Most of the snow melted off the beach from the salt spray, but I had to trudge through knee deep drifts to get on the beach... Still worth it, gotta fly !

Flying SportkiteDesign's Seven in challenging winds. The winds have been high every time I get a chance to go out and fly this fall & winter. I've been flying the vented Rev a lot, but decided to break the boredom, and try some tricks on the edge of the window. Can't wait for winds half this speed...

Nice flying, Rick. Hope to see you out on the field somewhere this year.

Agreed. The Yard Sale is my favorite part of the page... never know what's going to show up there. Plus, you can get one of the coolest kite shirts ever... 'Eye Fly'. Check the shirt...

If you want to stick with Prism kites, go with the Hypnotist. I'm sure the ITW Kymera would be a better choice than the E3. There's also the Silver Fox and the Widow that would be in your price range. For around $300, you could get the Widow Maker, which is currently my goto kite. It has a great balance of trickiness and precision, and a wide wind range. Good luck with your choice... Rob.

Hey Jeremy... Looks like you're enjoying that Kymera. I hope you got your VF footage in addition to this video. It's pretty hard this time of year to get a good flying day on a weekend (Murphy's Law), and it's too dark to shoot after work. I did find that flying in the dark can help to sharpen up your feel for the kite. 8) Good luck in the VF contest, hopefully I'll have my entry in, too. ~Rob.

In addition to the RandyG tutorial, I found this tutorial useful for me... http://youtu.be/TExHtY0RUJw I'm still not sure if I can do the 1/2 axel correctly. Like John said, if you can find some skilled pilots to watch & learn from, you will be on a much faster learning curve. Take it from someone who flies alone, it takes f-o-r-e-v-e-r to learn this stuff... ~Rob.

Name: Widow Maker August 2011... Category: Dual Line Date Added: 02 November 2011 - 06:40 AM Submitter: Must86 Short Description: Just some clips of flying the Widow Maker this summer... This is the last time I had my video camera with me while flying... looked like someone needed to start the Dual Line category... No, no, no, the bear doesn't speak for all of us ! I still need 1 or two Bs to cover the wind range... and I am a big fan of purple kites ! 8)

Why is it that I had the idea that you might have more than one Kymera ?

Well, I didn't get a Kymera for my birthday, so I'm eagerly awaiting the results of this drawing. Fingers crossed....

Wow, John ! I'm glad your travels were safe, and you got home in one piece. You're a lucky guy to have seen so much of the world, and been able to fly with the world kite community. The kind of stuff I would do if I won the lottery... Sorry I couldn't break free to come down to Jersey and hang out with you guys, but having 3 kids under the age of 4 is pretty time consuming. I'm lucky to get and hour or two to fly each week. Hope you get a chance to take a breath and relax before your next trip. ~Rob.

Hey John... I have spent at least the last year working on trying to make my tricks look more delibrate, and less like the kite is broken, so Thank You ! Thanks ! gotta love flying at the bottom of a kite's wind range... Hey there... My videos are a learning tool for me. I watch them to try to tell what I'm doing wrong, and sometimes post them to a forum, and ask the members what I'm doing wrong. I've only ever flown with other people who can trick MAYBE 5 times, so video learning is very important to figuring this whole thing out. I watched your video, it's a good start, and you probably figured out that you need to move the camera back. Nice lookin' kite, BTW. ~Rob.

I put these clips together after taking out my VF20 clip. Just some fun flying, out at the beach with a gentle 5mph wind. If you have a few minutes, check it out... The kite is a Skyburner Widow Maker on 75' lines. ~Rob.

Now there's one that catches my eye ! It also woke me up to the fact that my KL subscription ran out on Sept.1st. Yikes ! If I get a Kymera for my birthday before the drawing (it's on my list), I'll pass it along to one of my quad-line obsessed buddies... maybe a kite like the Kymera is just what they need to break the Rev spell...

OK, if I win you can have it... I all ready won a Kitelife kite. Same color, as the case may be, too. 'Sides, I might only have one Rev, but I have a few other 4 line kites...
-
OK... that's a nice looking kite, could really round out my Rev bag. Vented & standard... that's all you need, right ? Maybe this one's coming to Exile Long Island ! ~Rob.
-
Hahaha ! That was great... Looks like you've got some crazy nuts in the UK, too ! Cheers.
-
I always have my rev set up, when I'm at the beach. I fly from 10:00am to sunset, 20 minutes at a time with 10 to 20 minute breaks.... Even my kite flying friends think I'm nuts. That sounds good to me... I could use a nice flying day like that. Nice shots, I especially liked the Widow & pilot shot. ~Rob.
-
oh, no... another dual line flier lost ! (just kidding, even I have a Rev in my bag now...) 4InKite, do you happen to fly with RickH & Dodd ever? I think they're out your way. ~Rob.

Well, the power's back on, and just to make sure we lit every light in the house ! This was no where near as bad as it could've been. The best part is it brought all the neighbors out of thier houses and forced them to hang out with each other. We didn't loose any trees in our yard, but it looked like someone left a tree chipper on in our backyard overnight ! So, I put some pictures up, but they're certainly not as bad as other areas that got hit. http://ferob.com/pictures.php?folder=/HurricaneIrene/&PHPSESSID=425ca908edf891b52057627b8fa322ad Just pictures walking down the block & the town. ~Rob.

Hey there... I have to go to work to get an internet connection, but other than that... we're getting along. I even got to use my chainsaw for the first time in a few years. Good fun. I'll get some pictures up later if the utilities are back in place when I get home. ~Rob.
