Fighter kite disinterest?

The fastest smallest kite 7 inches across going probably 40 mph stopping on a dime spinning and acting like a crazy ufo is something every one should partake in. Sure it takes a bit of skill development to get line tension controlled but then it's sooo much fun. Make your own for free.  Standard fighter kites like from India and Asia are nothing but fun and engaging battles with a new friend.

Location matters for that.

If you are in a location where the cheap fighter kites are flown, go for it. People flying inexpensive (nearly free) kites with the expectations that they will be cut, that's understandable and part of the culture.

If you are in a location where more expensive gear is used, don't even think about bringing it to the site. Cutting line can do thousands of dollars of damage in seconds. Expect to be detained by people on the field, have banking information shared (demanded, really) before being allowed to leave, and possibly even police called to remove you, or to press charges and document the damage.

Know which location and group you are in.

Get what your point is. A time and place for everything. I don't actually compete to cut an opponents kite down usually. Glass impregnated string is quite dangerous. I fly solo so it's no imposition on other flyers as I usually fly on a very short line 20 yards. It's great fun with the miniature fighters as they are much faster and reactive. Around here the big fighter kite festival is in January. Real hard core fighters. Trees full of destroyed kites. Awsome fun.

Yeah, around january our culture program holds a big kite festival, I made some invisible fighters and caused some mass damage to other fighters, they provided us with glass thread which was great but I need to order better quality from India. What winds do you fly 7 inch kites in.

It is pretty dangerous to fly a fighter with other expensive kites in the area but, I went to walmart and bought some drop line which isn't the best but it gets the job done for kite line, I flew my fighters at the big kite festival that is hosted by ABC every year in Austin.

Fighters can also achieve breathtaking heights, During the kite festival (which is a plane free zone) atleast the one hosted by my cultural program, we tied like 9 spools of thread together and sent a kite ultra high and managed to bring it down without it breaking, fun times.

The  tiny kites need a little bit more wind. 10 mph is enough. Super fast and spinny at 20+.  I like flying them on shot lines usually but they can go up as high as you have string. Have a clear plastic fighter too. It's funny because you can't see it high up and people think you are fake flying nothing. Well I kind of act like I might be doing that sometimes anyway. What?

That's fine with non-cutting line.

This year at Zilker I know three people were caught with cutting line and given a police escort out of the park. One of them, a kid and his non-English-speaking mother, brought their manja line fighter into the kids competition and pro flying area. He cut at least one kid's kite and a quad's line before he was forced to bring down the kite. The mom needed a phone call to her husband to help her understand, and they didn't leave the area until payment for damage was worked out. They were a few steps away from shifting to about $150 in damage to easily hitting a thousand in damage.

Again, there is a time and place where cutting line is acceptable. The Zilker Park Kite Festival is NOT one of those.

Cutting line and fighter kites at events specific to them is fine if every scrap is cleaned up. Otherwise it is vandalism and litter, neither reflect well on the community.

Well written.  Couldn't agree more. That good spectra line sure is expensive. I use dyna ? Something because it's way cheap and not too stretchy for my dual line stunters. I use lightest weight linen or regular monofilament fighter line from India. A friend from there brought me back a large spool that will last a few life times. Have seen the glass impregnated line at the Indian kite festivals. Wow do they always leave the park looking like a trash dump site. Totally disrespectful and no f ing excuse for that. Let them trash their own place.

Yes to a point....I’ve always liked to call them dancing kites....;) I would fly two off of one line....hence the dance.

These daze I’m more partial to “glider” kites....both indoor and outdoors. (I am a drummer by profession and in each stick bag resides an iFlite.....)

But then again I’m much more of a low wind kind of flyer to begin with. If there is more wind and I’m still in single line mode I’ll bring out some old “cubes” and fly two or three off one line......or I’ll pull out the prism eo6 or an eo atom. I also have another pair of the atom kite to fly two off one line.

Friend made me an iflight. They are a hoot. Like your idea of multiple kites on single lines. Love attaching a short line miniature fighter on a stable kite. Have not had any fun yet with gliders. Nephew made one out of styrofoam. I too enjoy light to no wind fun. Flew dual line in gyms a few times and is challenging but fun. Being a drummer you have really quick reflexes so fighters suit you well. Keep the beat interesting!

Wow I don't know internet etiquette so dropped in here or somewhere, over there, you get it. I get kind of sad in the scorching summer months when FLYING is on my mind but not feasible. Will venture out before a thunderstorm at my best friend of 43 years request to GET SMART. I'm that old agent 99
