To learn the dive stop is really just to train your brain to tell your hands to hit the brakes as the kite is zooming forward toward the ground.
Best advice I got for learning the divestop, is to start about "3 mistakes up".

No, he was travelling with wife, dogs, and car in tow, so no time. Sounds like he has a good group up in Canada to fly with though.
We're all crazy up here too. Come visit. Bring us presents. Actually, bring kites, with the shipping and the exchange rate, they're probably cheaper too.

You're right on there, I've been down there a few times and was treated extremely well. A couple of members of the Island Quad team (Terry & Mario) were/are very generous with their time and helped me a great deal in deciding which direction to go for my first Rev....which will arrive soon. Great community!
Funny. My first flight was on Terry's rev with the busted mesh.
Once I got my rev, and went out for the first time, another local flier (Martin) gave me tips too, though the wind was too crappy to get going. The time after that, yet another local gave me tips on setup and flying with my own kite. Everyone is awesome there.

@ronb If you are near Clover Point, there are people flying revs most weekends when the wind is blowing. Most would be happy to chat and give advice, and some would like let you take the reins for a while.
My first flight with a Rev was on someone else's Rev at Clover Pt and I was hooked. I was even given an hour lesson on flying it.

Oh, you finally found my kite. Just send it out this way before these other jokers think they lost theirs too.

We should send a copy of the basic info on getting airborne for the first time to Revolution Kites and tell them to put a copy in the sleeve with EVERY kite they make and sell.
My B series standard came with an instruction sheet, and a "how to fly DVD" featuring JB. The sound and video quality were quite poor, but you got the general idea of how to get it going.

I tried using the coupon, and it says Coupon Expired.

I follow JB's method, but lately I am always ending up with one line from one side wrapped around the other pair. So i end up having to loop a handle through one side to unsnarl my line.

And after reading this, it occurred to me why this is happening. I am allowing the handles to rotate as I pick them up, and they're probably feeding through each other or getting tangled there.

Looks like you're hauling a water cooler.

I've found https://goodwinds.com/ has some pretty good prices for kite line and the bits required to make lineset. Check the clearance section for even cheaper prices.
That said, I've never ordered from them, or had any experience making linesets. Anyone dealt with them?

The end caps go inside the rod.
Oh. I guess I didn't realise how big the SLE rods are.

What is the purpose of the rubber washer?

Oh, I wasn't under the impression that was his first flight at all.
I just love his videos. I find them well put together and inspiring. And I'm judging my quad progress only against myself and what I skills I set out for myself to do. And backwards isn't so hard
Actually, the pilot is @Flynhi

I'll definitely move it out a notch. It launches easily, so stepping back won't be an issue.
I've heard of that 'ball' concept. It's a good one to keep in mind.

Let me clarify:
I have a B with stock leaders with 6 knots on top, 2 on the bottom. I currently have my top knot set to the 3rd in, and the bottom full out. On this setting, my kite feels like it accelerates very quickly and I don't have to work much to get it to move forward.
Daougie has an SLE with stock no-knot leaders. His kite felt like i had to work to keep it moving forward.
I found it much easier to kept some hovers going on the SLE, but mostly because it wasn't launching when I tried to stop it. And I just need more practice, and a knot change. I also have a set of John's leader in the mail.
-
Hey, it was a pleasure meeting you and trying out your Rev.
I still think the lack of a proper set of adjustable leaders makes your Rev feel super brake heavy. Mine felt like a rocket in comparison, and I'm probably going to adjust them for a slightly more brake heavy setting.
After flying your rev, I finally managed to get that left facing hover on mine. Though it still shot off into space when I tried to flip from right to left.

Upon the recommendation of several of you, I ended up ordering the Prism Quantum.
Wonderful kite. What colour did you get?
Including me, there are 4 people with Fire Quantums where I fly, and no-one flies the Citrus or Blue.- 1

I'm at the top of the learning cliff and looking down, just like you. I see from the picture you posted that you fly at Clover Point. I fly there Tuesday and Thursday nights (5:15 to hunger) When do you fly?
I am indeed at flying at Clover Pt.
I fly whenever I can get time and there's wind. But therein lies the challenge. Generally I try to get out on a weekend at minimum, but never any set time. If I head out Tuesday or Thursday, I'll keep an eye out for you.
