  1. It's between a jerk of the wrist and a full arm sweep. Usually a somewhat quick input. If you've only been flying for a few days though work on keeping the kite in the air more than learning tricks.
  2. Yes you could build one in about an hour (of course I would prefer you not too but with anything new (soft kites, sport kites, new tricks) the time outlay is in the idea, prototype development and production. It has taken me just under 2 years to get this thing nailed down and so you can see why I get a little sulky with comments like above even when they are well intentioned as I believe this one to be. However, this is a whole other area of conversation that is better off in another thread as it involves so many people and views. As for the kite, I have a better challenge for you. As kite manufacture is something you enjoy, try and push kites on by making some thing new. After all, where would be if everyone simply copied the North Shore Radical rather than pushing it to the next level. Without Don Tabor and TOTL where would we be with dual line kites? You never know, if you come up with something good I might buy one I wasn't planning on copying, I was just noting how weak our dollar was when compared to the effort. I totally understand the R & D that goes into perfecting a design or even modifying an existing for your own character. I'll be on the list to purchase one as soon as our $ strengthens no doubt about it. Anyhow, the orange, white, and green kite in the bottom corner is something I came up with after scaling from a plan on the large kite, adjusting build techniques to work with the small seams and modifying the panel setups. ;-) http://farm1.static.flickr.com/23/39671974_e8f12a6e35_o.jpg Back on topic, are more available?
  3. It's too bad our (USA) dollar is so weak right now. $80 seems a bit high for 2 triangles sewn together. While I'm sure they are very well built and a lot of fun to fly, I could probably build one for myself with less than $20 in material and in less than an hour worth of time. Looks like fun though.
  4. Well I tried replying to this thread on the "Other US forum" but it was deleted before I could reply. . .lol Anyhow, this isn't anything new. Certain forums allow "spiders" from Google, Yahoo, etc search engines to roam their website. This helps to get the word out to the general public who uses google/etc to find something new. At the same time it also causes the forum's that are allowing it to require more bandwidth because often multiple search engine spiders are roaming your website at the same time all of the time. It's the price you pay to get noticed by someone from the "outside". Well then guess this one was edited before I could reply as well. . . go figure.
  5. Make sure the ferrule doesn't come unglued and slide into one spar more than the other.

    Flying Stacked!!

Well the 2 years was mainly spent working out a little wobble here and a little wobble there as lines would stretch out. I started with fresh spectra stack lines and ended with well used flying lines that were copied from the originals.

    Flying Stacked!!

I had a 4 stack of rev 2's I could hover without much wobble. Took me about 2 years of adjusting though. A few years later I ended up trading them off to a friend for some RC equipment. I've always regretted trading that stack but plan to work on building another bigger better stack ever since I got back into kiting in '04. Your best bet for removing wobble in a stack is to pull the bottoms in like what has already been said in this thread. Definitely some nice advice. After you get the kites to stick together start working in 1/2" increments then in 1/4" to really fine tune it. I found making my stack lines out of old flying lines helped to keep the stretch to a minimum. If not pre-stretch your lines with a few flights using a heavy pulling single line kite.
  8. T, has there been anymore recent updates than "05/17/06"? I know there are a ton of kites that you carry, that aren't on the site's main page, but in the forum sections. I just like to look at catalogs every now and then. . . lol
  9. Nope, it's Chris. I thought I had my sig up to date since I joined a little while back and have only lurked in the past. I've been meaning to check this forum more often, but haven't had the chance till now. Here's a direct link to the "rang thang" thread I mentioned in my previous post. http://www.kitebuilder.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1627 Rich from that forum has made a useful web page to help collaborate some of the info. It can be found here: http://www.thedurants.net/kites/rang.thang/ Hope that helps a bit.
  10. Penny, you should check out http://www.kitebuilder.com/forums/ We've got a post called "rang thang" that is all about Lee's UFO. It's got somewhere around 15 pages or more of useful information about building your own wands, sails, and quad handles. I'll be making a few here soon. One is going to be a celtic knot ring for my girlfriend, and the other is going to be a mylar version for me.
