  1. Sweet! I'll have to give this one some thought...

Rexracer, have you been tempted by the 1/2 darkside? The gray side I suppose ;)

    -------------------------------------------------------------------

As of now there are five entrants. Pretty good odds and the RNG is getting near. I'm pretty stoked to have these great kites heading to a home where they'll be used!

I'm always tempted by any controllable kite, even though I fly mostly Revs. I've been busy and really don't have anything to put up right now, so I think I'll have to pass on this one.

If I can find the time to move forward with it, I'm trying to come up with a Go Pro mount for a Rev. I want to be able to see the kite and forward with the mount. I have a bunch of CF rods and lots of model airplane building supplies and hope to come up with a stable mount. Once I can do full speed dive stops and get good video of the ground rushing up, I'll be happy. If I manage to get it done, I'll be able to duplicate it. We'll see how things go this winter.

  2. 3 B 2's Nick. Really? I have no B 2's, no Pro's, no Mid Vent, no Indoor, no Zen, no B 1.5 full sail. I think this one should be mine just out of sheer pity! The 2 Revs I do have are stretched out and over used, and I still can't fly most days because neither will match my wind conditions. :(

Help me oh great RNG, you're my only hope!

    You really only need a B2 Standard, I've flown mine up to 25mph! It's a complete-laugh-a-minute animal!

So I'll take this one, introduce it to its long lost brother and tell you how it goes....

    I hear ya...so when I win I'll trade for a B2 std!

  4. Good advice all! The equal line length thing is really important on the 4D (especially for one handed flying!) since it does get fast and twitchy in higher winds. On the bright side, I've had mine up in 5-8 mph winds gusting to 12+ and though it was a bit hyper, and I had spars pop out twice due to the wind gusting and quiting on me, and I hit the ground twice doing the one hand two finger thing....I've never broken anything, so it seems to be pretty tough!

  5. I was right where you are about 13-14 years ago. Here are my thoughts FWIW.

First, good luck stunting a dual line. I still can't after 14 years, but I've never flown with anyone who could, so...

Now, I understand the $$ and wife thing, but I have to recomend getting a Rev. The control is amazing, and there is a lot you can learn from practice and videos. I'm of the opinion that slack line tricking really needs a mentor that can tell you what your doing wrong, or right. I'm no JB, but I'm good enough with a Rev after 2 years so that I can impress most non fliers and have a blast doing it without resorting to slack line tricks. Once you go over to the dark side, life will never be the same.

BTW, I have both the 4D and the Hypnotist. Both good kites and both pretty tough. I would say the Hypnotist would be the better bet since the 4D gets really hyper if the wind is above 3-4mph. On the plus side, it can be flown with 2 fingers on one hand!

  6. Missed most of this thread as it developed but I will add that I have learned more about how a kite, any kite, reacts to inputs on short lines than I did in any amount of time on long lines. It may be the quickness or the more direct connection but it is also that I can see the kite so much better. I don't think I would have ever even tried short lines if I had not had some guidance from the KiteLife Masters. Thank you! I am still the newbie but now it feels better....

I agree. I fly mostly on 50' lines, due in part to lousy wind. I would say that 75% of my flying I'm using my full sail SLE on 50' with race rods and I'm backing up almost constantly. If your wind is similar, one of the best "tricks" you can learn is what I call the "GRG"...The Ground Recovery Glide. Fly the kite to the top of the window, flip it like you're going into an inverted hoover, give it a tap on the brakes and give to the kite. Once you get the hang of it you can put the kite into a glide away from you and follow it to make up ground. Get it perfect and you can glide 100-150" even on 50' lines, though you may have to run a bit! If the wind is really light I'll fly for a minute or so while backing up at a good pace, then do the GRG 2 or 3 times to get back to my start point and do it all over again. Also, with 50' lines, if I'm feeling energetic I may even throw in a 360 to make up ground, too.
