  1. Seeing as how my current Kymera is damn near worn out, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a new one! 798... 798... 798...
  2. Eventually even the hoarded older rods will need replacing. Is there something that we can do as consumers to work around Revolution's unwillingness to acknowledge and correct the problem? Is there another rod manufacturer for that could start making them to the older specifications? Skyshark or someone else?
  3. Is it like this? http://www.wright-brothers.org/Adventure_Wing/Hangar/1899_Kite/1899_Kite.htm
  4. It took him about 5-6 weeks on mine if I remember correctly. In the ballpark anyhow. Mine was #143.
  5. Just tried it again and it worked fine. You got an order! Thanks John! Tim
  6. Tried to buy a couple of sets of your Rev leaders. When hitting the button "Proceed to Checkout" I get the following error message: Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_OBJECT_OPERATOR in /home/sat0ri/public_html/forum/applications/nexus/sources/Invoice/Invoice.php on line 1308 Help!
  7. I don't call it the walk of shame. It's the Walk of Contemplation. Gives you time to contemplate what went wrong to put you in that position. That's the one position that I can't recover from, only successfully done it once. Doesn't happen often, but when it starts happening more frequently I know it a sign that I'm getting tired and need to sit and take a break. Unless it's a cheaper kite that you don't mind abusing while you try to learn to recover, just take the walk. I know, I hate to do it too. EDIT: I tend to not stray too far from a beach somewhere but that picture reminded me of the beauty of those Great Smoky Mountains. Been too long since I've visited!
  8. For helping keep sand out of end caps, someone showed me one time to put soft vinyl end caps over the Rev end caps. Use a hole punch to punch a small hole in the tip of the vinyl end cap. This will act like a gasket to keep the sand from between the spars and the end cap. Works great.
  9. I didn't read anything in any of the responses that seemed snobbish to me. You asked experienced people about a potential kite purchase. They responded with their experienced opinions. You chose to ignore their experienced opinions and then imply that everyone that tried to help you out with their responses were snobs. Most of us that have flown for any length of time have run across people that wanted to get into kites, bought a cheap, poorly designed kite (not saying the Freebird is), had such a hard time flying it because of it's poor construction that they became very quickly turned off by it thinking that kite flying sucks. And usually after a couple of crashes that cheap kite was nothing more than a few broken parts. These experienced people whose opinions you asked for were trying to spare you this bad experience, you know, to actually help you learn from their experiences. Kind of like a teacher. Hope you enjoy your kite.
  10. Flying Smiles Kites in Corolla, NC. Cath and Eliot Shook have taken the most money from me, all gladly spent, the last several years. Kites Unlimited in Atlantic Beach, NC. Another great store that hasn't gotten as much from me simply because I don't get down there to visit as much as I'd like. Those two stores are REAL kite stores, run by real kite people. Real nice kite people too! (Isn't that usually the case?) Kitty Hawk Kites I frequent quite often and they get a bunch of my money for miscellaneous stuff simply for the fact they're convenient to where I fly a lot, which is Jockey's Ridge. There are a couple of folks in there that know a bit about kites, but for the most part the sales people aren't kite people. It's simply a store that happens to sell kites along with other stuff. Nice enough folks and there are stores galore, but not too knowledgeable, generally. Online, I've only ever dealt with a couple of places. Had to call Prism a time or two about certain things and they've ALWAYS been top-notch to deal with. Into the Wind was great to deal with as well. Fly Market Kitemaking Supply was friendly and easy to deal with when I ordered some items from them earlier this year. The US Postal Service.... Not so much. Express two day shipping shouldn't take two weeks. And there is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY to call someone to try to find where your package is and what happened to it. USPS customer service is a harsh, harsh joke and I can believe it's deliberately designed to make you "go postal". The words I want to use to describe how I feel about their customer service can't be used on this family friendly forum.
  11. I booked Friday and Saturday at Hollowell's. Still several rooms available there as of today, but it's expected to fill up fast, that weekend is also the Pirate Festival. I think I'll probably need to take Monday off from work to recuperate, but we'll see how it goes!
  12. The "Outer Banks Event Site" where many of the past kiting events such as the OBSKC and last year's AKA Convention is currently being turned into an outdoor concert venue I believe. I doubt they'll be having future kiting events there although I may be mistaken. Not sure where they'd move to, not everyone can make the trek up the dunes at Jockey's Ridge.
  13. Now THAT sounds like a perfect day!
  14. Jeepin, check out the Wings Across Carolina Kiting and Okra Society. The W.A.C.K.O.S. Generally fly out of the Charlotte area pretty regularly. I'd link their website but seems I can't do that at this time, hmmm.... Or if you ever head to the Outer Banks, give me a shout and I'll see what my work schedule is. I love to meet and fly with new folks!
  15. Nothing like a countdown to push you to make a commitment! Signed up, now just to get a place to stay for Saturday night. Any suggestions from you local folks? I'll be down there the previous week at a cottage, but don't know the hotel situation down there anymore. Should never have sold the house we had at Atlantic Beach! Looking forward to meeting and flying with everyone!
  16. Ha, I'll be down there all week... the week of July 25 to August 1 that is. Bleh. I'll try to see if I can get off that NEXT weekend as well, but I dunno if I'll be able to work it out. If there's anyway that I can though, I'll be there, space permitting.
  17. Thanks for posting! Although I should have known, I missed this event. Back to the doctor tomorrow as a follow up to knee surgery, hopefully he'll hold me out of work at least through next weekend so I can attend this both days. Haven't been to Virginia Beach in over 25 years, parking availability still leave a lot to be desired I assume? Bah, it doesn't matter. If I don't have to work I'll be there!
  18. Necessity is the mother of invention, where there's a will there's a way, and all that sort of stuff. Yada yada yada. I love it! This could very well be your master's thesis in your jury riggin' degree! Congrats! A country boy will survive...
  19. Awesome! It looks great, can't wait to see pictures of it in flight!
  20. Yep, but looks like you're getting the hang of it pretty well for the first time!! Looking good! Welcome to the addiction!
  21. Now that would look cool as a "lifeguard" by my pool!
  22. Gorgeous kite! Be patient with yourself when you get a chance to fly it. All the videos you see of folks doing amazing things with it are made to look so easy. It's not QUITE that easy! Your likely to get a bit frustrated when you're first starting out, but give yourself some time. Start off slow, trying to get a few basic maneuvers down consistently to begin with. Keep watching the videos, over and over and over, each time you fly and then watch the videos again you'll pick up more things that you've missed before. And ask questions on this forum, the Rev forum and on GWTW forum. Kite folks are some of the nicest people out there and love to help each other out. If any way possible, fly with other people. You'll pick up more tips and advice and lessen the learning curve tremendously if you can. And don't forget the most IMPORTANT thing! Have FUN!!!
