  1. Believe it or not, I don't actually fly locally very much... Sometimes though, I get the itch and wander out to one of my favorite Portland haunts. They all have one thing in common, pretty variable winds of anywhere from 0-8 mph with changing directions... Fact is, that stuff really gets me off and I'm very much at home with it. This time out I went to Eastbank Esplenade, on the east side of the Willamette River, immediately north of the Hawthorne Bridge - $1 per hour parking, all concrete or asphalt and mostly covered by two overpasses (I-5) so it works even when it's raining.
  2. I purchased a Rev 1.5 SLE back some time ago. There is a long list of thinks that kept me from flying it. But glad to say I'm leaving for the beach in the morning and it's packed in the truck. I've watched all of the training videos on the Rev kites but I don't seem to find anything about the first launch for a beginner quad person. So my first question is do you try to start inverted with the handles staked like the gentleman shows in the line management video and make the kite roll over, or set it in the upright position with the top leaning back to keep it on the ground? My second question is how do you know that you have the correct setup at the handle? Example how do you know you have the line length at the top and bottom correct? Is there a neutral position? Thanks in advance for your help!
  3. Mike, Rose and Steve, three members of the 180 GO! Revolution kite flying team, perform with their personal kites over and near a 360 degree video camera at Montrose Beach in Chicago, Illinois. We had a small group from the Illinois Kite Enthusiasts http://www.ikeclub.org show up on March 28 at frozen Montrose Beach. I placed my 360 video camera about 8 inches off the sand and asked Mike, Rose and Steve to fly their Revs in the area. The camera perspective and optics makes it appear that they were flying a distance away. For much of the time they had the kites within about 25 feet. The final landing was about 3 feet from the camera. It's great to fly with these folks. They are very helpful to a beginner like myself. Letting me jump into the group and do whatever I feel that I can do. And yet gently nudge me to do better. That's me off to the side with my spiral. Airborne for a few seconds until I decided to just watch the masters. More photos: https://www.facebook.com/events/1595871713961606/ Bill
  4. For the first time in a long while...things felt good. So here is some of it before i head out for todays session..with some funky boobtube tune. No Barresi or Underwood stuff here....but sure felt good to get back in the swing of things. Stella!:

  8. I had to make some repairs to my old full vent this evening. While I was at it...I went ahead and made another mod Mr. Paul Lamasters and Mr. Paul Dugard had mentioned several times before. To start..I added extra "tabs" at the folding points and the center bridle point in the l.e..... I will load some pics later. This gives you 7 tab attachment points in between the l.e. and the actual sail. This is well worth it in my opinion. Prolonges overall life of the kite and the l.e. mesh. The next mod..bungee covers on the lower verticals. I dig this one...and super simple. I used whatever material i had available. Just so happened to be a variety of webbed strapping. Sort of heavy...but all in the name of learning and old sails. I would definitely use a l.e. type material for these mods. These mentioned items will be done to all my new sails........ What do you do to trick your ride?
  9. Out to enjoy some sun today after alot of rain. Sunshine and 4 to 8 mph out of the NNE....that's butta for an east coast guy. I was KAPing and Reving off and on,so i figured what the heck. I already know of the twisting outcome....but it will be fun right? 6 minutes of dangling video during some Rev play.Fun:
  10. The B2 stack chat got me craving another multiples creation. So as stated...a Progressive was thrown together. B2 (2 wrap) B (3 wrap) Rev 1 (4 wrap) at around a 4' spread. I test flew on some 50#x50' Shanti Skybond in a light breeze and all felt good... The next day brought on some highly variable wind..up a down..all around.. but it gave me the chance to get some long lines out and let the 3some breathe. I flew 90#lpg x80' for a few. The gust were pretty strong and I have broken 90# several times with stacks. So I switched..200#lpgx100'. Here are the results... Of course the wind dies when you hit record. .. 7 minutes of raw..no editing...just a debut run. Things went well. Rev 1 needs some new shock cord to bring reactions up some...but all in all...great first roll. Progressive Fun:
  11. What an adventure! 4 days of sun up to sun down flying with AWESOME people. A few loaded pics and a link to whats uploaded already. Some videos and more pics in the next day or so. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/k1movjyebbsk0qs/AADGqPljL-fsyoFzOK7uppr_a
  12. A little news clip from Friday. Mr. Boyton stopped in town. Jacksonville, Florida and we did some kiting. Started out geared as a K.A.P. run but the wind was non cooperative....so Rev play indeed This is right next to Everbank Field..Home of the Jaguars...also right on the banks of the St. Johns River... Downtown Jacksonville
  13. Took our new members extra for a spin in Treasure Island...Ty sir Beautiful kites!
  14. Here are a couple shots of my new night time playground I found on the web tonite browsing. I have flown here during the day, but it gets a little crowded. There are many obstacles..trees,light poles...tall and short. Some nice soft grass for the warm barefoot nights. Across the street is a full city block the same width as pictured....with A LOT of the above obstacles. I fly mainly 50' lines here if the wind is smooth.....otherwise its down to 30' and can be challenging, but thats what makes it fun! This being the heart of Jax Beach ...and night time... It can have its moments with patrons from local establishments....... . Jax Beach Sea walk Pavilion

  17. Living the nite life now and find my flying sessions are becoming short and sweet in multiple locations. Be it on foot or traveling by vehicle. My 30' lines have not seen a winder in quite awhile and stay on the handles. As I start my day today...energy drink down.. and prepare to go flying in the nite. I had a query... What do you do? Do you break the kite down every time? Take the lines loose? I find a lot of my vehicle travels...I won't do anything but roll lines on handle still connected to the kite and fold leading edge.....but on foot I will break the kite down completely and lines on the handles. Also I have 1 set of handles with multiple Kites and line sets but normally only using one kite in this type of journey. Looking forward to everyone's style or flavor..... I'm off to " Go fly a kite!"
  18. What measures do you take to get people together for just some plain old fun? I have tried several times to get some locals together...and it always fails for one reason or another. I am in no way stopping my efforts, just wondering what steps others take to make it happen. I work funky hours on days when most are relaxing..so it makes it tuff sometimes. Most of my flying is in the weee hours of the mornings now...but still want to make it happen. I have heard some horror stories over permits and city participation from not far away...but I'm looking for more fun then festival for starters. Anyways, input and thoughts are greatly appreciated

  21. I am selling my 2005 Synergy Deca 15 Quad Kite. It has been flown twice always on grass and only to test it out. There are no rips, tears or discolorations. Even the bridal is in new perfectly clean condition. It is my understanding that Guildworks is either no longer making these or at the least it is very difficult to get one. When I purchased mine back in 2005, I had to wait over six months for delivery. I am taking offers at this time. Look for my other listings on this site for a Synergy Zero Wind Great Deca (same condition and same year), as well as these other kites that are also in new condition. I have a Benson Airbow quad kite, a Revolution Indoor quad kite, a White Bird Firebird single line kite and a Whitebird dragon single line kite.
