a great community of friends you might not have met yet. @Kansas Flier, it was great connecting with you this evening and thanks for showing me around your hometown.
  8. there wil at least 5 symphonies in Corolla in April.. hmmmmmmm
  9. Can and will are two entirely different chains of thought. possible to do very extensive piecing but boyond a certain point you've impacted performance by adding weight. (thread, basting materials and simply doubling fabric layers.) Panel count increases feel and touch but also adds weight. Let me put it this way. IF I go progressive, it will be progressively vented, not progressively sized. I' ll make a 100 panel sail at some point but the sweet spot seems to be closer to half of that.
  10. This made my entire week. Thank you for showcasing the 2.2.4 in such an excellent fashion. Extremely well done TKL
  11. Still thinking progressive isn't happening..The 100 panel on the drawing was a bit too fine in the practical detail.. Actual results were 70 panels..
  12. Stack, yes probably . Progressive stack, not sure yet...
  13. @Nekoshi Nice work.. That's great progress in a short amount of time. As with most things in life, the more you put into it, the more you will get out of it.. Keep up the great work..
  14. @makatakam OK.. Build in progress.. I intentionally shifted the one line opposite to put me on track for center panel/line up.
  15. Yeah, no chance at all for me..
  16. @esinger It's an open offer.. you already know how to contact me so just let me know..
  17. I think I've decided to go with Complimentary sails for both efforts.. I have more fabric and can re-explore all the efforts maybe. Should be enough fabric left for anywhere between 4-8 kites before I pick new colors to explore...
  18. I'm really surprised there hasn't been more movement for this.. Extremely rare opportunity..
  19. @John Barresi Any chance of pics and vid from SPI??? I know you didn't leave them home...
  20. From the album: Riffclown's Homemades

Different panel options using the royal blue and orange ripstop I have on hand.. Top kite is The Jester and has been completed now.. All others are just layouts and under some form of construction at this time.. Only one of the bottom 3 will be built, but the other panels will still make one more kite after that..
  21. Confess you know you aren't surprised. Half of "Jest Checking in" with layout half of "Jest Checkmate". Time for decisions.. This version ended up being 65 panels. Left half is not basted. Thoughts??
  22. I'm good for now.. Thanks//
  23. Thank you.. one of the reasons for taking a step back break is to explore options.. Until I sew, trim to dimensions and edge bind, I still have options. Nothing is final until the LE is attached.. FWIW, I also still have the reciprocal piece from this sail available. I could do left side checking in and right side checkmate. Yes, making is almost as addictive as flying.. and regardless of weather, you only have to wait for time..
  24. I had someone point out panel alignment issues based on the picture of me holding the panels up.. I fully acknowledge it isn't perfect and close inspection on any of my kites will yield similar "perspectives" Backlit from 6 ft away, those issues all but disappear. It's not perfect but the effect I'm going for isn't lost either. I guess, please keep in mind that I also minimize waste as much as possible.. I start with two big triangles and splice them down to get the look I want. Taking a week off from the sewing machine.. More to come soon..
