  1. Ya, at this point, almost everything is automatic for me... There is a slight consciousness about the *detail* or *timing* of maneuvers, but not the mechanics.

See that's what I thought. I will keep practicing and I am sure it will start to click.

  2. I have a question... What is the best way to take my Rev kites on an airplane? Can you carry them on or do I need to get a tube and check them. I don't want the TSA telling me the spars are deadly weapons when I check through security.

  3. Hey Paul,

Hope you missed out on all that bad weather, that I saw on TWC, in Texas...............

ps.....I don't have anyone to fly with, either ! But hey, I've likewise learned through Kitelife.....cheers :big_beer:

Thanks, It missed me as I am in Kansas for work right now. but my wife had to duck and cover. the tornados hit a few miles from where I live. :sq-crazy:

  4. oops... anyway as I was saying such is life. I like the ideal flying for exercise, although I think I have too much fun to call it a workout. I will check the member map and if I ever get up your way I will send you a shout out. perhaps we could go and fly for a while.

Now I just need to figure out the colorizer for a mid vent.

    Fair winds and Thanks,

    Paul

  5. So I would like to take a census. Weather and wind permitting how often do you guys fly? The reason I ask is after finding and watching everything I can get my hands on with regards to quad line kites I am under the impression that many of you guys with videos out there could quite literally fly with your eyes closed. Not that you would want to do this for too long as seeing the kite is part of the allure, or it is for me anyway, but things I really have to concentrate on such as bicycle turns just seem so easy when I watch all of the videos. Now I know the years of experience attribute to this and I know I will get better at it, but it is as if there is an auto pilot or rather not a deep thought process that takes place. Is this just deep muscle memory set in your body? and did you recognize a point when you began doing skills and think to yourself "hey I am just doing that now not processing each part of the skill."

I have made leaps and bounds with my learning,or at least I think so. I am having a fun time learning anyway. I seem to have hit a plateau sort of stuck as of late. Is this normal? I travel all over the country for my job and my kites go along with me. I don't really have anyone to fly with so I have begun to rely on you guys to sound off of, also inspiration and a wealth of knowledge. Thank you Kitelife! you all are great!

I try and fly at least 3 or 4 times a week for an hour or so.

  6. Thanks John,

So, Fly, Fly, Fly! Got it, will do

Thank you for your advice. it is good to know that even the best sometimes have small issues. like "oops thats not what I meant to do :cat_shocked:"

I wonder are there any videos of Pro's giving feedback to aspiring Rev Pilots at a clinic? I have watched all of the tutorials again and again. And will probably watch them again. But it would be good to see some new pilots taking instruction and hearing your instruction.

  7. Rob - I'm not sure which topic you posted pix of the new std sail in! Mind posting here?

See I first flew a Rev 1 and got used to the flight dynamics of that wing, then I tried a Rev 2! I think it was even before or they were just coming out with the 1.5! Now the 1.5 is my preferred sail, but I adapt really fast to either of the other 2 wings because I've flown them and know their limits!

With the right frame and winds, I don't see why any of the sail models would be "wrong"!?

I have a question, I read somewhere that it is easier to learn on a Rev 1 is this true? Do you feel like you benefited from first leaning to fly on a Rev 1?

  8. Everyone will definitely have different opinions on what to get, so might as well throw my 1.5 cents in.

I just returned from the rev clinic in Long Beach this past weekend. We had winds ranging from -3mph to 25mph, blowing from North to South to East, back to North, then to West, and everywhere in between. Basically, we had it all. I was flying a borrowed Zen one minute, then 30 minutes later pulling out my full vent. Now, having only a standard 1.5 and a full vent pro, I'm missing the middle range just like you are. The great thing about the clinic was the chance to fly a bunch of different kites that I don't usually have access to. I was able to fly xtra and mid vents in addition to a zen and a super-fun 5 stack of B2's. Having flown just about everything this weekend, I would say if the winds you usually fly in are between 0 and 20mph, go for a mid-vent. It's a great combo offering the smoothness of a vented sail with the crisp sail loading you get with a standard (and that a full sail just cannot produce in lighter winds). Plus, if you have a range of frames available, those three sails would really cover the majority of winds you are likely to encounter. You can fly your full vent well into the 20mph range, so unless you're flying in the high 20mph range regularly, an xtra can wait for your next order (it will come, someday...get ready).

Not having flown any of the masterpiece kites, I can't comment on the vent layout in comparison to the B-series paneling, but if I were buying another sail, I would go for a Pro model hands down. It may be a bit more costly, but it's worth every single penny. I have had a chance to fly everything from 1.5 to B-series to B-series Pro, and I can say there is a quite notable difference between the 1.5 and the B-series. The B-series takes the cake no challenge. Not only does the panel layout make a difference in the way the kite handles, but the material makes quite an improvement also. That said, there is also a notable difference between the B-series and the Pro models. Somehow, having Bazzer's fingerprints all over the sail makes those things fly on a whole new level. The material used for the pros is phenomenal, and the attention to detail is incredible. For example, the corners of the leading edge are folded over and sewn so there is no chance for fraying material. The sensation of flying a pro model is something not to be missed, and it definitely will make you glad you made the investment.

The real question becomes, what colors will you choose? Better get busy with that colorizer...

Interesting topic. I am curious can you tell a deference between the B- series and the B- series Pro? Do the kites have the same cut and patterns? I too have a std and a B- full vent and sometimes get frustrated switching between the two kites only to find too much wind for the Std and not enough for the vented? I guess Mid vent is the answer. So what would y'all buy a B-pro or a Polo mid vent? with out flying both I could not make a good judgment. The Polo kites look really cool but the best flight characteristics are paramount, I would much rather have a better flying kite than one that looks really cool but I struggle to control. What dose every body think???

  9. I've seen the other video of Terry Rankin painting with a Rev... such a cool idea.

*hint* ....I bet if there were some other top pilots that would try this, (maybe even a collaboration)

the resulting artwork would probably bring some good $$$ at auctions & raffles.... *hint*

    :ani_whistling:II agree

I've chosen a Polo Kite to be my Rev mid-vent. I think they look amazing, and it looks like they fly pretty well, too. My initial hesitation to get into Revs was my dislike of the factory look. There's not much that can be done about the shape, I guess, but the patterns leave a lot to be desired, too. Bazzer's eyes look real nice (as well as most of the masterpiece series) but the premium is pretty high. THe Polo versions are only ~$50 more than a factory stock sail. Seems like a bargain to me !

It's funny you say that as I was considering the same option as I already have a Std. and a B-full vent. Although I think it will be hard to beat the flight characteristics of the B-series that is why I asked if anyone had flown the Polo kites. The patterns are cool.

  10. Well that says it all, " true true," I have gotten so much info out of a simple question and have really enjoyed reading everyone's input. It has renewed my vigor for kite flying and makes me want to try new things and combos of things . Fair winds to you all.

  11. I ordered the full vented because by reading other post I gleaned that having a standard sail and a full Vented sail will cover most wind conditions. But now I am confused about which rod set to use. I am pretty sure then vented B series I ordered from wind of change comes standard with a 3 and 4 wrap set of rods. I also have the ultra light set that came with my SLE are those similar to a 2 wrap set of rods? I know I will be able to experiment to see what works best for me in what wind conditions, but I read a lot of talk about race rods is this something that would help in a gusty situation? and should I order a set?
