  1. What type of line winders do you use for single line kites?

Below is a photo of the ones I make.

Very difficult to drill holes exactly in a line.

Haven't been able to come up with a jig that drills holes straight.

    Anyone have a suggestion?

Heard brad bit drills may work.

    Very simple to make.

Uses wooden dowels, solid fiberglass rods,

hollow fiberglass rod, vinyl tubing and an end cap.

If you would like measurements, just ask.

  2. If anyone is angling for a new Hawaiian Team Kite, I seem to recall that Cutting Edge Kites has obtained the license to make them, and has a few in stock, along with full parts availability. :)

I know that the original thread is quite old. I was looking on IKE earlier and there was a link to Chicago Kite I was looking at thier offering and came across this

The New and Improved Hawaiian Team Kite Two Week Delivery

[ Chicago kite is happy to bring back The Hawaiian Team Kite is the big stunter that started the sport of team formation flying. These big wings are powerful kites that have been the standard for percision and power and are one of the best looking kites in the sky. Durable and strong. 66/36" case included.

Skill level: Intermediate Sail material: Ripstop nylon Spar material:Sky shark Wind range:4-30 ]

    The price is kinda high.

    Don't think I'll buy any.

  3. Host I was using would only display the pics if I brought up the page they were on, everyday, first.

I have moved to my own domain, should work now without problems (hopeful)

Let me know if problem persists.

Problem solved, thanks Mike. Excellent pics.

Looking foreward to seeing photos of that Avenger stack.

    I love old school. :w00t:

  4. Here is my favorite called the Hawaiian Spinoff.

Have two of these. Anyone else have any?

If you look closely, the vinyl fittings have been dyed different colors using Rit dye.

The standoffs are made using painted styrofoam balls called Corkies which are used for fishing.

Have a VHS video of a five stack with 100' tails.

Got no idea how to put it on here.

Would love to share, very nice day and fantastic flying

    along with interesting comments.

  5. hey Linekahuna

i happen to have a three stack of them up for grabs..........

    DSCF4370.JPG

    so to answer your question:

there is a red/white/blue version out there.........

How does that stack fly compared to more recent deltas?

i have never flown it....probably pulls like a tank....and is loud as illegal straight pipes....

    Did they sell?

  6. I would love to get some measurements from someone who owns a Hawaiin Team kite, Got an old one here, a little worse for wear and it is missing parts that need to be replaced.

To put it back together again, I need the measurements for the top and lower spreaders and the length of the whiskers please.

    Hi, Janola.

Just took measurements from my Hawaiian Team kite.

Top spreader is 23". Cut mine in half and installed an internal ferule.

Much easier to pack away in the bag.

    Lower spreader is 32 1/2".

What other parts do you need? The tubing can be bought at most hardware stores.

Arrow nocks and inserts can be found at an archery or sporting goods store.

The whiskers in mine are made of .261 hollow fiberglass tubing 16" long.

Most others are done in solid fiberglass rod.

    Don't have that measurement.

Imagine a 5 stack of these.

This kite was used in a two stack. The front kite is a smaller version called Avenger with a six foot wingspan.

    Haven't seen many of these.

    Pulled a ton.

This Hawaiian was made to fly in high winds. It has a 404 f.g. spine and .370 spars.

At one time, I replaced original frame with .298 spine and .278 spars.

Would fly in 1 mph wind and did it very well.

This is the Avenger kite. It tucks in nicely in front of the Hawaiian.

  7. A little about myself. I am a product of the 40's and have been flying kites since the 50's. In the early 80's I started flying dual line and trains. In the 90's my elbows started going south so I switched to Quad lines. I don't get to fly very often but have a great time when I do.

I still have several of the older kites (rainbows, hyperkites, etc) and also a couple of numbered kites by Debra Lumpkins Strom. One is the Jazz Delta and the other is The Swan Kite.

My question would be is there a market for some of these older kites?

    ps- Great forum :)

    Yes.

  8. I have a Hawaiian Team kite that I inherited when my brother passed.

It is in amazing condition and I had it out this past weekend.

Only problem with it is the way the "whiskers" as the manual calls them or "standoffs" slip out of the connector easily, anyone know where I can get replacements or something that would work?

    A photo of my Hawaiian.

The standoffs are made from hollow fiberglass rod size .261.

Maybe try adding an end cap to the standoff or use smaller vinyl tubing.

    Thanks for the info.

I'll take a pic of mine later and put it up.

    Any photo yet?
