  1. Since I don't know much about kites I would like to ask you guys this question. Will having a bigger kite be funner then a smaller kite if i'm not going to be doing a lot of tricks ?

    Chet! How was the beach???

    And the Magnum?

    :blink::)

    Was great to meet you!

    Theresa

I haven't gone yet. My family is coming from the east coast in 10 days, and we are going. I can't wait. It was nice meeting you and i appreciate the tips you gave me. I might ask here before I go again because im sure I will forget everything by then :) .

  2. The bigger the better. I don't know what kind of tricks I will be able to do anyways. I just see myself doing figure 8's etc. When I go to the coast I'm going with my family and we will be doing other things too, so I will only have like 4 hours to play around with it. But hopefully I will fall in love with it and go down more often to fly a kite.

  3. Thanks for the links guys. I thought I was at that site yesterday but it was in a different language.

Chet, I have the Jump in stock at The Kite Shoppe. ;)

    Theresa

I will most likely give you a call this week. The only thing about the Jump that makes me think of getting something else is its size. 63" isnt huge, but it might work for me.

  4. I don't know what kite I should get and hope that anyone here can help. I am looking to buy an inexpensive kite, because I don't get to fly it much. I am heading to the Oregon coast soon. I would like a kite that will fly in little wind and also in heavier wind. Seems like sometimes when I go to the coast it's either really windy or not. It must be a dual line and I don't think I will do many tricks, I just like to do the figure 8 and basic stuff like that. I would also like to fly it near the ground and do some flips, so Im sure it will get some minor crashes.

Are the quad line kites hard for beginners? I liked how the revolution exp looked on youtube but don't know if it would be worth it for me to spend close to 200 bucks for something that I will only get hours of play on it. I like how it stopped really quick and looked very controllable spinning . Thanks for any info

Added- Also the bigger the kite the better It would be for me. I want it to be wide.

Also suggestions on where to buy the kite online.

  5. Also if anyone could recomend a website that I can buy from that is reputable and wont rip me off..I am thinking of getting the Acrobatx or the big bang. Also i need to buy a Wren kite also.I was thinking if i just buy it now i could get a dvd that will show me some basics.I wont be able to try them untill i go but i would have a better idea.

  6. Just to talk more about kites I have made my choice and its between the Acrobatx and the Big Bang.I was sure i was gonna get the Acrobatx but now im just thinking more.Im curious to what people think would do for a newbie like myself.Rob posted a good post about the 2 im just looking for anyone elses opinion on these 2 ..I dont know any tricks and probably will buy the kite at the place im going to fly it so im not gonna get to learn any tricks from a dvd.I have any wind where i live so i couldnt practice at all. Thanks again.

  7. Thanks for the link.Im sure you guys get newbies in here all the time asking the same questions..I do have a question though. In the post you linked too the Acrobatx was suggested and i noticed that on a few websites it says its Intermediate to Advanced.Im i intermediate,I have never flown one before.Im pretty sure i can figure it out as i do for most things and thats half the fun..I just dont want to buy a kite that is over my skill...

  8. Howdy this is my second topic in these forums and hope I can get some great suggestions like i did with my other post.I decided to look for a wren kite for my no wind situation at home,But Im pretty sure im going to be headed down to the coast "Lincoln city" in Oregon soon.Im not sure how strong the wind is there but It seems to be pretty windy most of the time. The last time I was there there were some people having problems flying kites but i dont know if it was just them not knowing what to do.

I would like to spend 100 or less for the kite and strings and handles etc.Im assuming just a 2 stringed kite is what i want unless i should go quad not sure for beeing a newbie to the whole thing,or if quads are even that cheap..I would like the kite to be as big as possible. Some of the cheaper ones i have seen at the beach look really small, like 3 ft at the most wide..Im assuming I would want a 4 ft wide or bigger so it could be used when the wind isnt as fast etc..Thanks for any suggestions.I cant wait to go fly a kite soon..

  9. Yep, Wren would work.

After looking online the Wren seem to be in my price rage for my first kite.I dont want to buy anything over 200 just in case i dont like the experice flying kites..Now I just need to find one online for as cheap as i can get..Maybe even used..Off to ebay. Thanks again for all the comments and suggestions. And I would love to hear anymore if anyone has anything else to say.Im sure im going to be posting a different thread if i go to the beach in less then a week..

Forgot to ask what is the best kite line string for the Wren in low to no wind ,It seems like they come in a pound ratted way like fishing line..Thanks

  10. No such thing as a stupid question here, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. :blushing:

Indoor kites provide ultralight abilities, versatility, and a little more durability than an ultralight "outdoor kite"... The outdoor versions are generally higher performance, but tend to be a little more fragile, requiring a gentler, more skilled hand.

Based on what I've read from you so far, it sounds like an indoor kite might be the best choice for now... Along those lines, I tend to favor the Wren and iKnack as having good lift, and for their durability.

    I hope that helps. :matrix:

So the Wren will work outside as well without me running around like a chicken with its head cut off :w00t: ..I cant belive there is no wind rite where i live.

  11. I just stepped outside and there is no wind at all.Im assuming i need one of the indoor kites to fly in no wind situation ?..every now and then you can feel the breeze blowing but nothing worth getting excited about. My question now is should i buy one that is indoors or are there other kites that will work better with little to know wind that i wont have to run around to keep it in the air.Sorry my questions seem stupid but i know nothing about kites at all.thanks again guys.

  12. Indeed Chet, we'll be out at the field next to Portland International Raceway (West Delta Park) this coming Sat and Sun... Probably between noon and 4pm, maybe longer.

Lots of room, decent wind... Come on out. :blushing:

Bummer my sister and hubby are gonna be out for a full week and we mite be going to the coast I mite just have to buy a cheap under 100 dollar kite to play with at the coast..Maybe i can get them to head to portland too..Im about 45 mins from portland and 2 hours from the coast. Her hubby really wants to the see the beach here on the west coast.

For the kite here in Eagle creek im still not sure if i want to buy a low wind kite but i really want too.Is it possible to fly them without moving around alot like i see on the videos im seeing of people doing them indoors.I would really like to be able to stand in one place without running around. Thanks for any info guys and thanks for the info on the portland event.

  13. Thanks for the suggestions guys.Do you guys know of any online video's i can see these guys in action..Sorry i know nothing about kites are really want to get into flying them. Also i noticed some videos on youtube of indoor flying are these kites like that.I see them running around to keep the kite up.Would i have to be running around.I dont mind the arm movement but I would want to fly it without running around all the time.I hope that makes sence..Thanks again.

  14. I live in Eagle Creek Oregon and we have wind sometimes but not even close enought to fly a kite.Im curious if anyone can tell me if there are kites that will work with little to no wind.I would like the kite to go in circles and fly around it doesnt need to do really big tricks.Im just asking because i have no idea if a kite like this is even made. Thanks for your time and for any info.
