  1. Got a chance to fly this kite on the beach a few days ago for the first time ever.  I was flying a few figures & going through my meager collection of tricks.  An observer walked up & asked me if I was a professional flier.  I laughed of course & said "No, just an advanced beginner."  So I proceeded to explain & demonstrate for a bit. Well it turned out to be the best dualie flying I had ever done & this on my first flight with Stuart's fine kite.  Once in awhile I have a special moment with a kite.  I will remember that one for a long time.

    Thank You Stuart,  SHBKF

  2. So is this shot called "X marks the spot" or perhaps "Dazed & confused"?  Love this stuff.  My first thoughts of this kind of adventure go back several years to RobB talking about bar flying with a piece of beach driftwood.  He is another of my KiteLife mentors.  You guys are the best.  Thanks, SHBKF

  3. What a great picture with the tails trailing off seemingly almost to infinity.  And what an inspiration to us other fliers!  As I progress in my KiteLife I am continually encouraged & challenged to go just a bit further.  The example shown here would be a giant leap for someone like a solo hill billie kite flailer.  But now it has me thinking about the real reason I may have acquired two Zephyrs sometime back.  There are very few, if any, coincidences in life.  Hmmm....need another tail.   SHBKF

  4. The stack looks so good in the air.  I would like to know the distance between the kites if I might ask.  I would like to duplicate that look in my SLE stack.  Maybe someday someone will honor my memory by keeping it together & flying it once in a while.  I'll post some images when I get it sorted out.    SHBKF

  5. I simply cut the end off with the main blade of my trusty Victorinox Swiss Army Knife.  You can see a little round black spot laying there in the image.  I then carefully trimmed it up to make the ends square.  The end caps are indeed from McMaster-Carr, an industrial supply house that I ordered from thousands of times when I worked in manufacturing.  I ordered many different diameters & lengths to use with kites.  I probably have fifteen bags or more.  I even have some white ones that I have used on Rev handle mods.  SHBKFgallery_7709_404_190526.jpg

  6. Really like the image of Alden's kite showing the lines clearly.  The droop shows the light pull of the kite & the lower lines sagging more show the kite is flying mainly on the top set at that moment.  Maybe about time to step back & give a pull to make the next turn.  When flying four line foils it looks the similar much of the time.  They are generally flown on the top set of lines with the brake lines drooping a bit.  A bit of even tension on the brake lines will usually cause the foil to back down as they don't really like to hover.  A Revolution type kite is a single skin and willingly rewards the flier with a nice hover.  Foils need forward speed to stay inflated & keep flying.  I flew kites for some time before I payed much attention to the lines & what they could tell you.  One of the more dramatic things I have seen is when I have flown the large Power Blast Revs.  At times, when the wind is light, I will be crossing the window at medium height with the leading edge vertical and actually flying the kite on only one line as the brake lines are slack & the lower leading edge line is slack to give the kite enough angle to maintain it's position without dropping.  The PB series kites are stiffer kites and will behave quite differently lighter framed Rev 1, 1.5 & 2 kites.  Perhaps the new Reflex is more like that also.  Know Eye Deer but hope to get one soon.

Just some thoughts from out here in the field, SHBKF
