  1. 1+ on this, I was having difficulty with my full vent at quad clinic. Had John fly it and he immediately went to my lower right bridle that had an extra 2-3 knots looped in. Bought the kite used, so don't if it was my fault or knot, but fixed the issue. Get TK leaders, I usually  fly on the first knot in, but I fly really  brake heavy. Ive had other flyers not be able to fly on my tuning. YMMV.

My PoloVTD has the centres vented. It creates a very different feel. I can't generate the whump but at the winds I use it at, above 30-40km/h, it doesn't really affect me. I have found that it is more stable inverted than my B Series. The frame doesn't flex under load as much either.

When I went to quad clinic John had me swap out the 4 wrap in my full vent to a 3 wrap to make it cup more and accelerate faster to keep up with the Djinns during team flying. Seemed counterintuitive at the time,, but worked. His sail loading and tuning videos are now the most helpful. Things flesh out in team that you don't see when flying solo.

  3. Another great video. Counted 31 axles in a 2 min. video, wtf! Can you do a new video for axles. I'm confused about which hand to pop out of a inverted slide/ dive stop? Thought I had them before quad clinic. But when you told me I was doing them offhand/ backhand my mind hasn't caught up.

I've launched a canoe off one of those docks with the Willamette paddle trail people at a conference. Near OMSI? Awesome urban flying spot. I feel like I've reached a plateau in my flying,  were I'm only improving if I'm in beach winds. If I'm inland flying I'm only knocking  the rust off. This video gave me a new skill to work on. I hnow i already do it subconsciously,  but deliberately practicing it will help.

Flys normal, I bought a classic as my first Rev. I didn't know anything about Revs or Jon's history with them. Although I had met him and already owned a kymerra. I also picked up a reflex spider "thanks riff". But I rarely have a need for that much venting. Probably going to sell it and pick up a mid vent.

Sold the spider and built a mesh and bought  a mid vent. Love the mesh ,but it doesn't  catch and throw like the mid. The spider has to much venting in the center. Rev doesn't  have any idea of how to vent a kite. You need sail area  in the center and vent the edges. They failed on the spider and probably did it again on the tarantula. Why would you take a low wind kite and vent the center.

The "Classic" is a later 1.5 version that added Springs to the B-series design. The panel layout is exactly the same.  They were marketed mid to late 2017 as the replacement for the B-Series which they were no longer producing as of 1-1-2017. They added Springs and stopped including the extra frame with it.

As a side note. I just visited Rev's website and noticed they no longer "offer" the Classic.

Riff is exactly correct on this, I ordered a mid vent that drop shipped from Rev through A wind of change. 200$ sail only, still a bargain for a proven sail. The newer ones have springs that are easier to remove and throw in the trash. http://www.awindofchange.com/product/rev-1-5-classic.html  There are better options out there today, but there much more expensive.  All my new sails will be from Kite Forge.  I think I'll let John sell out his current inventory at Long Beach then order a full sail and mid vent.

  6. Just ditch the reflex spings, that's what I've done. They aren't needed and seem to be causing breaks. I used to think I was hard on a kite when I was learning, but now that I'm fairly good, I'm even harder on them. Most of my flying is traveling bicycle purposely tap a Le cap, bicycle tap Le cap, bicycle tap both lower vertical caps, fly to the top pull for a catch, throw and repeat. I've never broken a stick.  Granted if I'm flogging a kite that hard it has a 3 wrap in it, but I've also beat aP90 frame way beyond what it should've taken. Maybe I'm lucky or I have decent skills but I'm starting to wear out the caps on my full sail and starting to fly my mid vent most of the time. Inland winds whomp up the mid and make it fly. I think Rev is having issues with their rods lately, but my mid is classic w/ the reflex labeled rods. Are you flying an RX?

  7. Thanks for the replys, I'll be fixing this one myself. Already have the grossgrain from kite bag projects. Probably zigzag a stitch over the torn spots then add the tabs. I would like to cover the lower bungis as well. Did a Riff inspired triangle pocket on my 2 sized sail and that works great.

Question for Paul, to tighten up the leading edge sleeve, do you assemble the leading edge and run a straight stitch with the needle in right position, presser foot running next to the rod?  My 1.5 sul could realy use this mod as well. Could be an awkward seam to sew.

  8. So I got this trick so dialed that I started to catch it with my left hand while holding the handles in the same hand. Just reach  out your index finger and catch it. To bad that pokes your handles through the mesh. All good fun and visibly impressive, but it really destroys your leading edge mesh. Just noticed my grey fade full sail has 8-10 inchs of the mesh torn away. Time for some leading edge reinforcements and an extra straight stitch along  the trailing edge is next. Guess I'll really  beef it  up and make this my street sail. This is my first rev and lasťed a noob 9 months of flailing  and learning.  But all sails after this will be from Kite Forge.

  9. Haven't been there in 10- 20  years. But attended  Iowa state university and we used to sail minifish at Saylorville lake. Potentially good winds at some grassy parks on the Se side of the reservoir? Funny how they spelled "sailor" wrong. People in Iowa don't  know the difference between a lake and a reservoir.

  10. Link doesn't seem to work. Might need to make it viewable to the public. I flew with a friend on the beachs on the S.E. side of Wickiup reservoir on Sat. South of the dam.  Had great wind, several kite boarders were out. One guy said it wasn't enough wind? At the same time I almost switched to my full vent. I think he was afriad to put it in the power zone.

  11. Maybe drive over to the dry lake beds or try flying on the edge of lake mead. Could take a while to figure lake mead, but could have a constant breeze in one direction as the sun hits the lake. I live inland, but learn 10x as fast when in perfect  conditions at the coast. Might have to be at the boat lauch below the haicenda at dawn and see what happens. Google wind forcasts for your area to find how the wind works there.  You live near the biggest canyon in the world, the wind should move up and down it with some consistently. Think you could have great winds there you just need to time it right.

At the beginning, tip the nose towards you for light wind and away from you for stronger wind. Try different settings in the same wind to get a feel for the difference

Total quad head but , isn't this the opposite theory of tuning quads? Wouldn't you want to square the sail in light winds to increase the pressure and nose in to dump pressure in high winds. I know it's all theory, but both schools of thought work for me. I fly super brake heavy on my quads, second knot on TK's leaders. I guess you can kick in drive with a quad, if you have no drive on a dual in won't go anywhere.

  13. I have 4 yards of blue polyester ripstop from flymart and a yard each of white, black, grey and red texalon from flymart. Started cutting and piecing together some of the texalon, but the weave fibers are very wavy and the fabric has lots of memory. I cut a bunch of hexagons and 60°diamond pieces to do a M.C. Esherish transitions / tumbling blocks pattern out of the texalon. But it seems that the fabric has lots of memory and a kite built this way wouldn't fly worth a damn. Thinking about building a 2m Rok with the polyester as a 6 peice main sail and appliacing the pattern on top with the texalon. Big question is whether I should build in the traditional method of webbing and velcro for pockets or do it quad style and use bungis and caps? I won't  fly this is as fighter, only to lift the 12ft. spiky ball I want to buy.

Also looking to get into the quad line game after a family vacation to Lincoln City this past week and checking out the kite festival - which was absolutely amazing! Just saw a 20% discount code on Facebook (creeper advertising algorithms) for the revolution site (NYM2019) which brings the EXP down to the $170s incl shipping, which is what I’m going to pull the trigger on. After some fun with my 2 line stunt kite and trainer 2 line power kite, I’m excited to see how it goes with the quad.

I was there as well and festival was amazing. I only flew on the north side of the river. Was mainly on 30ft lines and like to move while I fly, flying a quad under and  around  everyone else was challenging but fun. I felt like part of the fest, like the random juggler walking through a fest. I had people that had never seen a quad start filming me, stating that they had never seen such precise control, then I drop a catch and throw and nail it!  Poof minds blown. Flew some team with 2 other kitelifers after that farther down the  beach. Good times.

The EXP is Rev's "intro" to quad and is generally a slightly heavier sail.. I'll be honest with you, for the same price as a new EXP you can get the Freilein Vertigo which is significantly lighter and has better low wind performance.. There's also the option for a older Rev B-Series used which I have a feeling will be much easier to find soon as there is a new quad on the horizon many of us are looking forward to.

If the EXP will meet your needs to learn on, then so be it but I have not found an experienced individual that considers them to be a low wind option. They are much more of a general baseline option.

The Lower wind options are Revolution Zen if you can find one, Rev Ghost, Rev Phantom, Several 1.5 SUL versions and the Freilein Vertigo.. For a bit more $$ the Phoenix Ashes (by Bazzer) is a great low wind sail.

I'll back up Riff on the freilein vertigo. Flew one in Lincoln city and there quite nice.

  16. You just missed the Lincoln City kite fest last weekend. It was a great time and I got to fly team quads with some fellow kitelifers. I have a kymerra with an ultra lite frame in it, if you want to try it. I think thier still 50% off at  Into the Wind? Or if you really want to start spending money there's always quads. I could meet you at Pine Nursery tomorrow afternoon, I have a kymera and a 4d, for duals and a full bag of quads. I don't hnow anyone else in town that flys regularly. The fairgrounds in Redmond  has cleaner air and way less people. It's worth the drive.
