  1. Has anyone flown both the Wala and the Grace? How do they compare? Thanks, Amber
  2. I am hoping to find something that will be fun to learn some "tricks", if that's even possible. I've built only one kite. I think it is a Borelli glider, but I built it as a club meeting where all the supplies were already set up. Where can I get supplies to build the Ninja?
  3. I love my Wala and indoor gliders; can someone recommend an ultralight fighter kite? Either one to buy or where to find very detailed plans? Thanks.
  4. Hi, all. I teach high school math and got into kites because we build Tetrahedral Kites out of tissue paper and coffee stirrers every spring. I have a few light wind dual line kites and a Wala glider kite, and I would like to start a club here for my students to get to learn to fly. BUT - I am such a beginner myself. Does anyone have any hints or tips for getting an after-school club started? I think the interest is there with the kids - they ask ALL year long, "When are we building/flying the kites?" I only know of one other local who flies sport kites. Thanks for any help! Amber Lee

  11. Thanks, y'all! I'm still new to kiting, just got a NikNak last summer. This was such a happy surprise! Beautiful kite, can't wait for good flying weather to try it out. Now if I could just order an instructor to go with it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    New to NikNak

I practiced tonight! When I'm carrying the NikNak (by its top bar) out to the field, it always seems like it's wanting to float/fly behind me, so I practiced walking in little circles and sort of swinging it, on short lines, to get a feel for how it wants to fly or glide. I managed to actually FLY it for almost half a circle around me, and made a nice landing, as opposed to a crash! Boy, this kite is built like a tank - it has taken many nose dives and bounces and still looks like it just came out of the bag. I learned a bit more about its handle, so short or not, it was a good outing. I bought a pair of finger straps - do y'all have different straps on each set of lines? I'm still practicing with my cheap lines, and I cut my finger just about every time handling the string barehanded. Thanks to everyone for your help.

I teach math, so I believe in learning thru making mistakes.... So y'all are basically telling me to practice what I preach, right? Practice, practice, practice. Keep launching til I can keep the kite in the (no wind) air. I think I got 5 seconds more aloft yesterday than the last time out . So there's progress!

I just want to be able to get one flying, do some gentle turns and loops. Nothing fancy or fast.

Would the 4D have flown today when your NikNak didn't? If so, I'll order one tonight.

Took the kite out in the pasture tonight. Definitely the longer lines help with reaction time. No wind, though, still no actual flying. Is there any beginner no-wind kite?

    New to NikNak

I'm thinking of taking my NikNak to school with me one day this week. The yard behind my classroom seems to always have some wind. A couple of classes fly small tetrahedral kites out there each year.

Trip, did you get to fly today?

Do y'all use finger straps on your lines?

Yes! I got my longer lines attached and did better keeping the kite up. Haven't had enough free time to really work on it. If it doesn't rain more this weekend, maybe!

That would be great. I'd like to see how to fly this kite in real life, too, instead of just online videos.

I finally got longer lines attached. I can see the difference, more time to react. Still can't stay in the air, but I was trying it out in a small area. Maybe tomorrow / this weekend! I'm using lines from the dollar store, on plastic winders. With little/no wind, that should be okay, right? Did you fly any?

I go thru Lindale a couple of times a week between jobs. I'm in Winona.

Thanks for the tips, everyone. Maybe tomorrow I'll get to try out my longer lines. Robert, do you ever fly with the Dallas club? Do you fly with other kiters in the area?
