  1. Jon T's Addiction for about 80.00 bucks. I Love it with a bit stiffer leading edges in mine though. Now it tricks and goes to the wall and back. However I have done a lot more to my Addiction than that and it flies a lot HOTTER now than Stock. "Understand" that my Addiction is made by Premier and not one of Jon T though!~!~!
  2. I Personally have always trusted my VAPOR for indor flying on 15 to 20 foot lines MAX!~! I just got the new 4d and I have a 3d by prism. The 3d is great on 15' However Any to linw kits your going to to have to work your Ass off and be sure of your movements. Simple, Exact, things are meant to be. I not yet tried the Skate but Ive watch the video and it looks Fun. I Can almost fly a "REV" in the wind. No wind however. is asking wayyyy to much. What do you think there John my Friend do you hear a "Impact" coming here shortly??? Fast Eddy
  3. Hey Beautiful Sorry for not Saying Hello and WELCOME to Portland any sooner! I have been Down and sick for a while... I hope you and JOHN are both GREAT!~! Tell him Hello from Mr ED at Harbor Wind and KITE in Ventura and I hope to see you Both at Berkeley this year!~!

  4. Duane In my experience of teaching students who hit the wall. I have found three common sticcking points in what they seem to have in common. Most of them if you would think of them a bit will make obvious since in your own flying once pointed out to you. SO I am just going to list them out and send you a few pointers to help with each one. 1) Set up of the kite for the conditions of the day / winds. 2) Consistency in doing the maneuvers at hand that your trying to accomplish. 3) Smooth consistent Hands and positioning of the kite in the "WINDOW and POSITION." So with number one, I have noticed that Most of my students get use to doing their tricks for example in 8~9MPH winds. The Kite will be in a said position in "X" factor of time for you to react. With "X" amount of slack in the lines and hence a successful trick will be performed with TWO steps of your feet forwards. So now when "we" fly in 12~13MPH winds Not a huge difference but still a Notable one for a lot of kites. Our Kite will Now be in Said position "Y" in a Slightly shorter amount of time. With "Z" amount of slack which will get shorter MUCH FASTER, than before so time to react is shorter. Hence Our steps / Tree trunks called feet Must move four steps to keep the "X" factor in Part 1 a reality. So a Proper amount of slack can be in the lines for a successful trick. Many of us MISS the SMALL things, in flying and we DEEM it a Wall or a Challenge in what we are doing wrong. If "we" step back and think for a moment about the Basics we might see the simplest things are what is wrong and we are just HALF the problem. Number TWO above, is covered somewhat in part one. Is the kite is the "Right" position when your inputs are being applied. If your answer is Yes to that, ask yourself this, Was the amount of slack in the lines the right amount as well? Each line has a certain and said amount to make things happen more or less. To much "Slack" not enough Pull. Not enough Slack, Not enough ability to clear a wing tip or spin properly. Number Three Above, Smooth consistent Hands that allow Slack and tension to Flow from within the mind without thought. It becomes a second nature to your eye, and the position of the kite to the nose. YOU have the trick lines and sequences memorized from one to the other and you know the transitions and you can just move through them without thinking. A SMOOTH mind and even choppy Winds across your kite can make you seem as if its not that horrible a day. Many people of called it the Kite CHI Factor and to you it is like nothing else matters. So step Back for a Minute. Think about your set Up. Think about the Basics, and your wind levels and proper timing. WE should be able to Hit a Trick 9 out of 10 times in most conditions under 18MPH winds if we have done the above right and we are truly in tune with our Kite! Fast EDDY
  5. Berkeley was just TOO much FUN!~!~!

  6. WOW This List alone could be a SUPER long list Although this day and age it seems that the ALL mighty dollar is one of the biggest factors. Fallowed by the Newest members to what we do. Then cost of maintenance over all if one should break something if that said kite is NOT durable enough, OUCH!~! My first choice would be for Any beginner who wants to start learning to trick anything as a "Instructor," would be the ADDICTION by Premier. All .0157 solid carbon rods, except for the lower spreader. A Great medium handed kite that tricks well with very decent flight characteristics right out of the bag including a Trim system for different wind conditions. ( see my write up on this sight ) (no Addiction info on Premier web site) Second choice and there are Video clips all over already would be the new E 3 by Prism, or the Maastro by HQ Both are GREAT kites in the Larger range and do a good job in teaching a Much more finessed and processioned tricking. They Both will make your timing much better, as well as Increase your understanding of the wind and SLACK line flying within a WIDE range of ways. Broadening your knowledge in many different ways and teaching you that each trick is going to react differently with different kites. http://prismkites.com/k_e3.html http://www.invento-h...id=39&Itemid=38 My third kites at the top of the lists are my Prism Elixers (discontinued) and my Quantum Pros or my Gemini by the Benson boys and girls. http://prismkites.com/k_qp.html http://bensonkites.c...tes/gemini.html So there you have it. ALthoe I have a GREAT many other that I LOVE flying when the conditions are Ideal. Yet when the winds are not these are the wind kites that get the most use when It is CRANKING and I am still tricking away when most are no longer even flying at 20 Plus MPH Lets go get em and keep teaching others what WE ALL LOVE and ENJOY ever so Much!~! Fast EDDY See you all at Berkley
  7. HMMmmmmmmmm Are Boomerrangs and Other Wind toys Covered under our AKA INSURANCE while we're out flying in these instances??? IT sucks that our society has gotten this bad. I do hope you can touch base with ernie and see if things are O K. Remember tomorrow is yet another day of FUN and PEACE. EITHER WAY YOUR DAY SUCKED!!!!! Mr ED
  8. Hey Ben, I just posted to you in a P M. Ya what He SAID!!!! The Kites does fly sorta O K as a whole. The Man who built these kite does put on a very good display in his demonstration in his clips with the kite. As for Me flying the kite with Years of experience in Dual. As well as Time in Quads. I just couldn;t get it to do much of anything like he did. Now the best of the three you have listed in My Opinion is the TC - UR It Float really well and if your not careful the Lawn dart is QUICK!!! in the TC-UR as well. It was the last version. It is the Red and Black W/ a yellow ish S in it I referred to. That was probably the Best one of the series to have. More mods were done to the kite and the airfoil as a whole. It was also a STRONGER air frame. Over the T C Ultra and the Others in My Opinion. The Spin was also better in Quad mode. The Side Slide was also MUCH Improved in MHO in the TC - UR. However It is anly as GOOD as you are in your Control inputs The Biggest advantage was the more so floating ish lower T spreader to allow the Kite to move a LOT more freely than the Predicessors IMO once again!!! Which allowed the Kite to "TWIST" more in Quad mode for the center rotation. Althoe it was not like it was 10 flod better than the previous versions. Just keep that in mind. The Sight I referred you too in your P M has them on Close OUT prices right now at HALF PRICE!!! Ping me back if you wish more Input and I will fly it for you this weekend again and see what more I can tell you about it to refresh my mind. Yet the kite unless you wish to put a LOT of time in will be just a Kite. You need to Understand it is just a Basic delta kite. Set up for two bridal configuration. One a Dual, the other a Quad. Both have there Time and Place to fly in a certain type of Wind and MPH factor as well.
  9. AHhhhh The Knot Issue on this Kite. I took a SIMPLE piece of Heat shrink Tubing I think it was a 3/8 inch piece or a 1/4. I know this It was the SMALLEST piece I could FORCE!!!! over the three knots. Then I shrunk it down to cover up the Problem area. Lesson Learned was YOU MUST barely cover the knots and strings that go to the kite. Less than 1/8th of a Inch for the Lines need to spread out etc. Down over the Knots I went just more than 1/4" when it was all shrunk up to cover all the glue etc. Just be VERY aware of your Temps on the tubing as you shrink it as to NOT Burn your lines. I have the Proper Heat Gun so it was easy. The Opening after a colapse was MUCH easier. Usually one side of the kite would start to fly first and then as Long as I flew that ONE line the rest would fallow!!! Hope it Help you out... ED
  10. Here is a ""PRIME"" example of where a DECENT shop and experience of a that shop come into play. The Instructors and the "Questions" they come too ask you before the just SELL you something and Take your MONEY!~! Many people especially in this the Kiting world do "NOT" want to spend the extra 10 to 20 dollars on a Kite at a local shop. When they can buy a kite on~line at a discount. Prime example of this is what I sent you Personally Jon, in a Private message. A Good / Decent shop in my Years of Experience, is a customer based shop, that will ask a person the fallowing things befor they purchase a kite in general. There are "beginner" kites that are just that. Built to do Circles and figure B's amd maybe a Axel when you get good, at the stall factor and side slides. However that is about it. Then there are the other side of Beginner kites that have much more trickability to them. Most of these kites are ones that Shops who have Instructors like myself who FLIES all the kites when they come in and put them through a "CERTAIN ROUTINE" that is a basic set of tricks. I/E Prism's Video without the Jacobs ladders and combination tricks. To see what the kite can do with ""EASE!~!" That way the shop can then have a Idea as to what to ask a person in the fallowing criteria.......... 1. What is your experience, and what would you like to do with you kite??? 2. Probably have a quick Vidoe show and tell as to what your kites potentail is and would you like to be able to do This??? 3. Are you interested in lessons in learning these things??? 4. A Primary "basic" lesson Comes with the purchase of a stunt kite of say 50.00 dollars or more. 5. Then they show you the difference in the kinds of kites and the potentials between them. So the education process is MUCH simpler and easier to be made. There are "Several" beginer kites out there that you can NOT ( Back spin, Yo yo, Fade, Side slide, Axel, with ease etc. ) Yet there are three or four good 80.00 to 110.00 ish dollar kites that come with 40.00 dollar strings right off the top of my head that would of done MOST of what you were trying to DO!~!~! That YOU would of NOT found on LINE all that easy without Talking to a experienced SHOP or persons who have flown those kites. That Basic knowledge is Priceless especially when a Shop person Hands you There kite and says Here give it a try. Then says O K here is what I can do with this kite easily. Lessons Learned are HARD PRESSED to us all many times OVER sometimes. It pays to "ASK OURSELVES" what is that extra 20.00 bucks worth to us in HEAD ACHE time alone??? From the shops who "REALLY HAVE THIER ACTS TOGETHER" over the years??? If we should Break something how easy is it too replace??? At that shop which is 2 hours away, or on our own at our house!~! That is a HUGE thing when your a long ways away from your Kite shop. So as a Teacher / Instructor at a Shop. I have sceen Many people buy the Cheapest of two lines kites. Fly them for 20 minutes out on the beach while Im flying mine with other students. Just to have them turn around and Buy a Better kite and hand that off to thier kids. Or I have sceen people buy 180.00 dollar kites and they have never Flown a 2 line before in thier lives and exspect to fly it and not destroy it, and it is a real shame to watch the Carnage begin. As I try to sit with them in my lap and begin the lesson and slow them down and smooth out the natural tendencies built into our brains. Fast Eddy
  11. Hey Jon For Giggles and Chits Have you ever looked at a Premier ADDICTION??? It is only 60 ~ 80.00 bucks at the MOST!~! Now there is the shop I work for as the Head flight Instructor / test pilot as well. They have developed a KIT to put into the kite and it makes it fly like you would not believe. We are doing Reversing back spins with that little 7.4 oz kite. It is DURABLE as can be and it will take a lot of abuse and comes with very nice Dynema lines. I forget what BUZ is charging for the Overhaul of the kite. I think it is 50 bucks for the full kit and that is what you would want to do. It comes with two different trim sets new cross members. Then he retrims the sail and stand outs and tentioning of the sail. IT is quite the project he worked out!~! About a hour and a Half of work to get the kite to what it is now. I love my fully Modified kite. LOOK up my write up on here and contact Slow Pro about any questions as well. He flies out of that shop as well. Think about that a 60~80 dollar kite with a mod in it that flies like a full on 150.00 ~ 200.00 dollar kite ish HMMMM and it is EASY to FIX It will easily fly in the 5 Mph range of wind and can do ok in the 15 Mph. Where you are in Oregon as people are talking about. Fast EDDY
  12. Hey Jon Im a LONG time old school comp Pilot from the late 90's and I know your Issue well. I still did not see the right answer in just skimming thru all 3 pages here. When doing the Back spin from a FADE position. YOU need tro have the Kite COCKED off more vertical. The kite is NOT in a "PURE" Fade position. It is more like wing tip to wing tip at 11 and 4 and 8 and 2 on the clock... Each kite is different. Now the easy way to get this to happen when your coming down in the dive start a small turn as you throw your hands and step forwatd. To get the Fade to KICK out too nose away, and then TUG into the ANGLED offset fade!~! Now when the Kite goes into the belly away nose just above Vertical position. The wing tips need to be 11 and 4 or 8 and 2, Pull the fade back too you ASAP. The Quantum your flying needs to be a BIT past level and nose high by about 5 to 10 degrees. PULL back in a quick smooth motion as in all fades. As the kite come thru to the fade. YOUR HIGH WING be it the left hand or the right is your PULL HAND!~! 11 ~ 4 is your right 8 ~ 2 is your Left. If memory serves me right here sitting at the computer!~! Your Quantum will want to "flatten out quickly here so PULLING the hIGH wing to initiate the spin is of TIMING asap!~! The nose should be FLTA to the AIR FLOW over the kite from your Perspective. The Back spin here depends on how your FULCRUM/STALL is set up on your kite. IF YOUR FADE will sit without ""BOBBLING"" 15 FT off the ground. Then do your back spin at 15 ft. with the Above info. It will help a lot for this is where there is the Least amount of recovery wanting to happen in your kite. Give this Info a try and Drop me a line if you neeed a Better explanation. I just blased thru the 3 pages here and did not SEE the problem issue properly addressed in any of the reasons so I hope I addressed it.... I, P Med it too you. Fast EDDY
  13. Hi RAE There is a Great little light weight kite that I have done a write up on, on this sight. It is the premier ADDICTION, and it runs anywhere from about 60.00 to 80.00 dollars, pending on where you get it... I have Two of these kites and one was Modified by Harbor Wind who has Advertising on this sight etc. I have been FLYING Prism for YEARS and have almost every one of thier Top of the line kites. A LOT of People will swear by the company. However in my 25yrs of flying there have been Nicer and Cheaper, Easier to trick and flip around kites in the "Low End" of the spectrum. This is one of those little kites. It does not come with the previous mentioned video. However it is a Wonderful Kite to fly and is Durable as all can be!!! From that 5MPH to 20 MPH winds. ED
