Multiple Kite Pairs or Teams

Another question is.... Are you going to be able to make it to Brookings this year Tony? If so, maybe the 3 of us could fly together. Basic follow the leader, nothing real hard unless we 3 click. :P Anything is possible. Specially if Gary has 6 of each. The 8.5 and the 7.0??????? Theres a thought. ;)

Sorry Gary :w00t:

Hi Dean/ Tony

Actually I do have a few kites in my bag but putting that aside I think it would be way cool if we put together a string of pairs figures in a specific order that anyone flying two or more kites could practice so that during fun flys and festivals those that practiced this basic routeen could line up on a field (regardless of kite make and model) and fly together. Kinda like John's mega rev flys. We could specify that everyone used 120' lines and go from their.

If enough people get interested then over time I'm sure groups of two, three, four, whatever will find each other at events and have a ball.

As far as Brookings goes, (if you have not been their before and already know) it would not be feasible during the event schedule to fly together, the field is quite small 150' x 600'. But early morning or afterwards is fine.

Crescent City, CA though is great. Go on Google earth and look at south beach in Crescent City. It's just 30 miles south of Brookings and I try to spend every other weekend there flying. Each fall the Rogue Valley Windchasers puts on a big fun fly and bar-b-que over the Labor Day holiday. If you can ever make it you would really enjoy it. Rod & Cindy Thrall bring their whole kit and decorate the sky and most of us in the club have a good assortment of single and dual like kites. We cover the beach and the long board guys are usually trying to catch a wave. The video I've posted of me flying three was shot by John Barresi at Crescent City and the one flying two was shot by a club member from Grants Pass the same day.

See ya next month.

I think that if two people flying multiple kites together, they'd be looking more at the team compfigs. That would give a person even more figs to practice.

I know that when I get to Brookings, I'm gonna have to fly at some point. I can't go and not fly. lol

One thing to consider is the fact that we're yakin bout dual to quad line. Any quad can be tuned to keep up with the others. Dual line MAY be a different story. Smaller kites are generally faster than the bigger, but given longer or heavier lines they don't generally turn or fly as well as a bigger sail. I may be wrong here, but I think bigger and smaller might be a difference maker when it comes to dual line. But you know, it's obviously a money maker. If IQuad can do it with quads then why can't we do it with duals.

Hi my name is Steve,

I have always been fascinated by those few in the USA & Canada, (Carl Bragiel, Ray Bethel, Troy Gunn, Joe Perrone & Gary MacEachern .... apologies if I have excluded anyone) who are able to fly multiple kites, so I did some research and thanks to Gustavo Di Si's very informative article on multiple kite flying: http://www.batoco.org/bibliotoco/files/MSKF.pdf

I decided to take the plunge and started to learn flying multiples in April 2007, by flying one kite at a time from one hand and alternating:

http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=aWCOEHLoSH0

In the month of June 2007, I took the plunge & flew 2 kites at once for the 1st. time: http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=5Ds2yCi5ZBE

Here are a few more videos since then, flying various kites till now.:

HQ Yukon's - June 2007: http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=pVDPgtIUz2I

NT Desire UL's - June 2007: http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=8rbvIm4wgno

NT Desire UL's - July 2007: http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=7Byih_QvuQE

NT Desire UL's - Sept 2007: http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=VOirWT2yuRc

Premier T&T's - Oct 2007: http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=Bjl0zHu9x94

HQ Breeze's - April 2008: http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=W9zS-dsNZRg

NT Desire UL's - JUne 2008: http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=-BQF8Kl0ydE

I hope this helps and/or inspires anyone looking at getting into flying multiple kites.

Steve

Hey, check out this guy:http: 3 kites . Dean/Gary, I won't be able to make Brookings, I pretty much stay local (especially with the price of gas). I've been practicing docking (refueling) and noticed excess line wear where the docking kite rubs the line, any ideas for a fix?

Man, my boss's name is Dave Green but he sure can't fly kites like this guy. I give em 3 kites up for a great job :) Now I'll really have to get the video going while I fly three. The competition is on, in fact I'm thinking of maybe starting a video competition where the general internet audience votes (I will not participate) and the winner will get a pair of Gulls.

As far as the re-fueling line thing goes, I don't have a good fix. I fly even length lines and add bridal leads to offset the line length when I want staggered line sets but as you know the leading edge of your kite still gets chafed in the process. When I used to fly and re-fuel with a friend of mine we would put strips of repair tape over our leading edges to take the wear.

Sorry I wont see you in Brookings but if things go as planned I will make it to a lot more events next year. Too many family and health issues this year to get around.

Keep flying and having fun, I sure am.

Gary

My Prism Ions simply suck for flying dual kites. I tried that yesterday. Took about 5 minutes to realize that even with enough wind to fly one, they suck trying to fly two. :blushing: A little too touchy and they don't seem to wanna turn tight enough. Think I'll give'em another whirl, but will undo the Radical nose line.

Hi guys,

I've been working away since the beginning of the year on 3 kites. Hoping to develop more precision next year and maybe start working on some routines.

. Thank you all for sharing your tips and videos with the rest of us. Merry Christmas and a happy new year to you all.

Regards,

Michael Mason.

Good job Michael,

Thanks for posting the video and keep up the good work. All it takes is a little practice and a lot of fun and you'll be showing off your new routine in no time. Can't wait to see it.

Question: Do you always use staggered line sets.... have you tried using equal length sets?

Is there a team out there with each pilot flying at least 2 kites? Just curious. Always wanted to do that just don't know anyone else that flies two kites at once.

Very nice! I have Gary Macecheran (sp) and Carl Braigel's emails if you want any tips from them. Looking good.

If you mean by angles, squares and triangles I don't see why not. I'm working on my squares and other angles now. I have a new video on youtube of me learning to fly my 2 cherry bombs. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2N2Ue1iXTns. I've been flying 2 kites for about 2 weeks and am 62 years old so I'm sure you younger fellows could do much better :D

That vid makes me want to buy another cherry bomb. lol Pretty sick my friend. Pretty sick indeed. :D

Sorry to hear about your arm Dean. I know with practice, you'll get that arm memory back to 100%. Just gotta shake off the cob webs. Well, that, and the muscle atrophy I suppose. :(

Hope to get out flyin with ya again soon. You could get some of that muscle memory back on my Widow. :(

Found another great spot up here in oregon city. way bigger and better than Hillendale.

Heres a google link m8. Might be worth a shot, since meldrum pk. is pretty low lying (hows the winds there anyhow? Every time I've been there, theres always been a baseball or soccer game going on. Gusty? or steady?). -- http://tiny.cc/lj61A --

Theres the main football field, 2 baseball fields (one in the school grounds and one in the church due South), and a pretty large running field (to the north of the football field). Room enough for at least 6-7 pilots (I think. max has been 2 -- Shanobi187 and myself).

Cheers m8. :D

Hey "mick"!!

Am I seeing...what I think I'm seeing...?!?! :confused!:

"IS THERE ONLY ONE GUY ON THE BEACH???"

Keep It Up!

Duane

Thanks Duane,

Very quite beach this time of year. In the course of the day about 20 or so walkers. Was joined shortly after shooting that clip by two of my kiting buddies one of whom is also learning multiple kiting - 2 so far - so maybe we might get multiple kiting as a pair yet, which is what this thread started out as.

Mick, I think you're doin' great! How long are your lines?

.

Thanks Tony. I've been flying on 120' lines last couple of years. I've made up a set of 150'. Only used them once and on a new set of Acrobatx kites. Must try them with the cherrybombs shortly I'm thinking of making a 200' set for practicing the razzle dazzle. I thought i've read somewhere that a good lot of kite teams use this length. Should I give it a go or would I be wasting my time?

Hey Mick...I've never heard (or saw) such a thing!!

How do you do it?!?!

Keep it up!

Duane

Hi Duane,

I presume your question is about the 'razzle dazzle'. Came across it in one of the kiteline magazines in the archives. As far

as I remember the pattern was created my Ron Reich for a 3 man team. Have a look at my avator. Basically its just a sequence of horizontal and

vertical 'stitches'. I've only come across one example of it on youtube.

Hi Mick,

I'm sorry for being sooo--ignorant (or stupid). I've only been in kiting for (seriously) about a year plus a little, or so...and I thought you were "somehow" flying all 3 of those kites by yourself!

...but then maybe that's a thought for the future or for people from a different planet with at least 3 hands!

Great videos!! And thanks---keep them coming, they inspire me to greater heights!! (Well, at least I practice more,,,heehee!)

Keep It Up!

Duane
