Guy Capra (Alomphega) Posted December 7, 2010 Report Posted December 7, 2010 Hello all, Me again, with basic questions again... I wonder if it is needed to settle a Rev (say a real Revolution brand) before its first fly ? What about the XP, the 1,5 SLE, the B-series and the B-series PRO ? Are all these models ready to fly or is it needed to do some stuff ? Thank you very much for your help, Guy Quote
windofchange Posted December 7, 2010 Report Posted December 7, 2010 Revolution sells their kites to dealers in three basic packages. 1) Kite Only package. This package includes the complete kite with one frame, bridle and kite sleeve/bag. 2) Kite with handles. This package includes the above, plus the training DVD, Manual and Rev Handles. 3) Complete package: This package includes the above plus a set of Laser Pro Gold flying lines. These three options are for every model of kite Revolution produces except the B-Series model. Lines are not available as a complete package with the B-Series model. Some dealers may opt to order lines in separately and then include those with the B-Series model. Dealers can order any of these packages and can also customize the above if necessary. Depending on how your local dealer orders from Revolution will be the deciding factor on what you will be purchasing from your dealer. Some dealers order the kites without linesets and then include their own lines to save a couple bucks. If the dealer includes a high quality line such as Shanti or LPG, there isn't much of an issue but some dealers have been known to include a low grade lineset that is cheaper and inferior to increase their profits - which could be a serious concern when you purchase your kite. Cheap / junk lines on a Rev will seriously effect how the kite performs. Revolution has no control over what is included with their kites once they leave the Revolution factory. Your best bet is to contact your dealer before ordering and ask what the dealer has included in your package such as what frame, manufacturer of lines (weight and length), and other accessories. This way you can be sure of what you are ordering. Here at A Wind Of Change, all of our complete packages include 100% authentic Revolution supplied linesets, frames and accessories. Hope that helps. Guy Capra (Alomphega) Posted December 8, 2010 Author Report Posted December 8, 2010 Thanks for your answer windofchange, but this not answers to my interrogation so I apologize for my poor English writing and if I wasn't clear enough with my question. Regarding your offer I thank you but alas I live in Europe, so I guess I can't buy my kites in USA without heavy customs taxes. I meant I would like to know if it is needed to set some stuff, ie : before the first flying is it useful to settle items such as tighten the elastic edges, put the washers so that nodes not pucker the ends, etc. ? Cordially, Guy Quote
John Barresi Posted December 8, 2010 Report Posted December 8, 2010 Guy, all Revs benefit from a slight (moderate) tightening of the bottom-most (tail tips) bunji cord after the first several hours of flying.... Easily done with two added knots. Other than that, nothing else should be needed. Quote
Baloo Posted December 8, 2010 Report Posted December 8, 2010 Besides what John said above, the only thing I can think of saying is that when you insert the verical rods put them so that the leading edgebungee knot is one side or the other, by this I mean both inside or outside the rods, oh and also make sure that as much as possible the bridles come off each end cap evenly. The knots on the leading edge bungees and the verical rod let you even wear out when it might start to happen. And checking the way the bridle comes off the end caps makes it all nice and even. Might be a bit pedantic of me, however if it is all laid out nice and even then I can only blame myself for the frequent mistakes I make in flying. Quote
Guy Capra (Alomphega) Posted December 9, 2010 Author Report Posted December 9, 2010 Guy, all Revs benefit from a slight (moderate) tightening of the bottom-most (tail tips) bunji cord after the first several hours of flying.... Baloo : yes, I also watch twice all this before flying Best, Guy Quote
Baloo Posted December 9, 2010 Report Posted December 9, 2010 The cords John is refering to are the elastic ones at the bottom of the vertical rods on the sail. The bits that attatch the end caps. Once a sail has been flown for a while it stretches out a bit. If you tighten the bottom cords slightly, just to take the wrinkles out of the sail you will find it flies better. If you fly in high winds, give the sail a little time to relax befory you tighten the cords, also flying in high winds regularly with a full sail will stretch it beyond adjusting and you will end up with a saggy sail.
