  1. I woke up and thought Teflon tape. Light weight and you can stretch it for a secure attachment.
  2. Using the tape only, makes the light somewhat unreliable depending how well it is taped. Here is 2 small strips of velcro glued to each other on each side of the stick. Then attach lights to the velcro. Maybe add a rubber band.
  3. night flying will probably be light winds. I didn't consider that. I like the idea of stripping everything off and taping on just what is needed.
  4. That I don't know. I'm not sure this will work yet. When I get the radios in my hands and see if this setup was assembled correctly, I should be able to answer more questions. All I am doing here is copying what Brett put in his article. I have only seen team flying on youtube. I'm trying to document all the assembly steps so that someone can copy me if they want.
  5. They didn't have any 9.5K resistors, but they had 4.7K. So 2 of them equals 9.4K and Pop said that was close enough. They didn't have any 4K resistors, but a 3.3K plus two 330 ohm equals 3.96K and that's ok also. (I gotta return the 470 ohm ones) The 4.7uF turned out to be a capacitor and they had those. A 3.5mm plug is 1/8" plug. A 2.5mm plug and jack is 3/32". I bought enough to make 2 sets so you will have a backup. All those parts make this cable only. The rest should be easy.
  6. I ordered on Tuesday and they arrived today Thursday. When you buy 10 pieces of one kind they throw in a couple of extra batteries. They also sent me a couple of freebie lights. Here's a promo code for you guys to get a 10% discount.
  7. I went to Radio Shack and found the parts Also found a multi charger
  8. It looks like all the links still work for buying the units and supplies. The schematic is Greek to me, but my dad knows it real well. I will make the dohicky mixing cable first and see how it goes. When do you need it by?
  9. I just found this. It's this what you are looking for? http://kitelife.com/other/technology/radio-equipment-for-team-flying/ July 31, 2012 | 1 Comment Radio Equipment for Team Flying Posted by: Brett Howard Recently I had the pleasure of attending the first annual Rev Team Boot Camp led by Team iQuad. One of the requirements for this clinic was a radio. These radios allow a team to share common music, ease the strain on the team leaders voice, and greatly improve call clarity across the team. This article’s intention is to share my research and opinions with regard to radios and team flying. I’d already purchased my first pair of radios so that my wife and I could fly with a small team on a trip to Cancun. The radios on this trip were used for calls only as the music was played over a PA system. I was really pleased with the enhanced intelligibility especially with the ambient noise level while standing in the surf. When you’re not following a choreographed routine, added call clarity can make a very noticeable difference in the cohesion of the team, as it takes that half a second “what did he say” processing time out of the equation. When it came to flying at the team clinic there were three teams learning the same routine at the same time on the beach. Each team needed to start and restart the music in their own time. This simply is not feasible via any sort of PA or boombox system. Feeding the music and the calls into the radio all together is the best way to do this. Some people have found that using a pair of small wearable speakers while wearing a headset has allowed them to accomplish this task. I’ve reverse engineered a Midland headset and put together a simple circuit that allows for easy mixing of the voice and music and its very simple to build. I’ll cover this circuit at the end of this article.
  10. This should get you started. http://www.100candles.com/t/Floralytes/LED/String-Lights Ed

  13. That is how I land it these days. I didn't think of just repeating the move. Good to know. Thanks
  14. I remember when you made that discovery during your learning. I even took a screen shot so I could refer to it.
  15. Thanks Wayne, I will try that. The second day at the river, I put up 4 SLKs and practiced flying or hovering around them. Sometimes I would catch a tail or line from one of the other kites and they would start spinning. The trick was to reverse the spin and get out of it.
  16. I remember that the ferrule broke when I was practicing my inverted hover, not during a spin. I found that I had more control of the inverted hover if I move the kite way over to the right side of the wind window. Any inv hovers attempted downwind or on the left side would just go out of control quickly. I spent the last 4 days practicing 4 hours a day learning how to fly. It was a rocky/sandy beach on the Russian River. From 10am to 6pm it would blow steadily 10-15 mph. Learning was pretty easy in those conditions. Water starts were fun. Any attempts at inv hovers usually ended with crashes. The leading edge was showing signs of abuse so I opted to practice inv hovers on a sandy beach or lawn.
  17. I have a kickstand on my SLE standard after reading the latest threads on the subject. Did I mention that in "2 minutes" he had control of the kite that took me hours to do. He had a couple of crashes on the lawn that didn't really concern me at all. And one time when he was going to have a hard crash, the kid ran forward to soften to blow before I could say anything. The movie "Searching for Bobby Fisher" came to mind and I looked closely at this kid who barely came up to my navel, And thought, he looks at bit like a young JB.
  18. And says "hey mister, can I try that" I'm at Berkeley Cesar Chaves park. It's blowing 10-15 with gusts. The JB pro full vent is in the air and I have about 25 hours total flying time on quads. I remember a story about someone not letting someone try their kite when asked. Didn't want to be that guy. So I turn around and he is about 8 I'm guessing. And I told him to hold out his two index fingers. And I hook the already flying kite handles in his fingers. He got an idea of the pull and a little steering for about 10 seconds. Then I showed him how to hold the handles, how to launch, how to flip over a kite that's inverted, and in 2 minutes he was launching and landing and holding a hover. Yelling for his folks "hey Mom, Dad! Look what I can do" They drove away asking how much a starter package costs. Then the wind picked up to 25 with gusts and things were starting to get out of control. I thought back to JB line video and wished for heavier line. Luckily Tom's kite truck was right there and he had 175# 250# &350# 100' line sets. I picked the 250# and was flying again for a while doing much better until I tried to do a spin and it bowtied and broke a ferrule. Good day of flying
  19. I showed up to say Hi and take a few pics yesterday.
  20. This will be my first kite festival. Maybe I will meet some of you guys there.
  21. I was just thinking yesterday that I need more aerostakes. Mine Thanks Carolyn
  22. I moved into my van to escape the Tom Cruise cult. A surf bum said "Once you go mobile, you never go back" I just laughed at him. 8 yrs full time this month. Freedom is sweet indeed. It's a Beautiful Day
