  1. An experienced dual line kite flyer friend of mine kept telling me a long time ago that the Beetle was a very good flying kite, and that I should get one. So when I got the chance, I bought a used Beetle 2100+ off of craigslist for $20 USD. It is one of my favorite kites. Tracks really well. Has a good line feel, but doesn't pull too hard. Very predictable and responsive to line inputs which is very useful to recover from a mistake before crashing. Really surprised how much I like this kite. Everyone else that has tried it likes it well also.

  6. No I haven't bought one yet. I was concerned about the flight characteristics because the person who helped design the upgrades is pretty much a dedicated freestyle flier, and I am not. I prefer directional flying. I still might buy one though because I like the purple color, plus it has a polyester sail and is supposedly the same shape as the NG, so if I don't like the way it flies compared to the NG, I could probably put an NG bridle on it. I did buy an extra yellow Widow NG though since they are being discontinued and I like mine, and continue to use it and abuse it.
  7. I am debating between the ul and the standard. Not alot of info out there about how it flies compared to the Widow NG.
  8. Just wondered if anyone has tried a Widow pro classic or Widow pro classic UL, and what they thought about the flight characteristics.
  9. I am not in the kite business or industry, but by using some common sense It appears to me that kiting for most people is just a hobby. Meaning that there are not many opportunities for it to become a main full time occupation that large numbers of people can make a living wage off of. For it to evolve into more of a viable profession to drive interest and involvement over time, there has to be a substantial number of financial opportunities for people to make a good living off of being in the kite industry. With many things that are competing for peoples time, energy, and money, hobbies are one of the first things to go when life's necessities dictates. Now if kite flying offered a large number of people a way to afford to live and have a career, logically that would drive kite flying beyond a hobby, and into a viable profession. Where there is money to be made, people will want to be involved. Plus where people may not have the time or money to participate in a hobby as everything becomes more expensive and they have to sacrifice hobbies, flying kites as a profession might carry the activity on. Other successful sports are models for how to accomplish this, so it is not a secret. The question is would people in the kite flying community want their niche hobby to become a big money commercialized sport if it was possible? My guess is that the answer to that question is why things are how they currently are.
  10. I would probably like the Hugo and Veyron if they weren't too light on the lines. I like some pull so I can feel the kite. Doesn't much matter because there are plenty of kite options in the US and I will probably never see a Hugo or Veyron around.
  11. If you don't mind me asking, why did you get rid of them?
  12. Thats where i found out about it. Indeed it does look good. I have never seen or heard of one anywhere else.
  13. I figured someone had tried one. Read good things about the Hugo as well.
  14. Just wondering if anyone here has one, or has ever flown a DiamondKites Veyron, and if so what they thought about it. I thought it was a cool looking kite.
  15. I have wondered about the kachoo myself for outdoor sul wind.
  16. I see. One of the best quality built kites if not the best, smaller hand movements than the mamba, and pretty much a dedicated trick kite. It is certainly a good looking kite.
  17. How would a deep space compare to a mamba as far as straight line tracking and snap turn pattern Flying? i am interested in buying a deep space but have read that it is really trick oriented and twitchy, and is difficult to fly for less experienced people.
  18. I see. Thought you were talking about the OSK branded line. I might buy one of their 50# line sets. Andy at OSK talks up their premium LSL high modulus compressed coated lines. I like the skybond coated 100# lines but heard about their 50# not being that great.
  19. Did you buy the OSKUSA LSL high modulus compressed and coated dual line set, or the cheap budget set?
  20. Ok, but it sounds like Paul was talking about the knots being tied on a single strand of kite line. so the line wouldn't be looped back on itself creating a pigtail on the end of the line. So it sounds like his kite line terminates with 3 figure of 8 knots in a single unsleeved line. In that case, I don't see the point of having 3 knots at the end of the line if they aren't to hold the line looped back onto itself. Especially if a person was concerned about snagging. Seems like just one knot at the very end would make more sense. Wouldn't a standard sleeved and looped termination with one knot would be less prone to snagging then 3 knots spread out down the line? Hard for me to imagine how a sleeved loop termination would snag any more on the lines than the knots on the bridle would.
  21. Ok I see. Tension from the larks head goes on the knot instead of the end of the loop. Interesting. But it is still looks fully sleeved, not just bare line. Figure of 8 knots are good, I used them in rock climbing all of the time. Thanks for the pics.
  22. I can't visualize it. Wish I could. But it sounds different than what Flying Smile told me they normally do on dual line sets.
