Just received this announcement from Ron:

Greetings to all of our kite friends.  I trust your new year is off and flying in a good way.  The rain here in Lincoln City today is blowing sideways, but that is ok because we will soon be flying indoors in the friendly confines of Taft High School.  That would be for the Lincoln City Indoor Kite Festival, March 23-26.  I am sending along a press release about the event and registration information for the competition.  I am pasting and attaching it as well.  Please let me know if there is more information you need and I hope to see some of you there.

There will be a brunch for all competition entrants on Saturday morning and there are lodging discounts available for competitors too.

Activities Available Throughout the Festival

Once you have built your kite at a workshop (or brought one if you are so inclined), you can test fly it in the Commons.

Free windless flying space in the small gym is available to practice what the experts taught you.  And they’ll teach you for free at the times indicated in the schedule.  You just need to get out on that floor and try.

Decorate your piece of the community arch (a huge bow-shaped line with hundreds of individual kites attached to it), which will be flown in the June Kite Festival at the D-River Wayside.  Materials available in the Commons.

Enjoy watching demonstrations of R/C model airplanes and other flying things.

About the Experts

Lee and Debbie Park, California, have combined artistic gymnastics, aerial dance, and hand-balancing maneuvers with indoor kite flying.  The result is not only expert indoor windless kite flying, but also an awe-inspiring aerial ballet reminiscent of shows like Cirque du Soleil.  Lee and Debbie were the closing act for the 2003 American Kitefliers Association convention  in Dayton, OH.  For a glimpse of what you will see, visit their website at www.indoorkiteflying.com.

Ronda Brewer, Lincoln City, OR can be entrusted with the safety and kite education of any kid in America.  She can show kids and adults alike a simple way to make a kite to fly at virtually no cost for materials.  Ronda, a member of the Lincoln City Kite Friendship Association, can be seen flying Rokkaku battles at outdoor festivals.

Deb Cooley, Lincoln City, OR, specializes in flying Deltas and Rokkakus in outdoor festivals.   A member of the Lincoln City Kite Friendship Association, Deb is exceptional at teaching anyone to build a simple kite and frequently performs a stuffed animal drop for kids at outdoor festivals.

Penny Lingenfelter, Port Orchard, Washington, is well known for the four-line Revolution kites she has been flying for more than a decade.  Six years ago she began flying kites indoors in no wind with no fans and placed 2nd in the AKA 2001 Grand National Competition for indoor flying.  But Penny can take her costumes, props, and kites outdoors too, and her colorful and exciting routines helped her to place 2nd in Outdoor Freestyle in 2001 as well.  Penny offers free kite lessons to children and adults of all ages.  She will demonstrate the art of flying indoors without wind and invites young and old alike to get on the floor with her for a free lesson in indoor flying.

Wayne Turner, of Tacoma, Washington, an avionics technician by trade, flies solo and with teams.  He was the 2001 individual kite flying champion for the American Kiteflyers Association. He has also placed 5th with the 6th Sense sport kite team in international competition in France.

Lam Hoac, of Toronto, is an internationally recognized kite flier and designer.  He won the honor of Grand National Champion at the 2003 American Kitefliers Association Championships.  Learn more about Lam at his website, www3.sympatico.ca/vipmaster.

Jerry Cannon, of Auburn, Washington flies outdoor, indoor, and on the Cutting Edge Sport Kite Team.  Cutting Edge won 3rd place at the World Sport Kite Championships in 2004 in France.  Jerry also gained a 3rd place at the recent 2004 indoor event at the AKA Championships.

Scott Davis, of Puyallup, Washington is passionate about indoor kite flying and is the director of the successful Windless Kite Festival in Long Beach, Washington.  Scott is a member of 6th Sense, a sport kite team that gained 5th place in the World Sport Kite Championships in 2002.

Bill Rogers, of Poulsbo, Washington is also a member of the 6th Sense sport kite team.  He will serve as the head judge for the Indoor Competition on Saturday.

Jerimy Colbert, of Lincoln City flies and creates kites.  He specializes in appliqué shapes and cody war kites.  He flies indoor and outdoor and is a patient teacher of the art.  You will probably get to see his son Zach fly as well.

Paul de Bakker, of The Netherlands is an accomplished kite flier and designer.  He has been the national champion five times in Holland.  Paul has flown and competed in six countries around the world.

John Barresi, of Portland, Oregon is the editor of Kitelife.com.  John also flies on a team, TKS Mid-Air, and has won many kite competitions since he was 15 years old.

It's getting closer!!!!

Paul DeBakker from Holland who I flew with on a South American Tour,

Wayne Turner, Jeff Reed, Jerry cannon, Scott Davis, Lam Hoc and the Parks! I can't wait!!!!

You know who I wish we could get is Tori.. (?) He was a dual line flyer who impresseed the dualies around here when he was in the area. He always had some exciting move to show the fliers. Maybe we'll see him in the future.

In any case, the line up is going to be a fantastic show. You should tell any friends or relatives in the state. It would be worth a drive to see this line up. And kids kitemaking and arch kites. I hope Ms. Cooley drags my butt into the commons area to add an arch!

I can't wait!!!

Yeah, but their not as Bezerkly as I remember Berkley being. :)

Hey, I'm thinking that Tsunami had to displace a lot of air. We will be seeing more wind from it eventually. I always think of the world as a terreriam (sp) and each action creates a reaction.

Steve is coming down this year and we'll have a day of sight seeing. If you see my old roomy before I do, tell Sharon I said hello.

And breakfast is back! Love those cooks! :D
