I had a great time at TISKC and was able to meet John and (beautiful)TK and Jeepster and (sexy)JYNX and my "group Fly" teacher MrDenny and a hundred other people...such wonderful people!! ====== Anyway, while I was away I never stopped flying and I flew so much that I almost wore out one of my quad line sets. So I tried this: I cleaned the line real good with water and a little soap to get all the dirt and sand off it and rinsed it off well and then I streached it out to dry. After it dried I wound it up again and drenched it in "DuPont Teflon Multi-Use Dry, Wax Lubricant". Then I streched it out again and using the soft fur on my cats belly I ran the cat back and forth the entire length of the line to rub the "Wax Lubricant" into the line.....just kidding I used a clean cloth!! heehee! Then I left it dry. The results were really good!! And I've been using it for awhile and it seem to be holding up real well! I wouldn't suggest it on new lines, (although it might be good--but I'm not going to test it out), but old lines that feel like sand paper when you fly...there's nothing to lose! Duane Quote

I've never treated lines myself, but old sets definitely get to a "nothing to lose" stage as you say... I'd be curious to hear other experiences as well! Quote
Guru4tru Posted January 27, 2011 Author Report Posted January 27, 2011 UPDATE ON WORN LINES: I was out flying today and the wind was really “whiffy” and kept changing directions, which is good practice too, but at one point the sun was to my back and coming in just over my right shoulder. I was looking at the kite and I noticed that I could see “clearly” the worn rough areas on my line. And then I realized that it wasn’t in the middle…it was about a little over 1/3 of the way to the kite. “”REVOLATION!!”” (I can hear Jeepster now…”Duane, You didn’t know that???” No Jeepster I didn’t know that….but I bet that you or Hedgewarden can give me the exact area that is worn, to the inch, if I’m holding the handles 6” apart and I have a 26” length from shoulder to palm!! Heehee!!) Anyway, I took the line from the handles and put them on the kite and put the kite lines on the handles. And...“ALMOST” like new...much, much smoother. I’ll be able to get another 6 month or year out of that line set! Keep It Up! Duane Quote

Duane My trusted source indicates that according to their careful observation, the area of maximum wear is centered approximately "about a little over 1/3 of the way to the kite". Yeah...I didn't know that the line didn't wear out in the center, until I saw it when the sun hit the line just right. Why do you keep this stuff a secret? Of course my line is probably worn closer to center then most peoples because my hands are still flying all over the place most of the time! heehee! Keep It Up! Duane Quote
