  1. Because I truly believe in brick-and-mortar kite shops rather than shopping online, I'm posting this for your information. The map isn't totally correct. Kites Unlimited and Bird Stuff, Etc. is next door to Monkey Bar. https://www.google.com/maps/place/Kites+Unlimited+%26+Bird+Stuff/@34.701603,-76.7572879,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x89a892368639cef5:0x7d197f0aee4566a!8m2!3d34.701603!4d-76.7550992
  2. Just a reminder and a note to the newcomer, we have a kite shop in town if you need anything for the clinic. Kites, lines, stakes, handles, kites, etc. Single, dual, quad. And repairs. Not that you'll need any repairs, but I just thought I'd throw that in.
  3. The early forecast for next weekend is winds 10-14 mph on Sat. and 7-10 mph on Sun. You couldn't ask for better. Let's hope the predictions are right. Oh, and temps. in the high 80s.
  4. Good thing the clinic is next weekend. If it was this weekend, everyone would need vented kites and 250# lines.
  5. We've just got the kites packed on the truck. Add our suitcases and cooler in the morning and we're on our way. Predictions are the winds will be light and temperatures cool.
  6. We're heading to the mountains. The storm will bring a lot of rain to our region but the winds shouldn't be too bad. Because of the threat of flooding, the schools are getting out three hours early.
  7. Believe it or not, we would have died for some sparrow farts on the beach this summer. Seems like the wind knew when our club flies were occurring and went away just for those few hours. September should be better or, at least somewhat cooler. It is a given, though, that the wind will die at tide change and pick up again after.
  8. Everything I've done since high school has been in a male dominated world; college, research, profession, etc. That's why it's nice to see the ladies around. Though most of the time, I hang out with the guys, too.
  9. It's good to see that there are a couple of women in the clinic. Sometimes it seems like kite flying is male dominated. You go, girls!!!!!

  12. I must jump on here and let you know that there is a kite shop in Atlantic Beach, NC just down the road from Fort Macon and most probably where you will find a place to stay. It is Kites Unlimited & Bird Stuff. It's located in the Atlantic Station Shopping Center. They have quad lines and other accessories. And they have some Revs and Veritgos in stock. And a couple of speciality Revs. They can help you out with whatever you might need.
  13. Skydog Kites has the Black Dog UL. I have one and really like the way it flies.
  14. Move the drawing date up to the 10th and you can bring me the prize when you come for the clinic. I wouldn't mind at all.
  15. I'd be afraid of both these deals. Do they say what weight the rips top is? 3/4 oz. is the best for kites. 1.5 oz. is more for banners, tents, duffles and sleeping bags. The motto I always remember is "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is." Too cheap may mean a unflyable kite. I have to look for deals, too, but those scare me.
  16. Phil does have ripstop on sale from time to time. Here's the link to his web site Fly Market Kite Making Supply. Also keep an eye on the Kitebuilder.com forum. Sometimes builders there have material they want to get rid of for one reason or another. Or they may know of other suppliers and sales.

I've seen this stack before. But for the life of me, I can't remember where or who made it. Argh!!!!!!
  18. We put a roof top carrier on my Outback. A 72" model holds the long bags perfectly and there's still room for chairs and duffle. Suitcases, camera bags, cooler, dragon kites and banner bag go in the back. Also in the back is a step stool to make it easier to get in the carrier.

We weren't planning on getting a crew cab truck either until we realized we were going to have a vehicle that held two carseats. We put a hard cover over the bed and now can cary twice the kites.
  20. It's gotten very quiet here. Only a month to go.
  21. Earlier this summer, the heat got to me and I couldn't make it back to the parking lot. I ended up sitting by the side of the road while my husband got the truck and came to pick me up. The park ranger saw me and stopped to help and would have called the EMTs if I had needed them. I had been drinking water and pouring it over my head and shirt. Since then I take no unnecessary chances.
  22. Glad to hear everything is better. Hope to see you again soon.
  23. I'm not privy to all that's been occurring behind the scenes but I get a sense of relief on your part. KiteLife is a much better place to be and I thank you for maintaining it for all of us. It is a safe place to talk, debate and vent. And although it is predominately attended by guys, I feel like I fit in. That means more to me than you can know.
  24. I have both the full sail and the vented Frielien. I got to test fly them for our local kite shop and was impressed. So I added them to the bag. They'll be my everyday flyers.
