  1. Yeah that would be cool. We'll have to watch the weather and when we see a dry spot try to plan it that week for a Saturday.

I think the main thing that made me decide on that model was wanting to try an R-sky kite but wanting to just get the latest model assuming they'd made any improvements they could on the earlier models.

I also bought it in the full nitro model after reading a review a version with that spar setup. I figure if I bought the kite with the non nitro original skyshark rods I'd always be wondering what the next model up would be like so I just spent an extra 50 bucks or so and got the top of the line version.

  2. I'm always interested in used kites. Haha

I bought a flying wings soul from another member on here that I have to admit I really didn't like in light wind but from 7-15 it's actually a pretty good kite.

That vented silverfox you have is awesome. I've wanted to grab a vented but haven't pulled the trigger on one yet but after flying yours that's probably the vented I would buy.

I have to admit I was really considering buying a supernova because I absolutely love the deepspace but the turtle is very shallow on it which does make certain tricks hard. Any turtle related tricks need a very deliberate turtle throw to get the kite to go deeper than it will naturally sit in the turtle. The Benson quality is just outstanding though.

I just pulled the trigger on a Nirvana 3E std the other day. Had alot of sidework coming at me so I figured I had earned it.

I've been watching the weather at the coast looking for some dry spots to go out to ocean shores. We'll definitly have to do that. I want a full day on trying to work on kite tricks.

You're always welcome to fly whatever I have as well. You may love the deepspace, what you give up on turtle depth you make up for in yoyo based tricks ten fold. The soul is good at nearly everything but it's a pig when the wind gets low.

I'm very excited for the nirvana though so when that comes in you can definilty fly that as long as you could ever want.

I'm always down to swap kites for the day!

  3. Definitely have learned this move fairly well in the last few weeks.

Never attempt it on my expensive kites but I have a second hand flying wings soul that I'm not worried about all that much.

I've found, atleast on a nice grass field, that by getting the first pop to be firm and literally only pull about a quarter inch of line if that followed by and immediate sweep works most of the time.

That pop has to be sharp but extremely short to allow the nose to bounce high.

A decent breeze helps out alot too.

Feel good having this little recovery method in my bag at this point.

  4. Currently own a Deepspace std, Lam Dream Machine Sul, a flying wings Soul, and a few lesser flown kites.

The Deepspace and Dream Machine are both awesome kites but I will say worlds apart in flying style. As I click with the soul more it's becoming more enjoyable of a kite.

The deepspace is a yoyo over achiever, the Dream machine really, for me, shines with turtle based moves.

Looking to get another kite possibly in the UL area but not set on that.

Has anyone flown the Benson Supernova, any Nirvana, Level One badass, or any kites in this realm that can provide a good word word for one.

My main thing I want to find is a kite that has a deeper turtle, does well when wrapped on in yoyos, and has a fairly stable fade.

Very interested in the Supernova and Nirvana.

  5. I've been getting a good amount of fly time on my new deepspace and have been very impressed with the kite. It flys so well when wrapped up in yoyos I assume because of the rolls bars helping keep the sail stretched. Really an awesome kite.

Getting the yoyos at the top of the wind window are very typical feeling and are pretty much on par compared to other kites.

I'm struggling though getting multiple yoyos lower in the wind window. The first yoyo I can setup with 2 pops. (Slack to get a slight turtle, small pop to lay the nose forward nearly touching the lines, 2nd pop to send the kite backwards through the turtle position and into a full wrap)

Obviously that method doesn't work to get a second yoyo because it trigger the unroll process.

I'm assuming I need to get more slack for any proceeding yoyos but can't seem to get enough slack quick enough to get any multiple yoyos.

Does anyone have any advice for this. Do I need to get the kite stalled before the second attempt?

Once wrapped once, I tend to try for the next yoyo by bringing my hands as far back as possible, giving a pop with my wrists, and lunging forward while throwing my hands forward but usually get a little tension in the lines right about the turtle position.

  6. I tend to keep my 4d just on the factory lines which I believe are 50 foot and really don't have much desire to cut them down from there.

I've used some braided 30lb fishing line on another SUL kite to make some really nice lines with just about no wind drag. They don't seem to have any stretch with the ultra lights but can be very difficult to remove the larks head if you don't sleeve the ends.

Definitly worth doing if you fly any ultra light kites and want to make line sets for just a few bucks.

How does the Kaiju do outside on some 50' lines in a 2-3mph winds? The 4d does alright but does require alot of gentle persuasion to get any tricks going.

  7. If only I could fly my deepspace as well as Tim does.

I have a little more time on it now but have not really clicked with it alot yet.

In my defense the only time I was able to really fly it with decent wind it was pouring down rain with huge puddles all over the ground.

Its definitly a kite that needs a fair amount of footwork to get things done properly.

Tim has another video of him doing a  jacobs ladder variation on the deepspace but every time the kite hits the fade he yoyos it to another fade then a quick lazy susan, pulls back to fade, and repeats.

Not sure what its called but rest assured I cannot do it. Haha. I tried though.

The input for the lazy susan needs to be timed well because the turtle is noticing shallow and getting the lines to go under the wing can be a bit tricky.

  8. Yeah I've noticed that the input from axle to fade is different on most of my kites.

Like the dream machine it seems to work best if it pull to fade with both hands when the kite is directly nose away in the axle.

The widow knockoff I have doesn't care much when you pull to fade or if you use both hands or just the opposite hand you used for the axle.

The hydra hates going into the fade for me usually.

The prism 4d likes the one hand pull to fade like the video.

The deepspace I got is just the standard red. Thought it'd be cool to have the classic deepspace look. Haven't gotten much time on it yet and winds have been poor.

I'm down to go out to Ocean shores for a weekend. I'd probably head out there a Saturday morning and head back Sunday. Take the wife and dogs with most likely too.

We usually will hang out at the beach all day and get some food to cook over a fire at night. Hopefully we can plan a dry weekend out there!

  9. Never have gotten to fly a nirvana but will see to it someday.

I own one Lam kite thats phenomenal.

Just recieved a benson deepspace yesterday also that I've only flown once in about 3mph winds so there was alot left to be desired with the conditons. Seems like it'll be a fantastic kite when the winds picks up just a bit.

Ironically with the light conditions I ended up mainly flying my prism 4D. Its not much of a trick machine but you can really persuade it into quite a few different tricks. Hit a handful of 540s with it today and numerous half axle fades. Never really tried that hard getting this kite to trick but its definitly up to it if you can coax it.

Definitly wouldn't mind having an N3E lw also.

  10. That should help alot. Ill try to get that second pull a bit of a longer tug. I think I've been trying to get a bit too much of a pop on that input. Thank you!

I'll definitly try this on the Soul too. Haven't flown it yet but very excited to see what its capable of.

  11. Thats very true.

I kind of figured that had a decent amount to do with it. That kite does do a very graceful slot machine. But its the worst kite for yoyos. Once wrapped it really struggles to stay airborne. It excels in areas but has some definite weaknesses for the average flyer trying to learn tricks.

Hopefully when I get this Soul into the air I can get some good practice time on it. I'm excited to have a better standard trick kite besides just the hydra.

  12. Good point.

I've been flying a dream machine sul by Lam Hoac. He seems to have that trick down with the kite. Im pretty sure it's just operator error on my part.

I have a flying wings soul that is getting delivered today.

  13. I finally started trying to get the slot machine today and was shocked to hit it on my first try. I had tried before a little while back but wasn't getting close at all but studied a bit more and realized the the 2 separate inputs on the upper wing to get the kite into that near flared position and the main rotation were way closer together than I originally thought. But this trick came really easy after realizing this little aspect.

So in trying to hit the taz machine I'm not even getting close to getting the kite to flat spin. I'm getting the initial nose high flare but when I give the next input for the flat spin the kite more lunges towards me and doesn't rotate much at all.

Is the second input more of a long hard pull as opposed to pop? Also when the kite is going into the flare are you supposed to get the line you're about to give the input to go a little taunt first as you would in a 540?

Any input or advice would be much appreciated.

  14. Got to try a couple different ideas. Man I thought you guys were all conspiring against me to not learn some secret trick! I was wrong. Haha. It definitly made the kite more finicky and unruly. Ended up thinking it really flew best with no weights at all but that was definitly as the expensive of yoyos from any flare postion.

  15. Never flown the Kaiju so not sure how that flys myself but have heard good things about it.

I own the 4D. It flys really well in just about no wind. You can do zero wind if you want to keep walking but obviously its best in about 2-5 mph.

That being said it's a great kite to fly when nothing else will because it stays aloft very well in the slightest breeze.

However if you're leaning towards tricks or anything of the nature its not the most trick oriented kite. Though there is a gentlemen on YouTube that does phenomenal things with his 4D which are far beyond my skill set with the kite.
