  1. What are you focusing on now? Which exercises or figures are you returning to? What is learned from them? A post of yours regarding a certain exercise might include (baked in) answers to a few of these questions: What are you working on now/recently? What did you learn and how did you do it? What do you think your hands/body were doing (if you were successful)? Why is it a good exercise for you? What was the feeling? Come on don’t be shy – even the silliest comparison/analogy/image might talk to someone. What were the necessary steps/skills/realizations before this exercise? What kite and line length do you prefer to use for the drill? What are the most favourable conditions to start out doing the exercise? Are there any other exercises or context in any form of kiting where your recently gained wisdoms are applicable to, like medium wind kiting with longer lines or perhaps kiting with another number of lines? If you didn’t post the exercise, but instead tried to follow the advice given, how did it go, are there any remaining question marks? Can something be described in another way? Perhaps you want to repeat an exercise suggestion, but in your way? It is fine to return to this topic if you realize something more about a drill/exercise half a year later or so, whether you originally posted the suggested exercise or not. 1, 2 or 4 lines are all fine, but consider to clarify if not obvious. Typically used line length? Without knowing it, you might be holding a piece of somebody's puzzle or provide an exercise that unlocks another ability for someone. Expressing something for someone else clarifies it for yourself as well. Sing it out!!

  3. From the album: Exult's Photos

To use this today not very crowded ferry port for kiting I made a 4x8.2m 38kg line set from an old DLK line set (that a SLK polyester line had cut off earlier). I have never tried this short QLK length before, but longer lines would not have been practical in this place. I'd say that there was little interference with the traffic. The cars waiting to get on the ferryboat have their engines off while waiting - this was the time available for kiting. The two times when the ferry was approaching during the session, minutes before it reached the port, I put the kite stake in a icy sandy snow pack or the soil next to the road and landed the kite on the side of the road. Then I positioned myself along the lines on the side of the road to guard them so that no one would trip on them - however there were no pedestrians getting on or off. Because it was soon getting dark when leaving for the session, I thought that I was in a hurry and therefore didn't spend time looking for end caps to see if they could be fitted to protect the kite from the abrasive asphalt. Instead I used the crude method of putting a temporary sacrificial layer of duct tape on them. If there would be more sessions here I should protect the whole leading edge, including the LE caps of the vertical spars. A positive thing was that it turned out that I had not been in a hurry at all - not so surprisingly the ferry port was equipped with street lights.
  4. Full day dedicated to learning our way around short line (30') quad line flying - focus on tuning, basic "holding patterns" to maintain flight with minimal effort, 360s, up and over, catch and throw, variable and no wind conditions. Light / variable wind flying in urban environments IS possible without a great deal of effort after you've got a handle on the fundamentals - then you can fly anywhere, even your front yard or in a local courtyard - just think how much gas this will save you! We only have space for FOUR students this time around, this is a one day semi-informal gathering at Overlook Park in Portland, OR... Registration is $100 per person, discounted to $75 for KiteLife subscribers. Location - https://goo.gl/maps/NH7rr46qrDw Video from the same location... Students should come equipped with 30 foot lines - 50# Skybond is preferred, but 90#/100# or LPG is acceptable... You'll also do best with a STD 1.5 size Revolution kite equipped with 2 wrap, black race or diamond rods, it could also be useful to have mid-vent but it's very rarely needed. These are TWO different workshops on different Saturdays, you are welcome to attend either one or both. Registered for the 9th (finished): Dylan N. Cardin N. Khanh N. Registered for the 16th (CLASS IS FULL): Dylan N. Cardin N. @flexifoil21 (Russ) @crazy5 (Jeff)
