  1. any one have any input on the "soul" by premier? getting to be kite season here in WI and trolling for maybe an upgrade (acrobatx is my current). i am am kind of undecided between deep space, gemini, silver fox, and now possibly the soul. anyone here with experience with any or all of these, by chance? i know enough about the silver fox, though never flown one, but i am really interested in the benson kites and, of course, the soul.

  2. awesome, awesome, awesome!!! you guys are very busy people. are you still going to milwaukee sept. 13,14? if so what days/times whatever? i am really trying to make it down there from oshkosh this year now that i have some decent kites and know how to fly them...at least a lot better than last year (my first summer flying). hope to see you there.

  3. i have to say first off that kitelife is my favorite website. i tool arond here and there, but outside of my local NOAA website posting wind measurements every hour this is where i end up most often.

by the way, NOAA online is the kiters best friend.

    my suggestion is this:

i know that there are a lot of phtos and stuff floaitng around on this site and it is getting larger by the day. i think it would be neat if there were a "wallpaper"/"desktop" sized download location so we coulds be putting up cool pics and/or downloading them as well. as it is right now, you have to find them through the malestrom that is this ever growing site or go through google images where most of them are way too small. just a thought...mr. Barresi. all of you kiters take care of yourselves, and keep on getting more people into it.

  4. flew the newly refurbished totl on fathers day. 22 mph wind. AWESOME!!! pulled me around quite a bit, but nothing i couldn't handle. i actually sat down and brought it across the power zone and used it to pick me up to standing, fun, fun. i also had my rev and acrobatx set up at the same time and went to the acro and then to the quad and they felt like little toy kites after the pull of that beast. anyway, i gave it back to the owner, showed him how to fly it (he had never had it in the air) so me and the flyin' hawaiian have parted ways...fun while it lasted. on the plus side i may have cultivated a flying partner...something that i do not have here in oshkosh. thanks to everyone for the valuable input.

  5. WOW! thank you for the very thorough breakdown. the stand off (the one that remained) was a white fiberglass rod with rubber nipple tips. i foudn some carbon fiber ones and cut two to the original size one and put tips on them, i think it'll work out. i found a 100' 200# set of lines in town (very few items to choose from) and except for the actual launching she is ready to fly. i am thinking i might sit down on initial launch as i hear it gives a good pull. oh yeah, this one has these odd, metal bridle attachments which doesn't use a larkshead. i can't wait to see what happens.

    a chef is me,

    greg z.

  6. hey, i am getting a friends totl (team hawaiian?) back into flying condition. it needs a stand-off and some things which are no problem, but i was wondering what length/strength line to get for it. is 150# enough or should i get something stronger? this thing is huge!! he inherited it from some one, doesn't fly much if at all, but he won't sell it to me so i decided i would get it flyable and fly it for a little while before i give it back to him ;) fair trade off for a little running around and stuff. thanks for any help in this regard.

  7. i have had more problems with this by trying it from a fade...over and over again. i gree it is easier to start from higher positions but the way that i openend up this move was doing it in what i believe is called a "turtle" i.e. on its back, nose away from you. at this position and with enough slack it works perfectly for me everytime. i still have yet to do it from a fade, but then again i am not very good and have NO ONE to fly and learn with/from. it has been all trial and error and a few tutorials online which have helped...not very much (that's where i got the fade to backspin lesson)

  8. yeah another drawback is the 80# dyneema line snapped today one at the bridle and one at the handle. i don't know why it comes with that light of a line. i guess i am gonna have to buy 150# line...aaaarrgh!! thanks for the input.

  9. yes i know most of you know about the ability of the acrobatx by flying wings, but i thought i would add a newbie submission. i spent the last 10 months (minus a grueling winter) flying a new tech diode with some surprising success but found the things i wanted to do didn't seem do-able. i just received my acrobatx in the mail today and flew it for an hour and a half and am blown away at the difference. i schooled and got schooled. stalls happen at a whim. i pulled off my first half axle ever on my third try!!! wing stab coin toss...done. slides...done, but still needs some work. beautiful axles every time. i could axle on the diode and sometimes do a doofus looking stab/coin toss, but nothing like what i did on the acrobatx in less than two hours. i envy the rest of you who have been doing this for years on kites much better than this one, but i am so stoked right now i can hardly find the words. i love the level of detail in the production of this kite compared to what i have seen so far, again, nothing new to the pros but for broke newbies like me it is priceless. i can't wait until tomorrow when i have 4 plus hours to really try things that i couldn't have done before!!! i still have to learn to put the yo yo stoppers to use, and cometes and jacobs ladders, well, i am not sure if i will ever get those down, but at least i have the tool to do it. i have read a lot of pros and cons of the acrobatx, and i am sure that i will understand them in the future, but right now...i love it. for $69 through "fun with wind", free shipping, three day delivery i have to suggest this heavily for anyone looking for an affordable trick kite. a lot more touchy than what i am used to but that will soon pass. i still suggest spending time with a cheaper ($50) kite like the diode as i think it really helped hone my skills to the leaps that i made today.

any information on the use of the ballast weights would be extremely helpful. please give me your inputs. FLY ON!!!

  10. Since I don't know much about kites I would like to ask you guys this question. Will having a bigger kite be funner then a smaller kite if i'm not going to be doing a lot of tricks ?

i have only been doing this for a year now and needless to say i am hooked. i definitely think a bigger kite (when i say bigger i mean 64 inches & up) is much nicer to fly in terms of fun, pull, and ease of learning...they like to fly. my first kite was less than 48 inches and i tired of it quickly. you have probably, hopefully bought a kiite by now so this is probably inconsequential, but being somewhat new to this myself i have to say you came to the right place. i just bought an acrobatx that i wont get in the mail till thursday and i CANNOT wait. unfortunately i left my last kite on top of a car while loading up for a grill out and...it is no longer. a fool and his kite are soon parted. it was a new tech diode that while fun for a while and great for my wife and five year old daughter, left me wanting something a bit more trickier, so i advise listening to these guys on investing a little more at first to save you money in the long run. i wished i had. have fun. i know you will. and trust me after four hours of good wind i am sure you will be doing more than figure 8's...not that those aren't fun either.

  11. jsut looking for some input on the new jam kite by new tech. level of trickability, durability, turning and pull and such. any info would be great.

    Hey there...

The New Jam is a good kite for learning tricks on because of its capabilities, but not durability. I learned to do my first axels and fades on my NewJam, but I broke the kite more than once, let's say.

Alot of the breakage could be considered the abuse of a new pilot, but I have flown stronger kites that can trick just as well.

    ~Rob.

thanks for the input. i decided to get an acrobatx. getting it on thursday...i can't wait.

  12. i have been flying in oshkosh for over a year now and have yet to see ANY multi line kites. seen a few single line kites, though. i am sure there are people in o-town that fly stunt kites and keep my eyes peeled for them whenever i am anywhere near a flyable area (i fly all over the place). if anyone on these forums are in or from the area and want to fly some kites, i would love to network and go flying. i think it would be a great way to accelerate learning tricks, having other flyers to share their observations and hints, etc. my email is groozimmerman@yahoo feel free to contact me.

  13. i have only been flying dual line kites since may '07. i bought a little ignitor before i have ever seen a dual line (online or in real life) and was hooked imediately. soon after i learned (saw online, rather) what could really be done with these things. my question is: i just bought a new tech "diode" and was wondering what level of tricks it is capable of in regards of slack line, coin toss, 540's, etc. what are its weaknesses, etc. i have been unable to find any reviews or strongpoints even from the new tech website. flew it today for the first time and like how it felt, but seeing that i haven't had a kite capable of the mroe advanced tricks previously, was just curious what it could do. has anybody flown one that could enlighten me. thanks for any report. windless in oshkosh, wi.

I bought a Diode locally a few months ago, along with a video from New Tech about doing tricks.

I have not tried very much to do the tricks, so I can't say for sure if it will do the tricks or not.

But so far I have not been able to do any. ( I'm am also new at dual line this year.)

Like you, I also bought an Ignitor as a 1st kite.

You might have a faster learning curve then me.

I am planning on getting a better kite down the road, like what "windofchange" suggested.

    Good luck with the Diode.

    **FlyinKen** :sign_kitelife:

mixed results with the diode so far...what the heck do i know...i have been flying the same little ignitor that you have. i stilll think that at least SOME nice tricks can be achieved w/ the diode (i pulled off some yo-yo's with it with ease...not the tricks that i am looking for by the way) my wind windows and experience prevented me from perfecting axles and what not but still acomplished some slides (too much cross wind maybe?) keep on trying...my learning curve might be as big as yours.

  14. Silver Fox rules. :sign_kitelife:

hey john, it's annoying greg (groozimmerman) from oshkosh, WI. i see that you are slated to be in milwaukee in sept. i am not sure but i plan to go down there (i am roughly an hour north). maybe i'll see you there. thank you for the effort that you put into this sport, as of this writing i have seen ZERO dual/quad/ANY stunt kiting in oshkosh. all of my friends think i am retarded...oh well. i love your videos (my daughter and even my dissenting friends do too)...very inspiring! great website, great advice to get on the forums (the only forum that i have EVER interacted with). hopefully we'll have some wind down in Brewtown (unfortunately i own zero UL's). thanks again...greg zimmerman.
