  1. Got more time in today. Yeah the flying in reverse seems to be toughest! Takes a light touch I think cause I too often made a wing tip flip up. Any tips on reverse flight? Going forward is no problem and getting it to stop is easy, but making it actually fly reverse seems difficult.

  2. Father of 4. 1 and 4 yr. old, one in heaven and one on the way. Currently fostering 3 siblings whom are soon to leave. Hey I got to fly my rev for a good while today at the park cause I only had my 2 girls with me most of the day. My 4 yr old got some good time in with my prism 3d as well! The rev is awesome!! Being my second time out with it, I finally got the hang of controlling it. Now I just gotta work on getting precise with it.

  3. Thanks for the tip Jason! I wish I could've made good use of the nice wind this weekend, but alas, my children come first! Twas funny, one of the neighbor kids asked me when I was setting up my rev to fly for the first time why I'm so obsessed with kites. I was thinking though I could ask him that same question about football!! While we may never see sport kite flyers getting paid millions to play with the wind, we sure to see lots of 'other sport' players getting paid that to play with a ball. funny. :shifty:

Mike, I wish I DID have fellow flyers around here to learn from! But alas, I know of none.

  4. I finally got to go try out my new rev exp today!!! There's a field behind my house I tried out for the first time and it was just big enough to get the kite going when the wind was good. I took my 4 kids with me while my little one napped so I wasn't out for long. I had no problems launching it but getting it to stay up for long was certainly tricky! I don't think I kept my hands up high enough on the handles like the manual says. It seemed the kite always wanted to turn or come back down. Can't wait to try it out in a better field with better winds!

  5. buying the dvd by itself won't do me any good cause I need a good kite to go with so I can actually learn the stuff on the dvd! I have no good stunt kite to learn on and would eventually like to get something much more decent than my old (now broken) bandit. I would like anyone's take on how the prism mirage compares with the big bang. I can get a big bang for way cheaper but was wondering if I might fare better going with the mirage.

  6. Yes could you please explain the sloppy axels cause i've been wanting to get one of those dvds for a long time. And could someone tell me which is the best deal:

A prism mirage with dvd for $105

or a big bang with dvd for under $70

    Thanks for any input.

  7. I just got an older used model prism 3d off ebay for extremely cheap but It came with no lines. What should I use?? I just got it yesterday and made do with some broken pieces of lines from my parastunter. I wrapped the ends of the lines around my fingers just to control the thing and it worked fine just to try the kite out. Kite was flying great in my backyard winds yesterday! So what's a good lineset to get for it? Thanks for any input!

  8. Since no one else has written any reviews here I thought I'd start! The 'go fly a kite' brand of stunters is the only ones I currently have experience with and I thought I'd write a review of the three I own. BANDIT, BOOMER, PARASTUNTER. My first ever dual line stunter was the Boomer which I purcashed about a decade ago. I never was able to keep it up in the air until I had experience with the Bandit which I purchased at a clearance price in some mall store a few years ago.

With the BANDIT being the larger kite of the two, it was much easier to get it up with less wind and once I got the hang of flying, I was hooked on stunters ever since! The bandit can be flown in 4mph winds although it's difficult at first. Give it a good breeze at 7mph going on 10mph or above and if becomes a lot of fun for a beginner! In strong winds it has some good pull to it and a slight buzzing noise. I find it easy to do fairly precise ballet manuevers with the bandit after a bit of practice. I've been flying mine regularly for over 2 years now and it has never given me any problems even with all the crashes. A very sturdy kite for the price! trickabilty is not the best but then again, i'm still learning. I can easily make it fip on it's back but controlling getting back out without crashing is still challenging for me. I recently cracked one of the lower spars, but I taped it up and the kite flew great for a long time after until someone messed with my spar and accidently broke it comepletely in two. The bandit has been a great introduction for me into dual line flying!

The BOOMER is much harder for first time flyers since it needs a good wind to keep it up. Once I had the hang of flying my Bandit, I could fly the Boomer and actually keep it up when the wind was stronger. I'd say going on 10mph winds and above. It's much more difficult to control because of it's size. The one I have is an old model but I certainly wouldn't recomend it for a first time flyer. It doesn't track as easy as the Bandit and I can't really say anything of it's trickability. I never fly it and never did much since the Bandit was so much easier.

My newest, the PARASTUNTER is a blast to fly! Give it good 8mph and above winds and it's a piece of cake to learn two line flying especially if you have someone to help you launch it. I self launch mine all the time but it can a be a pain to have to keep running to the kite to spread it back out when you crash it or loose wind. The spectra lines that came with it creates a nice whistling sound when flying in good wind. The kite has a great feel to it and doing standard ballet moves is a cinch. Pull is good in strong winds but I do recomend getting heavier lines than the ones that come with if you plan on flying in stronger winds. Durablitly is great cause there's no spars to break! Being the most expensive kite I currently own(only 50$), I recomend this kite to anyone who wants to experience two line flying for the first time minus all the trickability.

  9. Oh darn! :w00t: The cracked spar on my kite that I taped up is COMPLETELY broke now! (thanks to my 4 yr old who was messing with my kite as I was winding up my lines)

Since there's no local kite shop close by, how do I know exactly what size and make of rod I need if I order a spare one online??

  10. Yeah, IF that club is still around! That web site hasn't been updated in 2 years and I recently tried emailing the site but haven't gotten a reply yet. As far as the Chattanooga festival goes, maybe i can make it by next year but who knows. I think there's some flyers in Alabama less than 2 hrs from here but I haven't checked into it yet. I found a website of a kite shop down that way and it seems to be updated pretty recent but I haven't emailed anyone yet to check into it. Thanks for posting the info though. :P

  11. That sounds like a good statement! I can't imagine there would be much profit if at all in the kite business and especially if you don't have a web site. I grew up looking at into the wind catalogs and never got to order anything from them til I was older and had my own money to spend. I remember looking at all those high dollar kites as a kid and wondering who in their right mind would spend over a hundred dollars on kites?! All I ever knew were those cheap plastic deltas at the local retail store! Now that I'm grown I wish I HAD that hundred dollars or more just to spend on em!!

And no I won't be attending any convention. I haven't even got to attend any kite festival or thing of the like period! Now that I'm into kites more than ever, I'm also married with two kids and currently fostering three others! So going any long distance from here to any type of kite event (although i'd love to) is outta the question! :P

  12. ooo! I had a great experience this morning at the park here in Spring Hill, TN. Asides from the 2 crying 4 yr olds who were ready to go to Mc D's for lunch and keeping up with my 1 yr old, I did something amazing with my bandit for the very first time! I was practicing fliping the kite on it's back but i can never control getting the kite back to normal the way i want, but today i flipped it and it started spinning ever which a way and then did a nice nose forward flipping to nose pointing up several times in a row on it's way down and landing perfectly on it's belly with nose pointed towards me and the lines ended up somehow so that all i had to do was gently tug to roll the kite back up from the ground with nose pointing straight up ready to launch again! I've never done such a thing before and it was pure luck but man did it look sweet!! (And this was still using my crappy lines!)

  13. Hey, i was thinking there should be a discussion of kite retail on here! Surely there's folks on here that are in the kite retail business. I wanna hear from ya! What's the ups and downs of it? Is it possible to be in the business full time or do most people have other means of income to support the hobby of having a kite retail business? I would love to hear about what it takes to start up a kite shop. I'm not planning on starting my own business or anything. I just want to hear peoples input. Thanks for any post on this subject!

  14. Fields of Tennesee Kite Club?!? nah! well maybe. I was suprised there wasn't any club in the memphis area when I lived there! I saw many, many people out flying in the spring time at Shelby Farms but never got to meet up with anyone who had a better kite than mine. :-( I'm still stuck with my go fly a kite bandit that has crapy lines and a taped up spar! The lines that came with my parastunter were great upgrades on my bandit but unfortunately they broke!! So now i'm stuck with only one set of (CRAPY)lines for my bandit AND my parastunter! Stinks that I can't afford new line sets let alone a better kite! Anyhoo, the Shelby Farms kite flying area is where i learned to finally control my dual line bandit and i had many great flying times there.

  15. Thanks kitepilot for the post! The UFO looks similar to an air-yo. So what's the best low/no wind kite for the money? And could someone tell me how a prism nexus compares to a beetle? I've read a lot about the beetle being a great kite for the money but I don't really like the design of it compared to prism's line of kites. Any thoughts?
